Summary: Eight new slaves arrive at the Texas Road Work Commission for processing and induction.

The following day, I was scheduled to receive eight newly sentenced slaves. The allocation of new slaves can be unpredictable. Ownership is randomly assigned to avoid racial disparities, ensuring a fair distribution. Not all slaves are equally fit for every task. Upon receiving a slave, the pod identifies any unsuitability for labor. If found unsuitable, the system assesses the retention, profitability of sale, or need for termination. Individuals deemed unsuitable for labor but financially viable for sale are then put to work until they are sold. Subsequently, all new arrivals undergo processing at a labor camp before being sold to another government institution or as "private property," which encompasses various forms of ownership, including corporate or domestic slavery.
As a result, slaves deemed unsuitable for labor and not financially viable for sale may receive a fatal injection before leaving the pod. Typically, around ten percent of new arrivals are terminated during processing. With an intake of eight individuals, it was likely that at least one wouldn't make the cut.
When the new slaves arrived, they were clad in their jail jumpsuits and shackled together. Led in a single file to the Slave Processing Facility, each was then uncuffed and stripped. At this juncture, one exhibited shyness, attempting to conceal his genitals. This behavior was not uncommon. However, the enforcement modules would swiftly address and eliminate such behaviors.
Some exhibited characteristics of hardened criminals, either with a history of chronic offenses or enduring prolonged hardships. The remainder presented a diverse mix. Among them was an individual clearly under 20, with their offense still a mystery to me. I would discover their transgression upon placing them in the pod. Experience had taught me that appearances could be deceiving; it was not uncommon for the seemingly gentlest-looking individual to harbor a history of violence or severe criminal behavior.
None of the new slaves displayed signs of resistance at this stage, but that frequently changed once I instructed them to enter the pods. Panic often overtook them. In such cases, tasers were employed to subdue them, and they were then placed into their pods by force. Approaching the group, I walked past them and opened eight of the ten pods. "Find an empty pod and get in. Resisting will have consequences you won't like." One individual protested, claiming unfairness, and was promptly tased. The others complied, quickly selecting one of the available pods. The subdued individual was then carried over and placed into the remaining pod.
The pods initiated their processes upon closure. As I closed the lids, most slaves remained silent, though one pleaded for an extension to consult his lawyers. He had the demeanor of a white-collar criminal. Ignoring his plea, I gently pushed his head down and sealed the lid. Approaching his control panel, I observed the biometric scans compiling data and erasing his records. His readout indicated a charge of burglary, which surprised me. Continuing down the line, I noted that the majority were petty criminals. The young one date raped a college girl. Served the little fucker right, he wound't be using that cock ever again.
By the time I reached the last pod, the slaves' vocal cords would have already been severed, and their hair removal process was well underway. The soundproofed pods ensured no sounds escaped, a relief as I preferred not to hear the automated voice that would become their sole companion once the collar was installed--a constant reminder of their enslaved status. Most instructions were conveyed through the collar, minimizing direct interaction. Some days, it was the only voice they heard, a tactic effective for control and dehumanization, though it left me unsettled.
After a few weeks, little of the original person remained. Initial obedience stemmed from fear but evolved into habit, leading them to do nothing without instruction. If left idle, they stood staring vacantly, making it easy to regard them as mere equipment. However, unlike the other staff, I had seen them before, prior to their spirit being broken by sheer terror of agonizing punishment.
Before the induction demonstration, they still exhibited some autonomy. However, weeks later, they had learned the rules through repeated punishment for transgressions. While many erred on the side of caution, the permissible boundaries were broader than they realized. Yet, the fear of pain deterred them from testing these limits.
This training method proved highly effective, albeit at the cost of individuality, as they exhibited little autonomy due to the fear of punishment. Occasionally, glimmers of their former selves emerged, often followed by panic and relief if no punishment ensued. Certain actions inadvertently triggered punishment, as the collar monitored their behavior and punished minor infractions randomly. Contact with the collar or cuffs or refusing orders consistently led to punishment, while touching themselves or attempting to speak typically resulted in consequences only if they had an assigned task--though tasks were frequently assigned.
As one of the pods finished its processing, I opened it and retrieved the newly processed slave. Tears streamed down his face as I guided him to a designated area and instructed him to remain there while I organized the remaining slaves in a row behind him.
Only the fifth pod contained an unsuitable slave. The readout indicated a food allergy not accounted for in the slave nutrition program. All slaves received the same diet, an allergy would affect productivity. I would assign some of the inducted slaves to dispose of the terminated slave later.
I guided the new slaves to the orientation and training center where their induction would begin.
