Late that evening, Edward walked back into Teddy's hospital room alone. Teddy was sitting up reading some paperwork, putting it down when he saw Edward walk in. Neither of them said anything, they just looked into each other's eyes.
Finally Teddy patted the bed next to him. Edward walked over and sat next to him. He reached out and wrapped Teddy in a proper hug, the first he had been able to give him since he was hurt. Edward whispered into Teddy's ear, "I love you so much."
"I know babe." Teddy looked into Edward's eye, "I was so scared that I was going to die without..."
Edward didn't wait for Teddy to finish talking before he leaned over and covered his lover's mouth with his own. He could feel Teddy melt into his chest as he kissed him. When he released Teddy's lips from his own, Edward leaned back and smiled. "I've been waiting since yesterday for that."
"I know what you mean. I want to come home."
"Well, Doctor Alexander says that he is going to try to get you out of here this weekend. That is if you can walk on your own."
"I want to go now. I want to sleep in bed with you. I don't like not having your arms around me when I sleep."
"I know what you mean. I think if you move over some, we can work this out."
"You mean?"
Edward smiled, "Yes babe. Doctor Alexander said I could sleep here with you. I don't think he meant in bed with you, but..."
Teddy slid over quickly as Edward turned out the light and then climbed into bed with him. He wrapped his arm around Teddy, who had placed his head on Edward's chest. They didn't say anything, just quietly held each other until they fell asleep.

- Part 10 * * *
-
By Saturday afternoon Teddy was able to walk on his own. He was still having pain in his back, but he wasn't about to complain about it. The fear of having to stay in the hospital any longer was outweighing his normal judgment. Just before lunchtime Tony arrived to tell him the Crown Prosecution Service had ruled Teddy's actions were completely in self-defense and no charges would be filed. Even though he wouldn't have admitted it, Teddy had been scared of the legal consequences of what happened that day.
Edward had been with Teddy almost constantly since he was out of the recovery room. He had just left to go downstairs and grab some fruit and Teddy was missing him already. He was amazed at the depth of Edward's love for him. The fact that he had been beside him during his hospital stay to the exclusion of all else showed Teddy just how much.
The past few days have also greatly helped Teddy's self-confidence in his relationship with Edward. No matter what he said, there was still a lingering doubt in the back of his mind that Edward didn't really love him. Now he knew that those doubts were baseless. He knew he was just projecting his fears from his past relationships onto Edward. It would be something he would have to fight until the past faded beyond thought.
Just after noon Dr. Anderson arrived with Edward greeting him at the door. He looked at Teddy's chart one more time and smiled. "Well, Mr. Jackson, it looks like everything is ready for you to go home today. I've signed all the discharge paperwork and an orderly will be here in a minute to take you down."
Teddy smiled wide, "Thank you, doctor. I can't tell you how ready I am to get out of here."
All three men laughed. Dr. Anderson walked closer to the bed, "Well, we do need to discuss one more thing before you go." He paused and looked at both of them, "I hate to have to bring this up, but I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from anal intercourse for at least a fortnight. We need to be careful that the repair to the bowel and also the internal stitches around your kidney aren't damaged."
The smile that was on Teddy's face had instantly disappeared and he mumbled under his breath. "Might as well just keep me in the damn hospital."
Edward extended his hand towards Dr. Anderson, "Thank you doctor. We'll follow your instructions, right babe?"
Teddy looked like a little boy who was told he had to go to bed early. "Yeah, right." He paused before he extended his own hand at the doctor, "Thank you."
"I'm just glad I was able to return you to the people who love you. I'll see you in my office next Thursday to remove the stitches. I know we've gone over all of the instructions and restrictions, so I won't do it again."
Edward put his arm around Teddy, "I'll make sure he behaves."
The drive to the flat was beautiful and the traffic was light for a Saturday afternoon. Driving though Hyde Park with the windows down allowed Teddy to take in the fresh air. Vladimir was driving with Edward and Teddy sitting in the back seat. Teddy's head was resting on Edward's chest, with Edward's right arm wrapped around Ted.
"Edward, are you going back to work Monday?"
"I honestly hadn't even thought about it. Why do you ask?"
Teddy looked into his eyes, "Because, I think you should."
"You don't want me to be home with you?" Edward almost sounded hurt.
"Of course I want you with me, don't ever doubt that. But John and Laura are going to be here until next weekend. Then we are still going to have to go to Florida, plus if you can... I'd like you home some during the holidays."
Edward smiled and kissed Teddy's head. "I think you're right as always. I would love to be home for the holidays, with you. I will see if I can get it all or at least part of it off. Speaking of taking time off, I need you to take a few days in September."
Teddy leaned his head to look into Edward's eyes, "What are you planning?"
"You'll see." He kissed the top of Teddy's head again. "When we get home, I want you to promise me that you are going to take it easy. Bess and the boys have been told not to jump on you and that you're not allowed to pick them up."
"Babe, are you gonna follow me around like I think you are?" Teddy smiled when he said it.
"Probably worse than you think. I'm not going to risk you having to go back to the hospital. I love you too much to risk your health." Edward then kissed Teddy's lips, just a gentle soft kiss which was as powerful as any Teddy had felt from him. "Babe, I forgot to tell you, the next door neighbors came by yesterday when I was there. They are moving to Dubiln and selling the flat. They said they wanted to let you know before they listed the property."
Teddy sat up and looked at Edward, "You're kidding me right? I didn't think they would ever sell."
"I take it you're interested?"
"Oh babe, do you realize what we could do if we bought that flat?" Teddy didn't want for a response from Edward, "We could connect the two flats and about double our space. We could have a master suite with a balcony. I'd really like to remodel the kitchen at the same time. I want some professional grade appliances..."
Edward kissed Teddy in order to stop his ramble. "Babe, I guess we should go and see them when we get home?"
"Yeah, what do you think though?"
"I think if this is something you've wanted to do, then we should do it. How much do you think they're going to want for it?"
And there it is...' Teddy thought to himself. How in the hell do I..." He took a deep breath, "I'm guessing around... eight million pounds."
"Fuck me..." Edward had a look of utter disbelief. He knew the flat was worth a lot, but he had no clue it was that much.
Teddy smiled slyly, "Sorry soldier boy, doctor said we can't do that." He then kissed Edward, who was at least smiling at the joke. "Babe, we've skirted this subject since we met. I guess we need to clear this up right now. Would you believe me if I told you it's about fourteen billion pounds not including my portion of the company."
"Bloody hell... Well, I'm not going to run away from you. It's too late for that bud, you're stuck with me." Edward smiled and thought about just how much money that was. "So babe, can I buy Veyron?" He tried to keep his face looking serious but too quickly that mischievous grin appeared.
"Edward, I know you're joking, but..." Teddy looked out the window and then back into his lover's green eyes. "You can spend all of it and I wouldn't care. It doesn't mean anything to me. The only things that matter to me anymore are you and Elizabeth."
"Babe, the way you have opened your heart to me and my daughter is unbelievable. You've taught me that I don't have to fear people with money ever again. Thank you for telling me. So you know, it doesn't change anything I feel for you."
Teddy's homecoming was a remarkably low key affair. He was met at the door by Elizabeth, Dylan and Matthew, who were all excited to see him. Teddy knelt down to hug and kiss each of them, as much as he wanted to pick them up and love on them he knew that was out of the question for now.
Walking into the living room Teddy was greeted by the rest of his family and friends. Everyone was there and it immediately picked his mood up, giving him a true feeling of love. All of the adults were acting worse than the children had with everyone wanting to talk at the same time. After the din of noise stopped, Teddy sat on one of the couches in the middle of the room. Edward sat next to him, with the kids taking up the rest of the space on the sofa.
"Ted dear, would you like anything to drink?" Edward's mother was standing near the kitchen.
"Yes, Rose, that would be great. Water please."
When Rose left the room, William looked at his brother sitting next to Ted. As he was watching he noticed that Edward moved his hand and grasped ahold of Ted's. There was an instant reaction in Ted's posture as he relaxed and a smile came to his face. Edward had the same smile on his face. William still felt confused, but he was trying to understand.
John had been watching William since Teddy got home. While his statements of acceptance seemed sincere, John's training made him feel that he wasn't as sure as he said he was. Watching him intently monitoring his brother and Teddy had shown John that William wasn't a risk, he was just confused. He would have to find a way to get William alone and talk to him.
While everyone was in the living room talking the doorbell rang and Edward excused himself to get it. A few minutes later he returned with Jake, Mark and Dustin.
Teddy was watching Devon when Dustin walked into the room and was happy to see that Devon's face changed. He started to smile and he was following Dustin with his eyes. As soon as Dustin noticed Devon, he made a straight line to the man to introduce himself.
"You must be Devon, I'm Dustin." The warm smile on his face captivated Devon as he extended his hand.
Devon stood up and shook Dustin's hand, "Devon Baker. It's nice to meet you." He looked over to his boss who was grinning wide.
Teddy watched as the two young men walked to the corner of the room and were quickly involved in a deep conversation. From the looks on their faces Teddy's hopes of a connection may just come true.
Sitting down on a love seat next to each other, Devon looked over at Dustin. "How long have you known Ted?"
"Almost four years now. When I got out of the army, I went to work at a restaurant that he came to a bunch. He would always sit in my section and we became friends. I had no clue who he was of course, but he took an interest in me. It wasn't sexual just as a friend. He was so easy to talk to." Dustin took a sip of the drink he was holding, "About eight months after we met he asked me if I wanted a job with his company. I've been flying for him ever since. I give him a hard time about it, but I wouldn't trade working for him for anything."
"Wow, I didn't realize you were in the army."
"Yeah, went in right out of high school. I loved it, but after a couple years I didn't feel like living a lie anymore. I wanted to be open about who I was, and that wasn't something I was able to do in the army. Maybe someday that will change for others, but I couldn't do it anymore. When my enlistment was up I got out."
"I can't imagine what that would be like. We did away with the ban on homosexuals in 1999 and haven't looked back."
"So, how did you get involved with the dynamic duo?"
Devon laughed, "I'm not sure I want to know which is Batman and which is Robin."
The comment made them both laugh. The sound of Devon's laugh made Dustin smile, "I can answer that, but I won't."
"I've known Cap... Edward since I came to the regiment from riding school in Windsor. He took me under his wing, so to speak. I was his orderly before he was leaving the Mounted Regiment and headed to the armoured side. When he came back from Afghanistan he arranged it so I was his orderly again."
"He obviously thought highly of you."
"I guess you're right, I've never really thought about it. He is a great leader and we would all follow him anywhere. He's been a role model for me since I met him. I've tried to emulate him in the way I handle myself and treat others." Devon looked over at Edward and Teddy across the room before he continued, "They have given me more than I could ever repay them for. They've given me a family again and I can't even tell you what Teddy has done for me in the way of hiring me and giving me a place to live."
Dustin nodded at the statement, "I think I do know. It sounds like the same thing he has done for me. Let me ask you something. Has he told you what you're getting paid yet?"
Devon thought for a moment, "Come to think of it, no. We have never discussed money. I figured it would be close to what I was getting in the army, but less since I was living here and they were paying for everything."
"Just hang on to your shorts when you find out, if I know him." Dustin laughed and thought back to when Teddy hired him. He thought he would make about the same as he did working at the restaurant. He was more than a little surprised when he found out just how much he was going to be making.
Devon couldn't get over how comfortable he felt with Dustin. It didn't hurt how attractive the man was. Normally Devon was shy and awkward around but he was feeling calm and confident talking with Dustin. "So Dustin, are you dating anyone?"
"No." Dustin took another drink, "What about you?"
"No. I've never had a serious relationship." Devon wished he had something stronger to drink, "I haven't had a non-serious relationship either."
Dustin knew that if they were going to explore anything between the two of them it was going to be up to him. "Devon, I really enjoying talking with you and I would like to know if you would like to go out sometime."
Devon's face lit up, "I would really enjoy that."
After a couple hours of talking with everyone, Teddy could feel himself getting tired. Edward noticed it too, and leaned over to speak quietly into Ted's ear. "Babe, you wanna take a nap?"
Teddy couldn't seem to get enough energy to speak, he just nodded his head. As he tried to stand up he almost fell back onto the couch. It was noticed by everyone, but he immediately felt himself being lifted off his feet and into the arms of the man he loved. Edward looked around the room, "Sorry, folks. Teddy needs to go and take a nap. Please make yourselves at home."
Edward didn't wait for any answers before he carried Teddy from the room. Walking into their bedroom, he used his foot to close the door. When he gently placed Teddy in the middle of the bed, he was rewarded by a passionate kiss from him.
When he was able to break the kiss, Edward removed Teddy's shoes and then his own. He then moved onto the bed until he was next to Teddy. He was on his side as close to Ted as he could get and his left hand was rubbing Teddy's chest. "Babe, go to sleep. I'm not going to leave you."
Teddy rolled onto his right side and was rewarded by Edward spooning up behind him. "Edward, I love you so much."
"I love you too." Edward very quickly heard the change in Teddy's breathing that signaled he was asleep. After having slept in the hospital with his boyfriend the past few days Edward was just as exhausted and was asleep right behind Teddy.
William had walked out onto the balcony just after Edward and Teddy had gone to their room. He was admiring the view of Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial. He kept going over it in his head, `I can't believe it. All these years and I never knew it.' He didn't realize that John had walked up behind him.
"Hey William." John leaned against the railing.
"Oh... Hi John, right?"
"Yeah," John continued his look out into the park, "are you doing ok?"
"I'm good... just enjoying the view."
John could hear it in his voice. "William, I don't know about you, but if I found out that my brother was gay after knowing him for all these years I would have questions and doubts."
William looked into this man's eyes and tried to see judgment or anger. There was neither, all he could see was caring. "I don't..." There was a long pause before he finally found the strength to continue, "I'm just so damn confused. I thought I knew Edward, I mean really knew him. But, I didn't see this coming at all. I don't understand how he can be gay. He never..."
"Would it help you to know that Edward didn't even realize it until he met Ted?"
"Really?"
"Yeah, if you would have asked him before he met Teddy, I think he would have told you there was no way he would think about loving another guy. All of that changed when he met Ted and you know this isn't a sex thing with them either right? There is more to their relationship than that."
William stood there for a moment, "I can see that. Earlier when they were on the couch together, they just looked happy being with each other." He paused, "I never saw Edward like this with Mary. It's like he is a completely different person now."
"And for his part, I've never seen Teddy this happy either. You should talk to them, ask them what you want to know, tell them how you feel. It will probably make you feel better."
"I will John, thanks. Just talking to you has made me feel better. I guess it just makes me asks questions I never thought about before."
Teddy woke up late in the afternoon, with Edward still right behind him. He could hear people in the rest of the flat, but he just wanted to be here with Edward forever. He felt a sudden pain in his back, it made him stiffen and try to move his hand around to rub the area.
Edward felt Teddy stiffen, and it woke him immediately. "Babe, are you ok?"
"Just a pain... God it's bad..." Teddy's voice was full of pain, and Edward moved his hand to the area around the wound and started to rub the muscles. There was an immediate relief of most of the pain and Teddy let out a sigh.
"There, just relax babe. " Edward leaned over and kissed Teddy's neck. He continued to massage the muscles in Teddy's lower back. "Do you want some pain meds?"
"Not really, I don't like to take anything." He thought about it a little before he changed his mind. "Edward, maybe I will take one. Just don't let me take too many."
"Babe, I'll go get one for you. Don't worry, I'm not going to let you get hooked on them."
Edward jumped from the bed and headed into the bathroom. He quickly returned with a small pill in his hand and grabbed a bottle of water off the nightstand. Teddy took the pill and smiled up at the large man towering over him.
"I love you so much. Damn, have I told you lately how fucking sexy you are?" Teddy was serious as he could be when he said it.
"Babe, I love you too." Edward smiled that damn grin of his, "You do know I think you're the sexy one in this relationship, right?"
Teddy could feel himself blush for a change. "I'm getting you an appointment with an eye doctor." He laughed, "Thank you though."
After Teddy took the pill and handed back the water bottle, Edward climbed back into bed, wrapping Teddy in a hug. Edward kissed Teddy gently on the lips. What started as a gentle turned into a powerful full on soul merging kiss. Teddy was sucking on Edward's tongue and Edward could feel himself getting hard. He had to push himself away from Teddy before he lost control.
He got up from the bed and looked down at Teddy, "Should we go out there and see everyone?" Edward extended his hand to help Teddy up from the bed. "Come on, the sooner we get this over with the sooner we can get back to bed."
Devon and Dustin worked together to prepare a huge dinner that night and everyone gathered around the table to eat. Dylan and Matthew were sitting next to Ted and Edward, while Elizabeth had sat between Dustin and Devon. She was in heaven with both of them talking with her non-stop. Matthew was talking with Edward throughout the entire meal, while Dylan was being quieter than usual and it started to concern Teddy.
"Hey Kiddo, what's wrong with you?"
"I was just scared you were going to die. I am still thinking about it."
"Dylan, I'm going to be fine. You don't need to worry about me."
"Do you think I could stay with you longer?"
"I don't know. I'll talk to your mom and dad about it, ok?"
Dylan didn't say anything, he just reached out and placed his little hand on Teddy's arm.
Edward leaned over and whispered into Teddy's ear, "What's that about?"
"I'm not sure." Teddy looked around the table and noticed that Devon and Dustin were smiling at each other during the entire meal.
After dinner, with most of the guests gone and the children in bed, the adults were sitting in the living room. Devon had gone out to a local pub he knew with Jake, Mark and Dustin. Teddy and Edward were sitting on one couch with John and Laura on another.
Teddy was leaning against Edward's chest, feeling safe in his large arms. "Guys, have you noticed the change in Dylan?"
Laura looked at John and then at Teddy, "I have. He won't talk to me about it. Has he said anything to you?"
"Well, he told me it was because he was scared I was going to die. Then he asked if he could stay with me longer. I'm not sure what that is about?"
"I know he has always felt close to you and I think you being hurt has affected him more than we know. What did you tell him about him staying?"
"I told him that we'd have to talk about it with you. I didn't want him to feel rejected if I just told him no."
John was nodding, "You did the right thing. It would have hurt him if you had just said no. It's something we'll have to think about. I'm not sure how Matthew would react if Dylan got to stay and he didn't."
"I wouldn't want to split them up. If one stayed the other would have to. But, is this something we should even be talking about. I'm sure you don't want to be away from them."
Laura smiled, "Sweetie, it's not like we'll be jumping for joy. If they want to stay though, it might be good for them and us." She smiled, "Is it something you both would like?"
Teddy and Edward smiled at each other and Edward answered for them both. "I love them like they're my own and I know Teddy does also. We'd love for them to stay and we can bring them home in a couple weeks when we go to Florida."
John looked at Laura and then turned back to the guys. "Well, that sounds great. This also gives us the perfect opportunity to talk to you both about something else we've been thinking about." He smiled at Laura again and she nodded at him. "Laura and I have given this a lot of thought and we'd like you both to be the boys' guardians if anything should happen to us."
"I don't even want to think about that John." Teddy did not like to talk about these things. It was impossible for him to think about a life without John and Laura in it.
"Sweetie, we know how you are. But, this is something we need to talk about." Laura reached over and held her husband's hand. "There's no one in the world that would take better care of them and show them the love they need than you both. Please."
Teddy looked into Edward's eyes and saw the look he was hoping for. Edward didn't have to ask he just spoke. "John... Laura... Teddy and I would be honored. We both love them completely. I can promise you they will get all the love and support they need to thrive. They will never know a day without that love and we would raise them as our own."
John smiled wide, "You've made us very happy. Let me tell you, we've been struggling with this. We had always had Teddy named as the guardian, but then when you two got together we weren't sure if you would be willing to take on the boys."
Laura was smiling as wide as John. "Now that we've got that out of the way, when are you two going to tie the knot?"
Teddy about choked on the drink he had just taken. "Jesus La, you trying to kill me? Don't you think it's a little early for that?"
"I was just curious. We will tell the boys in the morning they can stay with you for a couple weeks. If you're sure you can handle it while you're hurt?"
"I couldn't think of a better medicine." Teddy smiled at the thought of having the twins stay for a few weeks.
Laura shifted in her seat, "I can't get over how close they have gotten to Elizabeth since they've been here. She really is a remarkable child Edward."
"Thank you Laura. She has grown to love them both and I think it's great that they have become so close. I thought it would be more difficult for them to get along at that age, but it's just like they have always known each other."
"Edward, are you ready to go back to work?" John asked as he took a sip from his drink.
"Not really, it has been nice to be off. I'm not looking forward to having to get up so early in the morning." He laughed, "I've gotten lazy. I am going to ride the watering order on Monday morning. So, I have to go in even earlier than usual."
Teddy made a mental note of the exercise ride for Monday morning. He would have to talk to Devon about what he wanted to do. As he thought about it he had the uncontrollable urge to yawn. He covered his mouth as quickly as he could, but he knew it was a sign that he was more tired than he realized.
"Babe, are you ready for bed?" Edward kissed the top of Teddy's head, which caused a huge smile.
"I think we better. I'm getting more tired by the minute." He stood up and hugged John and Laura before he turned to walk towards the bedroom.
Edward stopped as Teddy started to walk away, "I'll be there in a minute, I want to talk to John and Laura about something."
Teddy walked into the bathroom and washed his face in the sink before he brushed his teeth. He knew what he wanted to do tonight, but he was sure he wouldn't be able to talk Edward into it. He decided that he would just lie on the bed and wait to talk to him when he came in. Before he could even fight it, he was asleep.
"I'm glad you're going to let the boys stay with us, but I wanted to talk to you about something I was planning." Edward paused, "Please don't say anything to Teddy. I've arranged for us to go to a resort in Ibiza for a few days at his birthday. I was planning on having Elizabeth stay here with Devon, but I wanted you to know what was going on. I wouldn't want to leave the boys here with Devon unless you knew about it."
John smiled at the concern Edward was showing, "Edward, it's ok. We've gotten to know Devon and we trust him. As long as he won't mind, we're cool with it."
"Thanks John. I want to do something special for him and this was what I came up with for his birthday. Then when we come back, I've got something even more special planned. I wish you guys were going to be here."
Teddy was fast asleep when he felt something on this arm. He fought the urge to smack at whatever was touching him but instead he opened his eyes.
Dylan's blue eyes were looking back at him. "Uncle Teddy, can I sleep with you?"
"Sure, kiddo." Teddy thought quickly to make sure he was wearing something and flipped the sheet back. Dylan crawled in next to him and turned so he was spooned up to Teddy.
Edward kissed the back of Teddy's neck, "He ok?"
Teddy just shrugged and wrapped his arm around Dylan. Thankfully all three were back to sleep very shortly.
When Teddy woke up again he realized there were more bodies in the bed then he remembered from earlier. Matthew was next to Dylan and Elizabeth was next to Edward. They were all asleep and Teddy was glad they got the biggest bed they could find.
"This isn't going to be a habit is it?" Edward whispered it into Teddy's ear.
"I hope not. I should have known when one came in here the others would soon follow."
There was a quiet knock at the door and when it opened John came in. Teddy turned his head towards John, "There is no room in the inn."
"I was wondering where they were." John walked over to Teddy's side of the bed, "I think you're wrong though, I could squeeze in between the two of you."
Edward lifted his head up and smiled at John, "Dude, we haven't... you know... since Teddy was hurt and we can't have it for two weeks. Are you sure you want to spoon up in front of me?"
Teddy had to control his laughter, "Wow, what a great idea. I could go sleep with La."
"Oh... ha... ha... ha..." John was smiling at the joke even as he was trying not to laughing. He leaned over and kissed each of his sons. "Come on, time to get up boys."
Matthew was the first to move, followed by Dylan. Elizabeth heard the boys leaving and she leaned over and kissed Edward and then climbed over him to kiss Teddy before she followed the boys out of the room.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed their interest in the story. Sorry for the delay in getting this chapter out. I'm hoping to have another one out this weekend.
