CHAPTER 3
(Revisiting Chapter 2)
Within twenty-four hours, the Tacian government had not only approved the amnesty for their four cadets, but ordered the Captain of the Orestes publicly to praise Justin as a "model of concern for one's allies". The Captain and the Field Marshal actually met over a drink and shook their heads, wishing that all potentially messy situations could be cleared up so simply!
Seen off by his grateful young friends and many new ones, Justin soon returned to his duties. His Adjutant service with Marshal Alexios would have to await another day. He did wonder about the skill of Tacian surgeons. If they were that good, shouldn't it be possible to transplant one of those tongues into his mouth...at least one long enough to reach the prostate? Maybe that's what he should have requested!
(Continuing Our Story: In the Shadow of Neptune)
As one might guess, Justin returned to duty with his own unit under extremely positive circumstances. For some time, the Tacian Minister of Defense had had increasingly serious reservations about the psychological readiness of Terran troops. This was especially true as regard those young enough not to have suffered through the atrocities that took place during the liberation from the Canmutons some fifty years ago. The reports he was receiving from the Orestes, confirmed by personal conversations with the Captain of the flagship and Field Marshal Alexios were at least one indicator that their spirit was high. Even more, it was an indicator that the heavy degree of Tacian involvement in Earth's affairs were not causing a backlash. The Tacians did not need that as they slowly worked at bringing the Terran Federation within Tacia's sphere of influence. Hence, the plea for amnesty lodged by Cadet Lawrence had a most positive effect in both camps. It was a case of one concrete incident being worth more than a dozen intelligence reports.
The Battle of the Moons
There was one more area where there was strong agreement between Tacian and Terran authorities. There intelligence services had independent confirmation that the Canmuton forces were planning a massive "preemptive strike" before the balance of power shifted irrevocably against them. While their space fleet had been mauled in the battles that freed Terra, it was still a force to be reckoned with. In fact, during the past fifty years, many of their losses in ships, equipment, and men had been restored. Further, while much smaller, the fleets of their allies on the planets Attia and Serium were ready for action. This was especially true of Attia, for the small desert planet was the home of intergalactic traders. Consequently, they had a host of small, very fast ships that could be equipped with heavy arms and casmitic-tipped torpedoes in a matter of weeks.
The Joint Command was reluctant to meet the Canmuton fleet head on. At the very least, it would be numerically superior, and there was no good reason to believe that the fighting qualities of the Attian and Serium warriors and their ships were inferior to those of the Allies. Several decisions were made in light of those assumptions. For instance, remembering the World War II Battle of Midway (A.D. 1942) that turned the tide of battle in the Pacific, the supplemented Terran defensive force would be concealed amongst the thirteen moons of Neptune. Three new and powerful battle cruisers were detached from the Tacian fleet and put under the command of the Terran Admiral Sir John Jeffers and his Executive Officer, Air Commodore Paul Roberts. Terra was able to provide him with the recently launched Star Cruiser Baltimore (Jeffers' flagship), the older Battlecruiser London (recaptured from the Canmutons at the time of the liberation), the new Fleet Carrier Lexington, and various smaller ships. The rest of Tacia's fleet remained in home space, for there was always the possibility that the defensive forces would be overcome and Tacia itself would be attacked. Thus, only two ships could be held in reserve, the Terran Star Cruiser Kursk and the Tacian flagship, the Star Cruiser Orestes. Three great troop transports joined them. Finally, it was decided in principle that both Terran and Tacian warriors should be on each ship of the fleet, even if only symbolically. Only days before the fleet departed for Neptune, for instance, Admiral Jeffers received a request from Field Marshal Alexios that Justin Lawrence be assigned to him as his adjutant and the Terran observer on board the Orestes. These requests were approved pro forma, and an excited young Terran was promptly ferried out to the proud Tacian star cruiser that was still based at the mooring platform near Old Boston.
Opinion was divided as to what the allies faced. True, the Canmutons were a cruel and warlike people with large forces under arms. Several planets in their galaxy (and Earth in ours) had been subjugated. Other planets, including Attia and Serium, had accepted their "leadership." This camp saw Earth's liberation as something of a fluke. That is, Earth was freed basically because Canmuton forces and interest were engaged elsewhere. Furthermore, this group warned, it was clearly in the Tacians' interest for Canmuto's remaining power to be crushed, Attia's commercial interests to be made more dependant on them, and Serium's natural resources to be open to Tacian exploitation. Those on the other side of the argument saw the need for new alliances at a time when Canmuto retained little more that its reputation for ferocity. Its day as the galactic bullyboy had passed and inner rot would see its collapse once a solid defeat could be administered. Whether or not Jeffers' fleet could administer that blow remained, of course, in question. In any case, it was a question that would produce and answer within the relatively near future, for intelligence said that the Canmuton fleet had left its bases. One by one, with no fanfare, the allied ships slipped out of their bases and headed for the moons of Neptune at warp speed.
The immense enemy fleet quickly passed the borders set by the Intergalactic Space Administration. Passing Neptune at some distance, it clearly had one target in its sights, Terra! Miles to the rear In reserve, the Orestes and the Kursk probably had a better bird's-eye view of the approach than did the men on board the various ships of the fleet. It was immense! As it moved slowly, but inexorably, Justin (clad in the simple uniform of the Terran Special Forces and standing on the bridge of the Orestes) wondered how anything they had could possibly disrupt its passage. The observers were soon to discover that Sir John was cut in the centuries-long pattern of outstanding Terran space commanders.
As the Field Marshal walked by on the bridge, he smiled at Justin, saying, "Watch carefully. You are about to see some very pretty maneuvers." And, indeed, Justin did - for a good forty-five minutes. As the Canmuton fleet lumbered past the score of concealed ships, all was quiet until a single, terse message came crackled through space: "ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK!" Suddenly, space was filled with explosions and ships darting in and out of the Canmuton ranks. Canmuton ships began to burst into flame, explode, and drift out of the battle. "Ha!" the young Lieutenant next to Justin would have yelled if he hadn't caught himself and toned it down at the last minute. "Those Canmuton ships are big and tough, but their technology is seventy-five years out of date!" he exclaimed, "and yours have been built to be almost as powerful as ours!". The battle per se was over in a relatively short period, although the cleanup took a little longer. Finally, beyond heavily damaged ships fleeing the scene, only their giant flagship, the Nu, remained in action. Indeed, blasting a smaller Tacian battle cruiser, it broke through the battle lines and continued on towards Earth. Serenely, the Star Cruiser Orestes moved across its path, firing a brace of casmitic-tipped torpedoes at the enemy. Almost in slow-motion, both hit the Canmuton vessel. With a shock wave that shook the Orestes, she simply came apart in mid space, sending bits and pieces of debris hundreds of miles in every direction.
Elation
As Justin tried to make his way back to the Field Marshal's cabin through the horde of jubilant Tacians, his arm was suddenly grabbed by someone in the surging crowd. "Justin! It's you!" shouted a rejoicing young cadet. "What in hell are you doing here?" Tarshi continued. "Hey, Tarshi!" the Terran youth yelled, trying to make himself heard over the tumult. Privately, of course, he was delighted to find Tarshi in the same friendly (and, evidently, grateful) mood in which he had left him when he was ordered back to his unit on Earth. "I've been posted to the Orestes as the Field Marshal's Adjutant and the Terran observer," he answered with a grin. "Well, hey, man!" the young Tacian yelled. "You gotta get out of that uniform and join your friends in steerage!" Allowing himself to be dragged along, the willing "prisoner" soon found himself back in his friends' small cabin in the bowels of the giant warship. Forced to immediately divest himself of his uniform by a young Tacian who was clearly ready to party, Justin found that they were soon joined by Tarshi's cabinmates, Damian, Tycho, and Eros. Accompanied by about five shipmates, they burst into the tiny cabin, waving a large bottle of Gillitch. (Author's Note: There's simply no good English spelling for this classic Tacian swill that has the smoothness of a scouring pad and the kick of crusty old ram deprived of his females!) Later that evening, Justin awoke in a tangle of light blue bodies, but managed to find his way to the squad's shower facilities where he was able to get a quick shower and struggle back into his uniform. Nursing an aching head and having to stop several times for directions, he found his way back to the Marshal's quarters. The marine guard wasn't about to let him disturb Alexios at that hour, but the Field Marshal heard the disturbance at his door, opened it, and allowed Justin - much the worse for the wear - to enter. The beautiful young Earthman remembered nothing more until he awoke hours later to the sound of a bugle over the ship's loudspeaker system. Curled up comfortably in his bunk, naked as the day he was born, his entire system cried desperately for more sleep!
(Gaining an Adjutant)
Justin finally awoke to find Marshal Alexios sitting on the edge of his mattress. "Some day," he growled in mock anger, "I'm going to have an adjutant. I may even get his help in designing a landing plan for my marines on Canmuto." "Oh my God!" the handsome young Terran exclaimed in complete humiliation. "I can't believe I've overslept like this. Give me just a minute, sir, and I'll be with you." With that, he began to move as if to roll out of the bunk. The great hero of the Tacians placed his index finger in the middle of the boy's bare chest and, smirking sensually, pushed him back into his pillow. With the fingers of the other hand, he quickly threw back the covers, leaving Justin in his... natural state. "Oh, sir," the youth almost whined. The Field Marshal gave him no respite. With his index finger, he traced the shape of the boy's heavy pecs and scratched at his nipples. Slowly, it worked its way down his heavy torso, pausing to play with his navel, tickle his flat lower stomach, and stroke the prominent ridge of cartilage that marked the end of one magnificent section of his body and the beginning of the second. By now, of course, the young Terran's heavy shaft had stiffly erected. The finger marched on to explore its thick base, trace a few purple veins, and lightly claw at the juncture on the lower side where stem and heavy head joined. Justin gasped and writhed in mounting passion. Tightly gripping the lad's heavy biceps in his hands, the Marshal slowly lowered his head, taking the dripping glans into his mouth and not stopping until it was well into his throat. Feeling the Marshal's throat muscles alternately squeezing and releasing his pulsing helmet, Justin trembled, scarcely able to breathe. Slowly, he felt a scream rising from deep within his body, working its way up into his throat, and bursting from his mouth with the force of a locomotive's great steam- driven whistle. The blood vessels in his brain pulsed and his vision dimmed as a massive orgasm overcame his consciousness and flung him into the darkness.
When the young lad came to, he was sitting up, his bare chest held tightly against the chest of Alexios. The Marshal, in no little distress, was whispering words of comfort into his ear and kissing his neck and shoulders. A small amount of blood-specked foam dribbling from his open mouth slowly stained the back of his mentor's brilliant white shirt. Finally, he was able to utter a few intelligible words: "Oh, master, I do love you as I love the sun and the air and life itself." Moments later, he murmured, "Help me into the shower, for I can't make it alone."
Standing in the powerful spray that lashed their bodies. Justin turned his face back towards the Marshal and hungrily kissed him. "I would give you a present, sir...freely, joyfully, and with everything that I am. Take me, please. Mark me. Make me yours for as long as I may serve you." "Justin...no...you need to rest...later," Alexios protested. "Do this for me, Alexios. Mark me, take me!" the youngster repeated in a strong voice. Slowly, hesitatingly, his face tense, the great leader of the Tacians began to thrust into the flesh of the beautiful youngster from the blue planet. Faster...faster...gasping... groaning in need, biting the lad's powerful traps...stiffening with passion...faster... deeper...DEEPER - until with a great roar the Tacian came. Reaching around the boy's body, he grasped his rock-hard flesh. With a sharp cry of release, Justin pumped his essence into his master's hand and slumped back into his protecting arms.
