The Truth on Love Chapter 2

Devin laid up and tried to pull his hand away only to have it drawn nearer to the guy.

"I'm assuming you're using me as a way to deal with your break up."

"Can we not talk about that?"

"I think I'd rather talk about it. What's your motivation?" Devin asked.

"I have none."

"Yeah, and I have no name."

"Sure you do. Your name's Devin." The guy smiled and looked at Devin. "Why don't you just lay down and relax with me? It's too good of a night to just throw it all away."

I laid back down and looked over at him.

"What's going through your mind?" Devin asked.

"A lot of things. Just, life."

"Drew, you know you can tell me anything if you want to. I won't tell," Devin said.

Drew took a deep breath and said, "You know, the whole time I was with Vicky, I... I didn't feel right. I was never really that connected with her."

"You fell out of love."

"No, I don't think I ever was in love with her." Drew turned his head to face Devin. "Here I am holding your hand and I don't feel at all out of place. It feels... just right."

Devin looked away from his glance. Devin was thinking to himself saying that Drew was either drunk or out of his mind for saying something like that. But considering the type of person Devin is, he let go of the judging.

"What do you think?" asked Drew.

"I think you may be slightly confused. This break up has probably affected you more that you thought. Just give yourself a few days to yourself to really think about things."

Devin looked over to the door and noticed that both the window and door blinds were closed. Caroline must have seen how Drew was reacting.

"Do you drink?" asked Devin.

"Me? Do I? I don't think so. Do you think I do? You do don't you." Drew was smiling.

"No, I'm not the type to be judging others."

"But you do it without thinking. Everybody does. To everyone else I'm a drunk, a pot head, a jerk, a player and any other mean things someone can call you," said Drew.

"You don't seem that bad to me."

Drew got up, letting go of Devin's hand.

"I can tell. You take me seriously. You actually listen. I like that about you."

Devin smiled a little.

"You should go," Drew said. "Before things get out of hand."

Devin got up and walked inside the house. What did he mean by that?

Most of the party had died down and very few people remained.

"Wasn't this supposed to be a bonfire?" asked Carmen.

"Yeah, but Devin was hogging the backyard with Drew," Caroline said. "Doesn't really matter though. Most people just came for the alcohol."

"And others for your brother's dick," said Carmen with a laugh.

"Hey! He barely gets any to begin with. You can't be assuming lies." Caroline looked over to her quiet friend. "So, did you enjoy yourself?"

"I suppose. I feel bad for Drew though."

"I'm sure he can handle himself. Besides, I think he found another interest," said Caroline with a wink.

"No, No! You have it all wrong." Devin was saying all this with a small innocent smile.

"So my eyes were lying to me when I saw you two hold hands?"

"Caroline, leave him alone. If he wants to tell you, he'll tell you later," Carmen said coming to Devin's rescue.

"Alright, but I'll be holding this against you."

Devin just rolled his eyes with a playful smile.

---the following day---

Devin followed Trevor into the library. They walked over to the non-fiction section.

"How was your weekend?" Devin asked.

"Honestly, it was a bit weird."

"Why is that?"

Trevor stopped for a book and leaned against the bookcase. "Well, our family ate together as a whole for once," he said.

"Is that not normal?"

"No, not for us. My mom usually works late at the hospital and my dad never leaves his home office," said Trevor. "And the odd part was that they didn't even attempt to talk to each other. They prefered to ask me about my life."

Devin frowned and asked, "Do you think they might have gotten into a fight?"

"I don't know and I prefer not to worry about it too much. You know?"

"Yeah," Devin said.

A short girl with brunette hair came up to Trevor and asked, "Hey Trevor, can you reach me a book on the top shelf?"

"It's not that tall. I'll be right back Devin."

Devin watched Trevor leave to who knows where the book is located. As he was searching around the library, he noticed a lonely looking boy across the room. He had his head down as if in a depressed mood. Devin felt a bit of sadness towards this kid. Especially knowing he used to be in the same place the kid is in now.

"Found it," said Trevor, interrupting Devin's concentration.

"A book about the army. What for?"

"You'll find out soon enough. Now let's get to first period before the bell rings.

"Alright students, today I will be assigning you a group project. You are to discuss to the class the history of something and how it has improved over the time," said an optimistic history teacher.

"I call the army!" yelled out Trevor.

"Very well, Trevor and, Devin, Is that correct?, will be doing their project on the army and war. Yes, you, Miss Hailey."

"Can me and Joana do ours on the history of plastic surgery?"

The whole class burst out laughing, but Hailey remained serious.

"I don't see why not," said the teacher. "I expect you all to have your partner and topic ready by tomorrow. We will discuss the instructions tomorrow as well. Any questions? ... Very well. The rest of the time is yours."

"I'm assuming this is the reason why you chose that book," said Devin.

"That and my older brother has done this project before and I can just copy everything from his." Devin gave Trevor a disapproving look. "What?"

"I think I'd rather do the project on my own than copy someone else's work," said Devin.

"Fine, we'll do it your way."

Devin looked up and smiled, "I win!"

"Yeah, whatever."

"Blue or black?"

"Ew, they both look disgusting," said Carmen.

"I'm not asking which lipstick I should use, I'm just asking what's better," said Caroline.

"Blue."

While looking through her locker mirror, Caroline said, "Mr. Rogers over here did something with Drew and he won't tell me. Trevor, could you please get Devin to tell you what happened between them?"

"That's none of my business," said Trevor.

"Are you serious? You're not even one bit curious?" she asked.

"Don't answer her. Now let's go to class," said Devin, dragging Trevor with him to their next class.

"Dude, you should have seen all those wasted girls last night. I'm sure you could have gotten with some of them. You know, to take your mind off Vicky. I probably did at least two last night. Not as good as Vicky though," said Kyle.

"I could care less," said Drew.

"Dude, do you know what being single means? You can have sex with all the girls you want to without being bitched at. Think about it. Girl after girl. And you could also hook me up with one of them. All the girls dig a guy like you."

"I think this has to do more about you getting with them than me." Drew slammed his locker shut.

Kyle sighed and said, "We really need to get you laid and away from anything to do with Vicky."

Drew gave him an angry look and left. He was tired of listening to Kyle's sex talk.

"Oh Miley, nice push up bra. Finally moving up in the world," said bitch #1, moving through the crowd of girls.

"Nice ass too," said bitch #2.

Coming up to Sophia, bitch #2, known as Sage, slapped her butt.

"Now that we got your attention," said Page (bitch #1). "I'd like to advise you to stay away from my man."

"What are you walking about?" asked Sophia.

"Don't play dumb with me. I know you've been hanging around Blake. Stay away from him. He's mine!" said an angry Page.

"Or else I get to play with you," said Sage with a wink.

The two girls left and went into the gymnasium.

"Don't worry about them. Focus on the happiness you'll be enjoying with Blake," said Daisy. "Hurry up and get changed or else we'll be late for PE."

Devin sat down against the bleachers. He knew he would be among the last few people to be called on. He hated PE. It's not that he was lazy and didn't want to do anything, he just hated, or disliked, all the people in it.

"Devin."

He looked up surprised to see that someone had called on him. There were still plenty of people left to choose from. Why pick him?

"Come on, I said your name." It was Blake. Of all people, it had to be him.

Devin quietly went over to his team and waited for the rest of the people to be grouped. Once the teams were set up, they spread to get ready for dodgeball. During this sport, if you can call it a sport, Devin would usually just pick up the balls and hand it to the other players.

The game began and balls were being thrown across the gym. A few face smashes here and there. With about one of them crying over how bad it hurt to be hit. Now 10 minutes into the game, four people remained on one side with three on the other. Devin and Blake being part of the three.

Devin passed a few balls he had been saving to Blake. Blake got three more out, but not without losing another team player. Now it was all up to Blake and Devin. Devin could tell that Blake was frustrated. He surely would have loved to have anyone but Devin left.

The last person on the other team took a risk and threw the ball as hard as he could. Blake took the chance to get him out. Before the team could celebrate, the thrown ball reached Devin and knocked him onto the ground.
