Edward stood up and reached his hand out for Teddy. He pulled him carefully to his feet and kissed him tenderly. "I love you babe."
"I love you too. Now let's get washed up."
The two lovers washed each other tenderly in the bathroom before they emerged and put boxer briefs on. Once they were dressed Edward unlocked the bedroom door, while Teddy climbed into bed. Edward moved to the bed and spooned up behind Teddy. They were both asleep quickly, but not before each man said his own quiet prayer thanking God for the other.

Teddy was awakened by the feeling of someone pulling his hand. His eyes were heavy as he tried to open them. When finally able to see, he was looking into Elizabeth's green eyes. He suddenly was very thankful they decided to put their underwear back on when they unlocked the door. Elizabeth looked scared and when she spoke her voice was barely a whisper.
"Mr. Ted, I had a bad dream. Can I sleep with you and daddy?"
"Of course, sweetie." He pulled back the sheet and she climbed into the bed. She rolled onto her side and snuggled up with her back towards Teddy's chest. Ted wrapped his arm around her and then realized Edward was awake also.
When Bess settled down, Edward placed his hand on her tummy and kissed Teddy on the back of the neck. Edward leaned forward and whispered into Teddy's ear, "How about that? I told you..."
All Ted could do was smile. It made him feel good that she had come and woken him and not Edward. Within a very short time all three were sound asleep again.
Later that morning Ted woke to Elizabeth trying to slip out of bed. "You ok Bess?"
"Yes, sir. I was just going to go in my room and play. Thank you, I was really scared last night."
"No problem, sweetie. Are you hungry?"
"Yes, sir. But I can wait until you and daddy get up."
Edward spoke without lifting his head from its spot on Ted's pillow. "Daddy is awake and hungry."
Teddy laughed. "Ok, I'm getting up to start breakfast. Bess, I'll call you when it's ready if you want to go play."
"Yes, sir." She practically ran towards her room.
Edward kissed Teddy's neck, "Babe, I know I say this too much but last night was incredible."
Ted felt himself blush, "Yes it certainly was. No wonder you're hungry this morning."
Edward extracted his right arm and then raised himself up resting on his elbow. From this position he could lean over and kiss Teddy's cheek. "You wanna take a quick shower before breakfast?"
Teddy didn't verbally answer. He just jumped from the bed and headed for the shower, with Edward right on his heels. By the time they made it to the shower, they were naked and kissing while they waited for the water to heat up.
The shower was short but fun for both Teddy and Edward. They washed each other including a large amount of time spent kissing. Both wanted to take it further, but they also knew that Bess was in the other room and was hungry. Even though the counter had two sinks, there was some hip bumping and laughter as they shaved and brushed their teeth.
While they were getting dressed Teddy stopped and looked over at Edward. "So, now that we're here in London, when do you think you're going to go back to work?"
"I hadn't thought much about it babe. I wasn't sure what you wanted to do yet. I can still take the three weeks off, or more. Did you want to go somewhere or do something?"
"No, I was just thinking that maybe you should save your leave. I'm going to need to go to Florida and close my house up, and organize the things I want to ship here. With the hearing coming up, I figure we won't be able to leave until it's over."
"Good idea. How about I go back on Monday, I'll call my Squadron Commander and tell him what I'm planning. Once things settle down, I'll take a few more weeks and we can go to Florida. Middle of October until mid November is going to be out for me. The state opening of Parliament is November eighteenth, so we're going to be busy with practices leading up to it."
"Sounds like a plan. I will make sure I clear the date, so I know I will be here for the opening. Gotta make sure I have a good place to watch from. Does Bess have a passport?"
"Yeah, she sure does."
"Great, why don't we plan on us all going to Florida when we go? While we're there we can take her to Disney or Sea World. Do you think she'd like it?"
"Are you kidding me? Of course she'd love it, she's always wanted to go and so has her daddy." His boyish grin was now huge on his face.
"Ut oh, not sure which one I'll have to worry about more... the little kid or the big kid. I've always wanted to take the twins, but never was able to arrange it." Teddy suddenly looked sad as Edward wrapped him in his arms.
"Babe, I have an idea. Do you think Laura and John would let the boys go with us?"
Teddy shouldn't have been surprised, but he was, Edward always found some way to make him love him even more. "I think that's a great idea, and I'm sure they would let us take them. Why don't we call them later and talk about it?" Teddy kissed Edward again, "Come on... Let's go get breakfast started."
Making breakfast that morning was a dream for Teddy. Edward was "helping" him cook, but in reality it was more an excuse for him to touch and mess with Teddy. Even with his objections and complaining, Teddy wouldn't have given it up for anything.
When it was finally time to eat, Elizabeth wanted to sit next to Ted. Edward smiled at the way his daughter was taking to the man who had become so important in his life. Edward watched them interacting during breakfast, and how Teddy was making sure Bess enjoyed the morning. He was reminded of Teddy when he was with Dylan and Matthew. It was right then that Edward made another important decision about the future path of his life. He knew his future was with Ted, but now he knew how he wanted that future to start.
After breakfast the guys were sitting on a couch in the living room with each other. Edward was reading the newspaper while Teddy was lying with his head in Edward's lap reading a magazine. Both men were enjoying their quiet time alone. Bess said she was too busy playing to want to come in the living room when she was finished eating.
The morning's calm was interrupted by Edward's cell phone, the caller ID showing it was Tony. "Hello, Tony. How are you this morning?"
"I'm good Edward. Listen, I just got a call from DS Morgan. Mary is awake, she thought you might want to know. The hospital isn't sure when they are going to release her."
"Thanks, Tony. I'd don't know what I'd say to her right now."
"No worries, I just wanted to let you know."
"Thanks, mate. We need to get together soon."
"Sounds great, I'll call you later."
When Edward hung up the phone Teddy looked up at him. "Mary awake?"
"Yeah, they just called Tony about it."
"You gonna go talk to her?"
"No, I really don't think I have anything to say to her. I'm afraid that my anger will get the best of me. I don't want to take the chance of messing the case up."
"Well, if you change your mind..."
Edward smiled down at Teddy, "You want to meet her, don't you?"
"Yes, I'd like the chance to meet her. Besides I have a few things I'd like to say to her." Teddy had more than a few things he wanted to say, and he wasn't sure he didn't want to throttle that bitch on top of it. Like Edward, he knew that it would not help Bess even if it would make him feel good. "But if you don't want to see her right now, it can wait."
"I'm scared to ask..." Edward then leaned over and kissed Teddy and ran his hand through his hair.
"Probably a good idea that you don't."
It was then that Edward's phone rang again. He was surprised when he looked at the caller ID, "Hello, dad."
Teddy could feel Edward tense immediately. He sat up and looked at Edward.
"Hello, son. How have you been?"
"I'm good dad. I've been meaning to call you and mum. There's been so much going on."
"Anything you want to talk about?"
"There's a lot we need to talk about, but over the phone isn't the best. We have Bess now. It turns out Mary has been using. She overdosed a couple nights ago and is in hospital."
"Damn son..."
"It looks like she is also gonna be charged criminally. We've got a barrister who is working on getting us permanent custody. The most important thing... there's someone I want you and mum to meet."
"Edward, you keep saying we. I take it this person is..."
"Yeah dad, it's serious."
"Well, your mum and I can't wait to meet her. Listen I need to get back to work, but why don't you all come to dinner tonight? I'll call your mother in a little bit and let her know."
"Ah, ok dad. We'll see you then."
When he hung up the phone, Edward stood and turned back around to face Teddy. "So, do you want the bad news now or later?"
"Lay it on me."
"Dad wants us to come for dinner tonight."
Teddy just sat there, not knowing what to say. He took a deep breath, "Babe, are you ready for that? If you're not we can always come up with an excuse why I couldn't come."
"No... I want to tell them... I need to tell them. I'll call mum in a little while and make sure when they're eating."
Teddy stood and hugged Edward, "Babe, I love you."
"I love you too. It will not be a problem, trust me." Inside he knew his parents would not be a problem, at least he hoped not.
The rest of the morning went quickly while the guys played with Elizabeth in her room. After a small lunch they were off to Knightsbridge to pick up Devon and the stuff from Edward's room. As many times as Teddy had walked, jogged, and driven by the barracks he was excited as a child to get to go inside. At the same time he was more nervous than he could remember being when they got to the gate. He had always wanted to go behind the walls, but now he wasn't so keen on the idea. "Are you sure I'm not going to set off some alarm when we go in? Maybe I should just wait in the car?"
Edward laughed, "Babe, would you relax. Would I ever let anything happen to you with me around?" Edward got out and spoke to the sentries, who opened the gates and allowed the two vehicles inside.
Edward and Teddy got out of the Range Rover and were quickly met by Devon. Devon was in civilian clothes and was carrying a couple bags. After greeting Edward and Teddy, Devon loaded the bags into the back of the Range Rover.
Teddy walked around with Bess in tow. "Do you have anything else?"
"Yeah, I have a little more and that's it." Devon looked down like he was embarrassed. Teddy just didn't know what to say to him right then. He knew it was going to take a while to improve Devon's self esteem and self image.
Edward turned to Teddy, "I need to go talk to the Squadron Commander. Devon, will you take Teddy and Bess to see Thunder?"
"Yes, Captain." Devon led his charges towards the stables as Edward walked into the admin area.
As they entered the stalls, Devon stopped and spoke to an officer who was standing with several young Troopers. The man instantly knew Bess and spoke to her by kneeling to get down to her level. When he stood back up, Devon introduced Teddy to Captain Richard Goode, the Riding Master and a member of the Blues and Royals. Devon introduced Ted as "a close friend of Captain Smythe's."
"It's an honor to meet any friend of Edward's." The man's friendly smile made Ted relax. As he shook his hand he felt like it was in a vice.
"Thank you, the honor is all mine. Call me Ted."
"I'm Richard, please."
Teddy was sure he had seen the man before. "I've lived on and off in London for years and I know I've seen you riding the park before."
"Oh, do you live nearby?"
"Yes, I live over on Prince Consort Road."
"Wow, that's close. Do you ride?"
"Not in years. I miss it, but haven't had the opportunity in years."
"Well, did you know you can go with us on watering order rides?"
"No, I didn't know that was allowed." Ted was very interested. He had always dreamed of riding with the Household Cavalry, since he first saw them as a child. It wouldn't quite be his dream of riding down the Mall in full state kit escorting the Queen, but it was still riding a Cavalry Black with members of the regiment.
"Yeah, we can get you set up. You'll have to show that you can walk, cantor, and trot properly while controlling the horse. I'm sure you won't have any problem with that. Edward and I can bring you up to speed."
"That would be incredible." Teddy didn't realize it but he was smiling from ear to ear. Devon saw it and instantly knew that he would help him make sure it happened.
"I'll have Edward mention it to the adjutant, but I make the final decision, so I can guarantee if you pass the test you're good to go."
"Thank you very much. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."
"Well, Ted it was very nice meeting you. I better get back to work. I look forward to seeing you again when you come ride with us." He turned towards Devon, "I wish you luck Devon. Don't be a stranger." The man extended his hand towards Devon.
"Thank you, Captain Goode." Devon shook the man's hand and then moved off deeper into the row of stalls with Teddy and Bess.
As they finally stopped in front of a stall Teddy came face to face with an incredible black charger. "Whoa, he's beautiful."
Devon held out his hand and the horse came to him. He leaned down and picked Bess up, "You remember Thunder, don't you Bess?"
Thunder came over and nuzzled his nose into Bess's hand to take a sugar cube Devon had placed there. Bess giggled as Thunder nudged her face with his nose several times. It looked to Teddy as if Thunder had kissed her.
Ted was standing further away when Devon turned towards him, "Come on over, he doesn't usually bite." He said it with a little laugh, but Ted was still a little uncomfortable. As much as he loved them, he hadn't been near a horse in many years and this one seemed huge.
Teddy moved closer and extended his hand to rub Thunder. Thunder moved his head and took a good smell of Teddy's hand and then took a step towards him. He bumped Teddy with his nose and head, he kept doing it until Teddy started to rub him. "It's good to meet you too fella." After a little bit, Thunder rested the side of his head on Teddy chest as he was still being rubbed.
"Well, how about that? He doesn't usually take to strangers." The sound of surprise in Devon's voice was evident.
"What's this, you trying to steal my horse?" Edward had walked up without Ted seeing him. Thunder immediately went to him and was rewarded by Edward rubbing him. "Or are you trying to steal my boyfriend?" Thunder snorted as if he was answering Edward. After a few minutes, Edward reached down and picked Elizabeth up. "Come on Bess, you want to sit on Thunder?"
She smiled widely as Edward placed her onto Thunder's back. She sat very still and then pressed her chest onto his neck and back as she hugged him. Thunder stood very still almost as if he knew there was precious cargo on his back. Edward stood next to him and rubbed his neck the whole time.
Teddy leaned against the stall wall, "So how did your meeting go?"
Edward smiled, "It went great. I told you it would, there's nothing to worry about."
"I know you did. I shouldn't have doubted you." Ted paused while he smiled at Edward, "So, what did he say about you going back to work?"
"It's all set, I'm going to return to duty on Monday morning."
When the words left Edward's mouth, it was like he flipped a switch on Teddy's mood. "Ok..." Suddenly he didn't want Edward to go back to work.
Edward saw the look in Teddy's eyes and he pulled him into a hug. He kissed his cheek and then whispered into his ear, "It'll be ok babe. Don't forget, I love you."
Teddy gave Edward a quick kiss on the lips and smiled. "I know... it'll just... it'll be the longest we've been apart since we met."
"Aren't you tired of me yet?" The grin on his face made Teddy know he was playing. He reached over and picked Bess up off of Thunder's back and set her on the ground. "Some of the guys are going to help move my stuff into the lorry." He turned and looked at Teddy, "Do you want a tour?"
"Yeah, I'd like that."
Edward then turned towards Devon, "You want to get the rest of your stuff and bring it down?"
"Yes, Sir. I'll get it to the lorry and then I'll help with your stuff."
As they walked along Edward was pointing out things and introducing Ted to members of the Blues and Royals and the Life Guards that they encountered. Even though the rivalry existed between the two, Teddy was surprised at how well everyone got along.
Teddy turned towards Edward as they were walking up the stairs inside, "I met Captain Goode, he invited me to come along on watering orders."
"Really, I didn't know if you'd be interested in doing that?"
"Definitely, I may have to go to one of the riding schools around the park to brush up though."
"We can do that. It would be incredible to be able to ride together. You've got Devon and I to help you., so you'll do fine"
After the tour and introductions of Teddy to Edward's friends and colleagues was over, the last of Edward's and Devon's items had been loaded and the men began the short trip back to Albert Court. When they arrived, Ted arranged with the Porters to help get everything delivered upstairs.
About an hour later, everything was in the hallway and reception area and the task of deciding what went where began. Teddy had made room for Edward in the closet in the master bedroom. Edward hung all of this uniforms and dress clothes up. As he was hanging things up, Teddy convinced Edward they should buy a new bed and furniture when they went shopping.
Teddy and Edward checked on Devon a few times while he was sitting in his room. They were concerned for him. While they wanted to make sure he understood that his privacy was important to them, they also tried to impress on him the importance his presence meant for their family.
As Edward and Teddy walked back into their room, Edward's cell phone rang. "Hello, mum."
"Edward, your dad called and told me you're coming for dinner."
"Yeah, mum. We just finished moving my stuff out of Knightsbridge, and we're going to head out shortly to look for furniture."
"This must be some special woman for you to do all this so quickly."
"Mum, there is something important we need to talk about but it will have to wait for tonight. What time are you planning on eating?"
"William isn't going to be home tonight and your father and I don't get off until five. I was gonna start cooking when I got home."
"Mum, why don't we go out instead of you cooking? You will have worked all day, no sense in you having to cook when you get home." Edward turned towards Teddy who was nodding in agreement. Edward mouthed to Ted, "Do you like Italian?"
The question made Teddy nod quickly as he mouthed, "Love it."
"You know how much dad loves Italian. Why don't we go to Stef's? You know where it is?"
"Oh, your father will love it. He's always wanted to go there."
"Ok, why don't we meet you there about seven? That should give you enough time to go home, change and then get there." Edward looked to Teddy again who was nodding his agreement.
Teddy grabbed Edward's arm and whispered in his ear, "We'll have a car pick them up."
"Mum, look, we're gonna have someone come and pick you guys up at the house."
"Oh, no. We can get a taxi."
"Look mum, just indulge us would you."
"Ok dear. We'll see you there. I look forward to meeting your new girlfriend. Love you son."
"Um, yeah... Ok... We'll see you then mum. Love you too." Edward hung his phone up and pulled Teddy into a hug. He didn't say anything just held Ted tightly.
Teddy could tell that Edward was nervous. "Babe, if you don't want..." It was all Teddy could get out before Edward shut him up with a kiss. "It's not too late to..." Another kiss stopped him. "I'd understand if you..." Teddy thought Edward was trying to remove his tonsils using his tongue with this kiss. When Edward finally released him, Teddy just stood there. "Ok, I'll make the reservations, how many?"
"I'm thinking four of us, my parents, you and me. I'm not sure I want to subject Bess and Devon to this yet. If they are ok with it, we can always invite them back here to see Bess."
"Wow, you've thought this out, haven't you?"
"Would you believe since the first time you kissed me?"
Teddy felt his eyes moisten, "What did I do to deserve you in my life?"
"I think we've both been through enough to deserve each other, don't you think?"
"I do... and I also think it's too bad we can't take a nap before we go shopping." Teddy tried his best impression of Edward's grin.
"Are you tired? I feel..." Edward stopped and smiled, "Oh... a NAP." He smiled wide, "Don't think we have time for that. Can I interest you in some snogging?"
The trip to John Lewis Center was an adventure Teddy was sure he'd never forget. He originally thought Bess would be the child among them, he couldn't have been more wrong. It was Edward's youthful exuberance that was the most powerful among the group. The opposite end of the spectrum was Devon, who seemed to be overwhelmed and depressed by the situation. It took Edward "pulling rank" to finally get him to accept the reality of the moment and to enjoy it. Ted gave specific instructions to everyone, "Don't look at the price and just pick out what you want."
Teddy found shopping for a new bed with Edward to be the most interesting experience of the day. There were quite a few eyebrows raised as Edward would drag Teddy onto each bed with him to try the mattresses. As much as Teddy wanted to protest, he was in heaven. This would be something he would never have felt comfortable doing at home. When they finally climbed onto the memory foam super king mattress, they just looked at each other and smiled. Once the mattress had been selected, Edward let Ted pick out the bedroom furniture while he went to help Bess find a bed she liked.
When all the furniture had been selected, the group moved onto electronics. If the child side of Edward had come out while looking for beds, it was in complete overdrive now. Devon it seems had also finally hit his stride, and was actively looking for things he might like. Teddy selected a couple new game console and some games for "himself." In reality it was because neither of his older "children" would stop playing with the demos even while they kept saying they didn't want one. For his own part, Teddy wanted to replace just about everything electronic in the flat, since nothing had been changed since he first came to London in college.
When they were done in the electronics department, they split up and headed in different directions. While Edward and Bess went looking for toys, Ted took Devon to get some clothes. By his demeanor Ted could tell Devon's family had probably struggled to support all their children and Devon had never been able to really shop for clothes growing up. Devon seemed to need support and advice from Ted, who was thrilled to help him. While Devon was trying things on, Edward joined them while carrying a sleeping four year girl. She had her face buried against his neck, and looked content. Teddy envied her right then, he couldn't think of any place he'd rather be.
When they were finally finished Teddy sent everyone away as he paid for the furniture and electronics. He didn't want them to witness the final bill and he wasn't sure he wanted to see it himself. Even though spending money wasn't new to him, he rarely did spend large sums. This was something that needed to be done though, and making Edward and Devon uncomfortable if they saw the bill wasn't something he was willing to risk. The store manager was there at the end and business man in Ted came out as they talked about delivery and set-up. Because of the amount of money he was spending, the manager arranged for the normal two day delivery to be expedited and the items would be delivered later in the afternoon. Thankfully, they all had chosen items that were in stock and nothing had to be special ordered.
The drive back to Kensington seemed to take forever because of the heavy afternoon traffic. Devon and Viktor were talking about how long Viktor had lived in London and what he did before working for Ted. Ted noticed that Viktor wasn't being entirely forthcoming, but that was nothing new for the mysterious Russian. He tended to not let people close to him until he knew them well. Teddy knew it wouldn't take too long before he was his open talkative self.
In the back seat Elizabeth was asleep in her child seat, while Teddy had his head on Edward's shoulder. Edward's arm was wrapped around Teddy and he was singing quietly into Teddy's ear along with the radio. He suddenly stopped, "Babe, what you awake?"
"Yeah, just listening to you sing."
"Have I told you I love you lately?"
"Not in the last few hours." Teddy moved his hand that was on the inside of Edward's thigh, towards Edward's crotch.
"Well... I do love you." He paused and smiled as he whispered, "If you move your hand any further, I may have to show you how much."
"Promises, promises soldier boy." Teddy moved his head and kissed Edward. When he looked forward, Viktor was smiling at him in the rear view mirror.
"Just wait for tonight... we get to christen the new bed."
As soon as they arrived home, the three men started to move furniture out of the flat. Ted had arranged for a truck and crew from Jackson to help remove the items and to donate them to a shelter in the East End of London. Right on time the two trucks from John Lewis arrived and their crews began to carry in and set-up everything they bought.
Ted left Edward and Devon to supervise the `operation', while he went out on the balcony to make some phone calls.
"Stephanie Wilson."
"Well, good morning Stephanie."
"Mr. Jackson, it is so great to hear from you. How is everything going?"
"I'm wonderful, Stephanie. I can't even begin to tell you how fantastic I am right now."
"That makes me happy. What can I do for you this morning... or afternoon is it?"
"I was just checking in actually. Just came back from shopping and staying out of the way while they deliver stuff."
"There isn't anything going on here, other than the ordinary stuff."
"Ok, it looks like I will start going into the office here on Monday. Will you let them know and have them get my office ready."
"Of course, I'll take care of it."
"Thanks Steph. Call me if you need anything or else I will talk to you on Monday."
When he hung up, he called to arrange for a car to pick up Edward's parents for dinner tonight. He refrained from overdoing it and just sent a plain black Range Rover. Teddy felt low key was the best thing for tonight.
As they were getting ready to leave to meet Edward's parents, Teddy could feel himself getting more nervous. He was standing in the closet and he kept going over his clothes trying to find something to wear. He didn't realize it but Edward was standing in the closet's doorway watching him.
"Babe, are you ok?"
Teddy jumped from being startled and turned to look at Edward. "Christ you scared me." He could feel his eyes moisten and didn't quite know why. "What if they hate me? What if they blame me for turning you gay?"
Edward crossed the short distance quickly and wrapped him arms around Teddy. "Babe, don't worry. Do you remember what you said to your mother?"
"Yes." He was trying to moderate his breathing and to not start crying.
"Do you honestly think that I would pick my parents over you? Look at me." He pulled Teddy away from his chest and then used his hand to life Teddy's chin up so he could look into those brown eyes. "I will not let anyone come between us. I've waited all my life to find you and I'll be damned if I am going to let you get away. Do you understand me?"
"Yes." Teddy leaned up to kiss Edward. This wasn't a tongue wrestling match, it was a gentle heartfelt kiss that melded their souls once again.
"Now, let's get dressed before we get carried away and have to cancel."
Leaving Bess with Devon and the workmen, Teddy and Edward left for Stef's, an Italian restaurant located in the Westminster area of London. Edward hadn't said anything during the trip. He was sitting in the front seat, with Teddy directly behind him.
Teddy reached up and placed a hand on each of Edward's biceps and massaged them lightly. "Babe, are you going to be ok?"
"Yeah, I'll will be. After all my talk, I didn't realize how nervous I was going to be about this."
"It's not too late..."
"You're not getting rid of me." Edward laughed as he said it.
Teddy smiled, "Just checking... Thank God."
As they pulled up in front of Stef's they were surprised to find a parking place. Viktor parked and Edward jumped out and opened the door for Teddy. "Should we go in or wait for them?"
"That's up to you. Do you think it would be safer to wait out here, or go in and get our table?"
Edward looked around and then focused on Teddy, "Let's go get our table and a drink or two."
"Or three or four..." Teddy laughed as Edward grabbed his hand and walked inside.
Once inside they were actually greeted by Stef, and shown to their table. It was the first time either had been to the restaurant and they instantly like the atmosphere. When he made the reservation, Teddy had asked for someplace out of the way where they could have a private conversation. They were given a table towards the back, it had a brown leather booth type seating on one side and chairs on the other.
Edward positioned Teddy and himself on the bench. Teddy grabbed the drink menu, "We'll have two peach Bellini to start with and a bottle of Prosecco."
The waiter smiled and walked off, as Edward's attention was focused on the area of the front door. Teddy could see the muscles in Edward's neck were as tight as he had ever seen them. He reached under the table and placed his hand on Edward's thigh. There was an immediate reaction, with Edward visibly relaxing.
"Thanks babe. I wish I could just calm down."
Teddy leaned over and put his lips near Edward's ear, "It's a little late for now, but when we leave here I promise to give you something that will make you relax. A little oral relaxation if you get my meaning. When you start feeling stressed, just think about dessert."
The worried look on Edward's face was instantly replaced by a boyish grin, "Ooooh. Can we just get the check and..."
The waiter showed up with their drinks and the Prosecco. Edward and Teddy both downed the Bellinis and ordered two more.
Edward leaned over and kissed Teddy quickly and it was then that he saw his parents walking towards them. He quickly started to tense up, and Teddy squeezed his thigh. He relaxed again and Teddy moved his hand back to his own leg before Edward stood to greet his parents. Teddy also stood as the couple got close.
Teddy made a quick appraisal of Edward's parents as they were walking. Edward's father looked like an older more mature version of his son. He had a good build that showed he was athletic but with a bit of extra weight on him. Edward's mother was as lovely as her son was handsome. They both appeared to be in their early fifties, and made an extremely attractive couple. Teddy could see that Edward had his mother's eyes and smile. She did have a smile on her face as she got to the table, that was a good sign Teddy though. Teddy couldn't get a read on the look on Edward's father's face, which was looking squarely at Ted.
Mrs. Smythe walked over and hugged her son tightly, "It's so good to see you Edward."
"It's great to see you too, mum." As he released his mother as he turned to his father. He extended his hand towards his father, who finally turned his attention from Ted. "Hello, dad."
A smile broke on his face as he shook his son's hand, "Hello, Edward."
"Mum... dad... I want to introduce you to someone." He turned and placed his hand on Teddy's back, "This is Theodore Jackson. Ted these are my parents, Stephen and Rose Smythe."
Teddy extended his hand to Mrs. Smythe first and was rewarded by a smile and a firm handshake. "Mrs. Smythe, it is a pleasure to meet you. Edward has told me a lot about you. Please, call me Ted."
"I'm Rose."
Teddy then extended his hand toward Mr. Smythe and didn't get a smile this time, but there wasn't a glare either. He had a firm handshake, much like Edward's. "Mr. Smythe, it's an honor."
"Ted, call me Stephen."
They all sat down as the waiter showed up and filled everyone's glasses with the Prosecco. "I'll give you a few minutes and I'll be back."
Edward's mother still had a smile on her face as she tried the Prosecco. "This is very good."
"Yes ma'am, I have always liked it better than champagne." Ted was trying to watch Edward's parents for any sign of discomfort, but he didn't see any. But, he was still having a problem reading Stephen's reaction to the situation. He did take comfort in the fact that there was no overt sign of hostility when they came to the table and found a man with their son, instead of the female they were expecting.
Edward had basically inhaled his drinks and was pouring himself another. Teddy slowly moved his hand, which had been on his lap, placing it on Edward's leg. Edward looked over at him and half-heartedly smiled.
There was only small talk about the car ride, and the weather before the waiter returned to take the order. Once he was gone, Edward leaned forward and started to speak. "Mum... Dad... I guess by now you know what I meant when I said we needed to talk. I'm sorry for the abruptness of tonight, but we didn't plan on things going the way they have this week."
"Son, I guess saying I'm gob smacked would be an understatement. I have so many questions." Stephen's statement was said with warmth and for the first time Teddy realized that the look on his face had been surprise and concern.
"Edward, all I can say is you look happy. I don't know if I've seen you look happier, even if at the moment I think your nerves are overriding that happiness." Rose's laughter lifted the mood at the table. Everyone joined her laughing and finally there was a smile on Stephen's face. "Edward, I never knew you had these feelings before, at least you never said anything about it."
"No, mum, I never have had feelings for another man before. That all changed when I met Teddy, I finally felt complete. Like something I had been missing my entire life was suddenly found." Edward looked into Teddy's eyes, "I love him, with all my heart."
Rose turned her attention to Ted, "Well, I've never seen Edward so happy. For that I have to thank you. All I have ever wanted for him was someone to make him happy and love him. I think by the look on both of your faces, I am getting my wish. Do you love him as much as it seems he loves you Ted?"
Teddy turned to look into her eyes, "Yes Rose, I love him more than I could ever tell you. I will do everything in my power to make him happy."
"I do believe you will." She then turned her head towards her husband, "Stephen, are you ok with this?"
"Of course I am Rose. Why wouldn't I be, but I do have some questions."
Edward laughed, "Dad, it would have amazed me if you hadn't had questions."
Stephen looked directly at Teddy, "Ted, what do you do for a living?"
Edward looked over at Teddy and nodded while he smiled.
Teddy sat there for a minute, "Well Stephen, I'm President and Chairman of the Board of an international company, made up of several family owned businesses. We have construction, financial, consulting, and other interests. I also teach accounting at an on-line college."
"Would I have heard of the company?" At least, Teddy though Stephen seemed to be genuinely interested.
"Jackson Global."
Stephen's eyebrows went up instantly, "You're kidding right?"
Edward answered, "No dad, he's not kidding." Edward sounded annoyed by his father's reaction. "Also, before you ask what I'm sure your next question is, yes Teddy is older than I am. I will tell you right now it's not a problem for us. I hope that it won't be an issue for you either."
"Sorry son, I guess I was just surprised. I wouldn't have guessed there was much of an age difference. Where did the two of you meet?"
"I am friends with Ted's cousin John and his wife and they invited me to a party at their house in Savannah. Teddy was there and we met... It all happened so quickly..." He turned and smiled at Teddy, who was smiling back at him.
"Ted, what do your parents think of your relationship with our son? Or do they not know?" Rose showed genuine interest in her questions.
"Rose, my father died years ago and my mother doesn't approve of our relationship, or my lifestyle it would seem. She's afraid that Edward is going to use me and then hurt me."
"Well, that's terrible. She doesn't know my son, that's for sure."
"No she doesn't Rose."
It was then that the food arrived. There was some small talk during dinner about everyone's jobs. Stephen and Rose were both civil servants in "Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service." They both had many questions about Teddy and what it was like to work at Jackson Global. Teddy could tell that there were still many questions about him that went unasked.
Rose finally got a concerned look on her face, "Edward, what is going on with Mary and Elizabeth?"
"Well mom, when we were in Savannah I got a call from Bess. She said that Mary had gone out and never came home. The neighbor found Bess, and they called me that night. We flew here to London, and Ted arranged for a barrister for an emergency custody hearing. I have custody of Elizabeth and there will be a permanent custody hearing shortly. Mary was found overdosed on drugs and also in possession of a quantity of drugs. She is in hospital still and will be going to prison hopefully."
Stephen was the one to respond this time, and it surprised Teddy. "Edward, I know she hurt you, but are you sure that would be the best thing for Elizabeth?"
If Teddy was shocked, Edward was enraged. "Yes I am sure dad. You don't know what she has been putting Bess through. You didn't have to comfort her because Mary has been screaming and hitting her when she talked too much. I'm going to make sure that she can never hurt my daughter again."
Teddy reached over and placed his hand on top of Edward's, which was on the table. "Babe..."
Edward closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry dad. Yes, I'm sure it is the best thing for her."
"I didn't mean to upset you son, just needed to make sure you had thought this out."
"I understand dad, you are just thinking of Elizabeth."
Rose looked over at Ted, "I for one never liked that bitch, but I have always tried to keep it to myself. I have to admit that I'd like to have her alone in a room for a few minutes, after what she put Edward through."
Teddy thought to himself, `I am going to love this woman.' He smiled at Rose, "I'm right with you Rose, maybe the two of us should go and pay her a visit."
"You're on." Unknown to Teddy, Rose was thinking the same thing he had been, she had decided that Ted was perfect for Edward and she was going to grow to love him as another son.
Edward laughed, "Great, now I'm going to have to keep an eye on both of you." He looked at his parents, "Do you two want to come back to the flat and see Elizabeth?"
Both grandparents smiled wide, "We'd love it. It wouldn't be imposing would it?" Rose had a sound of hope in her voice.
"Please Rose, it would never be an imposition to have you come visit. You are both always welcome." Ted smiled as Edward squeezed his hand.
Edward waved the waiter over who had been looking at him. "Let me settle the bill and we can go."
When the waiter arrived with the bill, Teddy grabbed it before Edward could. He received a scowl from Edward, but he ignored it. As they were waiting for the waiter to return, Stef came to the table and spoke with them. It was nice for the personal attention, and the guys decided they would definitely return again in the future.
The ride back to the flat was nice and quiet, taking both vehicles gave each couple some privacy to talk. This time Edward sat in the back seat with Teddy, who had his head on Edward's shoulder as they rode.
Edward leaned over and kissed Teddy's head. "Well, that actually went better than I thought it would. Sorry I was so nervous earlier."
"It's understandable so don't worry about it." Teddy brought his hand to Edward's face and then kissed him lightly on the lips. "I love you."
Edward returned the kiss with a little more force than Teddy, "I love you too." Edward tilted his head, "Babe, your birthday is in a couple weeks. Is there anything special you want to do?"
"I hadn't even thought about it. Not really looking forward to this one."
"It is a very special one... We should do something."
"We can do whatever you want. I was really just thinking about spending a nice night at home with you and Elizabeth."
Pulling up outside of Albert Court, the guys got out and met Edward's parents as they got out of their vehicle. Rose was wide-eyed, "My goodness, this is where you live?"
Teddy smiled at her, "Yes, this is it. Come on up."
Edward looked at his parents' reactions as they entered the building and made their way to the lift. "I forgot to mention to you, Devon Baker is living and working for us. He is going to be taking care of Elizabeth while Ted and I are working."
"I thought he was in the Army?" Stephen was looking at the ornate ceiling as he asked the question.
"He was dad, he was discharged today."
That was all that was said, as they waited for the lift to get them to the third floor. When they opened the door to the flat, they could hear Devon and Elizabeth in the living room. Elizabeth was singing to a karaoke video game that Teddy bought that day.
When they entered the room, Elizabeth stopped singing and ran to Edward and Teddy and was given hugs and kisses from both of the men. She then went to her grandparents and was instantly picked up by her grandmother. They all spent the next hour or so playing with Elizabeth and talking.
"Mom, how do you think William is going to take all of this." For the first time since dinner, Edward sounded concerned.
"I'm not sure dear. You know he idolizes you. We raised him to be loving and respectful, so I think it will be ok."
"Well, when do you think I should tell him?"
Stephen answered for his wife, "Edward, let us take care of it. I think it would be better coming from us right now."
"Ok dad."
Stephen and Rose left shortly after, followed soon by Elizabeth going to bed and then Devon heading to his room. Teddy and Edward were left in the living room snuggled up on the couch.
Edward was behind Teddy on the couch, thinking about the day's events. He leaned over and as he was about to kiss Ted's neck he realized that he was sound asleep leaning against his chest. It made Edward smile that Teddy was relaxed and trusted him enough to do that. He didn't want to wake him, but he wanted to relocate them to the bedroom. He reached up and turned the light on the end table off. The only light was now from the hallway and coming thru the windows.
He leaned over and kissed Teddy gently on the neck, below the ear. "Babe, it's time to go to bed."
Teddy rolled over and snuggled into Edward's chest. He didn't say anything and his breathing remained a steady deep rhythm. Edward decided there was only one way to handle this. He moved out from behind Teddy and then stood up. He turned the stereo off and returned to where Teddy was asleep on the couch. He reached over and carefully picked Teddy up.
Teddy didn't completely wake up when Edward picked him up. He did however wrap his arms around Edward and nuzzled his face into Edward's neck.
Edward walked them into the bedroom and placed Teddy on the bed. He carefully removed Teddy's clothes before removing his own and climbing into bed behind him. Edward fell asleep quickly after he wrapped his arms around Teddy.
