Chapter 3
Dad finally broke the silence, "Who the fuck do you think you are coming in here like you're welcomed." I couldn't believe it.
Tim immediately backed up out of fear, my Dad's an intimidating figure. But I quickly tried to diffuse the situation.
"Tim what are you doing here?" I asked calmly.
"Yes, please explain." Dad said harshly.
He looked hesitant but he spoke, "I-- I stood up to my Dad. I told him that what he said to you, or more like about you, was horribly wrong and he did not respond to well to me defending you. So he basically said if I'm gonna side with you then I can find somewhere else to stay and he kinda kicked me out." He said all of this really fast and for a second I wasn't sure if I had even heard him right. His Dad threw him out because he was sticking up for me? That guy is more of an asshole than I thought.
"Oh my God are you serious?! Tim I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to cause you this much trouble." I felt so guilty I should've never gone to dinner.
"No, it's not your fault don't worry. My Dad's a total tool and he needs to be told off and none of us are ever brave enough to stand up to him. And you're my best friend, I will always be by your side."
We both instantly hugged each other and held on tight, we hadn't been this emotional with each other in a long time. My Dad and brothers were still watching us until Dad relented.
"Okay, you know what son you can stay here tonight and we'll figure what's happening with your Dad when you guys get back from school tomorrow. Okay, you guys move on out, leave these boys alone." As he pushed my brothers out the door. Then he turned to my and rubbed my head, "You okay kiddo?"
"Yeah, Dad"
"Okay, goodnight boys and De I love you, don't you forget that." Then he closed the door and left.
Tim and I just stood there for a second then I really looked at his face and saw how upset he looked. "Tim you wanna talk about things?" I said hesitantly as I ushered him to sit on the bed and I joined him.
He looked at me silently like he was trying to figure out what to say. "It's just-- I wish that I had a family like yours, you know. One that is loving and accepting. I mean, like I tell my dad I quit the baseball team and he wants to crucify me and your Dad would never do that to you."
"Well I think my Dad knows I'm never playing a baseball." I laughed, trying to diffuse the tension. He laughed weakly too, but I could tell he wasn't for it right now. "Sorry. I guess my family is just more accepting because we know what it's like to lose someone in the family so we never want to jeopardize our relationships with each other. It's like the old saying you don't know what you've got til it's gone. Maybe your Dad just needs a while to realize what he's actually done and said and then he'll get over it."
"God De, you make so much sense sometimes. How did you get so wise?" He said quietly as he touched my leg. Oh God how I wish he wasn't straight. He would be the most perfect boyfriend.
Let me explain one quick thing about Tim. We've been friends since we were 8 years old. So we know each other inside and out. And he is a nice, sensitive, not to mention good looking, guy. I mean he's kinda gorgeous with his shiny brown hair cut neatly and his piercing blue eyes, the fact that he's taller than me by a couple of inches so he's not too tall but not too short, I could go on. Obviously I've had time to observe him, I've had off and on crushes on him ever since I realized I was gay, but he is undeniably and unfortunately straight. Embarrassingly enough, when I was 14 I tried to come on to him thinking he might be into, even if it was just for experimenting's sake, but he rejected me. Again this proves just how perfect he is he lightly pushed me away and said, "Demitri, you know I'm straight and I can't do this with you, but just know that if I was gay I would get with you in a second." Then he hugged me. After that I knew that I couldn't convert him and that he would always be my best friend no matter what. So that's why I must refrain from developing a crush on him.
"I don't know I was just born wise."
"Hey, I just wanna say again how sorry I am about happened with my Dad and everything. I didn't know he could ever be so-- so evil. He's just the worse, you know." I loved how he says 'you know' after everything.
"It's okay Timmy, let's not talk about it anymore today. I don't feel like it anymore. Let's just get ready for bed, it's getting late and we gotta be up for school in the morning. Do you want something to wear to sleep." I asked as I pulled out a shirt.
"No, that's okay, I don't think any of your clothes would fit me." He said while laughing.
"Shut up, your not immensely bigger than me or anything."
"Yeah, but you like wearing things that are a bit too small and too tight for my liking."
"Okay, whatever, wise guy. You can be in your underwear then." I said sharply, only slightly offended by what he said. Maybe I do where things a bit tight, but it woks well on me.
"Yeah, that's fine I sleep in my underwear at home anyways." He looked at me just as he took off his shirt. And by the way he's ripped, he's got a beautiful six pack that I would love to lick. Yeah, I don't have a crush on him, alright. "It's been a while since we've had a 'sleep over', hasn't it?"
"Yeah, it has" I said quietly as I took off my shirt and pants and quickly put on a T-shirt and sweat pants. I usually just wear my underwear as well but I didn't want Tim to get the wrong idea and think that I'm coming onto him again. "I'll take the floor and you can take the bed."
"No, no, I'm not gonna impose on you anymore than I already have. Let's just sleep in the bed together." He said while taking off him pants and only standing there in his boxers. "Like we used to"
Is he really that oblivious, does he not know that he is becoming my wet dream right now. "Ok, that's fine too."
I got into bed and he got in on the other side and we just laid there for a second. Then he turned on his side facing me. I turned my head in a questioning way, "What's up?" I asked.
"Do you remember when we were 13 or 14, I can't remember, but the time when you-- uh tried to kiss me?" Why did he have to bring that up right now?
" Um, yeah, how could I forget it was a very mortifying moment for me. Why are you bringing this up?"
"It's just, I know that you know I'm straight. And I know you've never pressured me to be anything else, except for that one time. But sometimes I feel... well I wish I could be more for you, you know."
What! "Wait, what are you saying Tim."
"Don't take it the wrong way, it's not like I'm declaring my love for you, I'm just telling you how I feel. I am still straight. I just know that 'if' I was gay, I would totally be with you."
"You know you basically said that same thing when we were 14 and I tried to kiss you."
"I know. I just want you to know that I mean that. I care about you so much De, I love you." In my mind that's all he would say before he kisses me passionately, but real life he finished off the 'I love you' statement with, "I love you like a brother De." Of course you do.
"And I really appreciate you letting me stay here without a second thought, even after what my dumb ass father did. I'm just so lucky to have you in my life." Then, I kid you not, he hugged me while we laying in bed, while he was only wearing his underwear.
"Thanks for saying that Tim, don't forget you are my best friend and I'd do anything for you so it's no problem."
He let go of me and we just laid there silently for the rest of the night. Nothing happened, I swear.
The next day was a Friday, thank God.
We were finally moving on from the events that transpired last night, when our Psychology teacher Mr. Glenn tells us that we have to pick partners for a project. Naturally Tim and I are partners and everyone's pairing up with their friends when Tim notices that the new guy Jeremy doesn't have a partner.
"Hey De, I think we should invite Jeremy to be in our group." And before I can confirm or deny whether that's a good idea he asks him. He walks over to Jeremy and says, "Hey you can be in our group."
Jeremy looks so hopeful, "Yeah thanks" as he pulls up a chair to sit with us. He looks at me and says, "Hey, I'm Jeremy."
I just look at him so Tim takes over, "Oh, this is De, well Demitri but most people just call him De."
Here's the thing about Jeremy and why I was so tongue tied, it's because I have been eyeing him for awhile, and by awhile I mean since school started a couple months ago. I've never said anything to him, but I think he's gorgeous. Now this is the one thing that I haven't told Tim since he's straight I try to spare him the details of my fantasies. The only person I'll tell about my desires is my only other friend Nikki, but we'll meet her later. Anyways, the object of my obsession is Jeremy Griffin, he moved to the school this year, he's essentially my dream (wet dream). Let me describe him real fast, he has dark brown hair, hazel eyes that change colors with the different color shirts (yes I have noticed). He's 5'11 and he's got about the greatest body because he's a swimmer so he's got that swimmer's body. So, I have such a crush on him and of course fate would have it that he would be in a group project with us. I'm ecstatic to be around him, but I'm also dreading it because whenever I'm around someone I'm crushing on I get so nervous.
I just mustered a wave at him and then turned away from them with a blush. Why am I such a idiot!?
Tim just looked at me confused, "Okay so anyways. We should all meet up on Saturday to work on the project. Maybe we could meet at the library or..."
"Or we could meet up at my house. You know so we can talk as loud as we want." I threw out very quickly. I just wanted any excuse to have Jeremy in my house.
"You sure you're Dad would be okay with that?" Tim looked skeptical.
I looked at Tim with a weird expression, sometimes we can sort of read each others minds and know what the other's thinking since we've been friends for so long, but today it was not working. "Um, yeah, he'd be fine with it."
Me and Tim were silently looking at each other when Jeremy interrupted. "Okay, sounds like a plan but you'll have to give me the address."
"Oh, yeah sure"
Once class was over and we were in the hall Tim pulled me aside. "Are you sure that you're okay with Jeremy working with us, I kinda jumped the gun and invited him without asking."
"Yeah, it's totally fine, why wouldn't it be fine?"
"Well you were just acting weird in there so I thought you had a problem. And then you were offering up your house to do the project at and I didn't want to give your Dad anymore hassle then what's already happened."
"What hassle, he loves having people over. After all he's used to a lot of people being around since he has four sons. It's all good, don't worry."
"Okay" He looked relieved. I swear that kid needs to lighten up he is always so worried.
The bell rang which meant lunch time. Well for me, see we have three lunch periods so that not everyone's in the lunch room at the same time so I get to go in the first group because of my class schedule but Tim has the last lunch period so we don't eat lunch together. Lunch is the time that I spend with my other friend Nikki that I talked about. It kind of works out well because I'm able to talk about whatever I want since we both have the same interest which is: boys and pop culture, which are two things that Tim is not interested in.
"See ya later De"
"Bye Tim" I watched as he walked away.
"Yeah 'bye Tim'" said in a whiny mocking voice, I knew who it was immediately.
I turned around and Nikki was standing there. Let me just introduce my girl Nikki real fast. Her full name is Nicola Jefferson, but everyone calls her Nikki. She describes herself as the "younger, more beautiful version of Kerry Washington", I always tell her that's only according to her. She's so funny and cute, I feel like if I was straight I would date her. We met in middle school and have been friends since now, sophomore year. She's really my only other friend besides Tim, that's kinda sad.
"Do you still have a crush on him?"
"Him who?"
"Tim, him, that's who. For a while you were pining after him and I wasn't sure if that was still going on or not." She said with a smirk.
As we walked to the cafeteria I looked around to make sure Jeremy wasn't somehow behind me, "No I'm over him now." She looked at me skeptically, "Well I'm mostly over him. What, a guy can't admire beauty every once in a while. Anyways, I have a new obsession that I've been keeping a secret."
"Ooh, a secret lover."
I looked at her in disgust, she knows I hate the word 'lover'. "No, but I wish he was. No, it's the new guy Jeremy Griffin, he's Psychology class. He's a dream."
"More like a wet dream." She murmured.
"Oh my God I literally thought the same thing in my head." This is why she's perfect for me.
We sat down at our usual table. "So you know who I'm talking about then?" I asked. When I have a crush sometimes I feel like I'm the only one to notice the person, I get kind of possessive.
"Of course I did, he's a babe. He's in my English class and I sit right behind him, I'm basically drooling by the end of the class."
"So do you think he might be gay?" I asked hopefully. I'm always too hopeful.
"Do you think who's gay?" Claire and Tiffany asked at the same time. I think I visibly cringed.
Claire and Tiffany are Nikki's best friends. It's not that I don't like them it's just that they annoy me so much. I sometimes refer to them as the "unholy duo" but that an affectionate nickname, right? The thing is they treat me like an accessory, like the token gay guy and I hate that. They always ask me uncomfortable questions that I don't want to answer, they're so nosy. So at this moment when all I want to talk to is Nikki, they're really ruining it.
"He's talking about Jeremy Griffin, he's new obsession." Nikki basically exclaimed. I glared at her. I love her, but sometimes I could kill her.
They both 'Oohed' at the same time. I swear they act like twins, even more so than my brothers and they actually are twins.
"Yeah, but it's no big deal. Nothing to talk about." I said quickly.
"What, you were practically gushing a second ago. We need to find out if he's gay or not." Nikki said hopefully.
"That's not necessary I mean--"
I was cut off by Tiffany (the dumbest of the two). "No, we should totes find out if he's a homo." Then she looked at me, "You guys still call yourselves homos right?"
"Not exactly"
"Well, what Tiffany is trying to say is that we should create a situation where you guys can interact and see if he's interested." Claire explained.
"Well, I'm already in a group project with him so--"
But the bitch cut me off again. "No, ew, that's boring school crap. No, we need a situation like, like Claire's Halloween party. It's perfect, it's a week away and you can invite him it'll be great. I feel like we're in Will and Grace or something."
I swear Tiffany must be mentally ill or something. In what way is this like Will and Grace? But she does bring up a point. This brings out the devious, scheming side in me.
"That might not be a bad idea. It's a good place to get to know him socially and figure out if he's interested."
"So, it's a plan then just invite him soon and we'll get this ball rolling." Nikki said excitedly.
"I guess I could invite him tomorrow when he comes over to my house for our project." This just might work... or not, with me who really knows.
