Chapter 7

The little black girl

“I'll take care of him,” I said.

“Are you going to make someone stab him?” Micki stated.

“Magic isn't the only way to get what you want,” I said.

I got up off the table and headed towards him. He seemed to be almost on edge. I wondered if he noticed the three girls studying me from behind as I approached him. If he did notice them he didn't take any notice really. He was looking me dead in my eyes as I approached him. He had this coldness in him when I approached him. It was this awkwardness.

Truth was I had been waiting to approach him since he put that thing in my drink.

“Are you enjoying your stay here Mr. Ferris?” I asked Orion.

He gave me a halfway look.

“Funny I thought you wanted me gone.”

“I think you and I may have just gotten off on the wrong foot. Maybe some sort of misunderstanding,” I said.

He looked at me with this suspicious look. He was definitely on edge. It was interesting to know that I could have that effect on someone though. It was interesting to know that I could put him on edge like this. If only he knew the trouble we all had been going through to get him off this island, he'd probably be a lot more cocky. Now he was just...suspicious.

“You look just like your brother,” he stated.

It was a coldness.

“I thought you said you didn't know my brother,” I said.

He laughed, “I don't. Not intimately. I knew him when we were kids. We used to sit under old lady Fatima's rocking chair. I always thought he was very handsome even then. Of course I never said anything.”

“I don't remember you.”

“Your parents never brought you around. They said you had a blackness inside of you. It supposedly scared the old lady. Isn't that funny? An old lady being scared of a kid...I wonder why.

I shook my head. It made me uncomfortable talking about my parents. It made me uncomfortable talking about the past when they'd always choose my twin brother for everything. They'd always leave me home alone while they showed him off. This was just another example of that.

“Why don't we stop fucking around?” I said.

He laughed strangly.

“The game was just getting fun.”

“You know who I am and I know who you are,” I stated, “So let's just cut it out. I want you gone and it's your best interest that you get gone as well. So how about we cut a deal that'll benefit both of us.”

He raised an eyebrow. It was one of those eyebrows that made me think he may not be as interested as he was letting on.

“What deal is that?” he asked halfway not even listening.

“How much do you want?”

“Excuse me?”

“How much do you want to disappear off this island and never come back,” I stated.

I didn't know how much I had to be honest with you but I'd have to borrow some from the business account. I had to make this guy disappear. It wasn't good to have him here. He didn't belong here.

“I thought you were here to ask me if I killed your brother,” he said.

It was a strange question.

“I thought I was on the island to figure that out too,” I stated and shook my head, “Funny thing is I found other reasons to stick around. So I'd like you to take your skeletons and get the fuck out of here.”

“And what if I refuse?” he asked.

Orion was getting cocky all of a sudden. He had a smile that spread across his cheeks.

“You don't want to know...” I said.

“Maybe you'll use your little spell on me and get someone to attack me against their will. They won't even get close though...but you can try. Maybe one of those three bitches behind you will try to use old school magic and get a spirit to curse me. The spirits won't even listen though. They have been trying trust me and each time it's failed.”

When I first met him Orion was playing this innocent guy who had no idea what was going on. That was all bullshit. He knew about my magic. He knew about the three Graces. He knew what each of us were trying to do.
“What the fuck do you want?” I asked, “Why the fuck are you here?”
He shrugged, “I kind of wanted another drink of wine right now...as for the long run. Why don't you hold your breath. You'll find out soon.”

I walked away. I felt defeated again. This man was a hell of a good actor. We hadn't even known who he was but he knew things about us.

I made my way back to the table with the three Graces. I sat at the table and seemed a clearly disturbed by it all. I couldn't believe that I had allowed this guy to ruin my night like this.

“How'd talking work for you?” Micki asked, shaking her head.

“He knows everything about us,” I told them.

Dore was still looking back at him, “He's staring over here. He has these sick fucking eyes. It's like the devil's eyes or something.”
I had to admit I was scared to even look back. There was something else about Orion that just wasn't right. I couldn't put my hand on it but he freaked me out. I had to admit. The fact that he was able to act so well kind of turned me into a whimpering little kid. He had been playing us this entire time.

“You ready to tell us who his little lover is?” Micki stated.

I shook my head, “I don't know...”

She rolled her eyes, “You gonna wait until he picks us all off one at a time before telling me huh?”

“I'll figure something out,” I said.

Shi Shi was panicking as she looked over at me, “How can you be so calm? This guy killed your brother and is hanging around your party like it's a regular tailgate party. Why aren't you panicking?”
She was making it worse.

“Shut up Shi Shi...we don't panic,” Micki stated, “We act...don't we Genesis?”

Surprisingly Shi Shi shut up as well. I looked down at my palms. I felt kind of useless to tell you the truth. I was out of my league here. I was new to this. All this magic and bullshit like that wasn't my cup of tea. I had no idea why Orion was here and I seemed out my league even trying to find out why he was here.

“Don't we Genesis?” Micki asked again this time more sternly.

“I'll figure it out,” I stated.

“While you wait to figure it out something he'll get rid of the rest of us,” Micki stated, “I know what we have to do. We have to call on the little black girl.”

I was confused, “The what?”

Shi Shi's face got white, “Micki...no...”

“What's the little black girl?” I asked.

Dore got quiet, “We don't know for sure what's going on. We haven't tried anything. I'll get rid of Orion. We don't have to go that route.”

“How the hell are you going to stop him?” Micki asked.

“Genesis was going to show me how to use his power...”

Micki laughed hard.

“He has no idea how to use it himself, idiot. You have to be born with those abilities,” Micki replied.

“Wait, no he'll show me,” Dore stated.

I shook my head, “Dore I told you I wasn't sure how it worked. You were hearing what you wanted to hear.”
“You don't know what to do with it. I DO,” Dore replied.

She was seeming...extreme. For a moment I could have sworn she was Shi Shi by how she was acting. Micki found her hilarious. I had told Dore that I didn't know but she kept pushing me to show her how to use coercion. It wasn't like I was lying to her. Was I?

I tried all of a sudden, “You just look at someone and it happens.”
Dore crossed her arms, “I want the secret. Don't play stupid with me!”
“He doesn't know,” Micki stated.

“Fine,” Dore said, shaking her head, “Let's go call the little black girl.”
“We'll go to the bathroom.”

Micki started towards the bathroom and Dore followed her. Shi Shi looked like she was hesitating. Me turning Dore down was what had turned her. Was power the only thing that mattered to these girls. Dore had been somewhat against this 'little black girl' before but now she was all for it.

I gave Shi Shi a look.

“What is the little black girl Shi Shi?”

“It's a spirit that witches can bring into the world,” Shi Shi told me, “I guess they want to use it against Orion.”

“Micki said that the spirits wouldn't hurt Orion.”

“This particular spirit doesn't care too much about the rules. She is...dangerous...unpredictable. You should have just told them who he loved Genesis. It would have been a lot easier than this. This is...this is going to be bad...”

“Stop them.”

“I can't,” she told me, “We stick together in this coven. I'll help them no...even if we are calling on the devil himself. Word of advice those Genesis...there is no telling what this spell is going to do once we cast it. You like Jakoby. I can tell...you should get him out of here. Oh and if you see Bobby, can you tell him to go home too. Please?”

“Tell him to go home? Are you serious?”

“Yeah. If I were you I'd probably get as far away from this resort as possible until the spell is over. Micki isn't going to lose to Orion but I had no idea she would go to this far of an extreme.”
Shi Shi was scared.

She was shaking in her voice actually but she walked away. She was going to the bathroom with the other girls. I figured that was where they were casting their spell. I was uneasy standing there looking at them. It felt almost as though something strange was going on.

I was way out of my head here.

I found myself avoiding the bathroom all together. There was no way I was joining them in that bathroom. The way Shi Shi looked I knew that I had to get the hell out of this party.

I had to find Jakoby. I had to warn him to get out of this party. I had no idea what the hell was about to go down in that bathroom with those three bat crazy witches but I knew I didn't want to be ANYWHERE around when it happened. The only person I cared about was Jakoby. There was no way I was going to have him around. I ran through the party and luckily I ran into Bobby.

“Bobby, have you seen Jakoby?” I asked.

Bobby didn't seem to friendly when I caught up to him. I couldn't believe he was still talking.

“I told my pastor about you,” Bobby stated.

“What?”

“I told my pastor about you and your evil ways. It's not too late to repent. I can take you to church. You can leave you ways of witchcraft behind and turn to the one true God. We can save you. He wanted me to invite you. My congregation wanted to turn you...into the light...”

“Bobby I don't have time for this shit. Where is Jakoby? You guys went to get the wine together...”

“Jakoby isn't safe with you. I warned him.”

“You did what?”

Did this fucking asshole just do what I thought he did? He was getting Jakoby involved in this? I could feel myself getting really pissed off at him at this moment and that wasn't something that I felt was safe to happen.

“I told him that you were possessed by the devil. We need to do an exorcism on you before it's too late. We need to save your soul.”
“Bobby...you're tripping. Something bad is about to happen and Shi Shi wants me to tell you to go home.”

“Something bad?” he asked.

Bobby's eyes got real wide. For a minute I was really starting to worry about this guy. He looked bat-shit crazy! He leaned into me pushing me up against the wall. Luckily everyone in the party was too busy to notice the look in his eyes and put too much attention on us.

“I'm warning you...if you care about Shi Shi get the fuck out of here,” I stated, “Something bad is about to happen.”
“Are you threatening me?”
“Are you FUCKING stupid?” I asked shaking my head in disbelief, “I'm warning you...oh my god...look at outside.”
There looked like there was some sort of storm brewing outside. This wasn't a normal storm. The night had been calm and all of a sudden it was raining heavily. The wind was banging up against the glass doors that lead out to the side patio. The clear glass walls in the dining hall shows palm trees swaying completely on axis. The water from the beach was splashing all the back here.

It was like nature was going crazy all of a sudden outside.

“You are doing this?” Bobby stated.

“Get off of me.”

“What did you do to Shi Shi? What the hell did you do to her?”

He was panicking. He was actually pulling me tight on the collar. With the storm brewing outside I became desperate. I was desperate as fuck. I had to find Jakoby. I didn't have time to be sitting around dealing with Bobby and his crazy obsession with witchraft.

“Are you a fucking a idiot?” I asked shaking my head, “Clearly you lived with that girl. Did you see old pictures of her? She was a troll. All of a sudden she's a drop dead beauty. Stuff like that doesn't happen normally. You want to know who is doing this? Why don't you ask Shi Shi? Whatever I am...your girlfriend is too.”

He dropped me.

It was almost like he had something on his mind at that moment. Maybe 1+1 was starting to add up to him finally and he was remembering all the weird times he probably had with Shi Shi. He was probably remembering now how Shi Shi could make things happent hat didn't make sense. It was starting to click.

Maybe now he would realize that we weren't all that bad since he actually had fallen in love with one of them. Whatever realization Bobby came to was hitting him like a ton of bricks. It was enough to distract him so that I could get away.

“Everyone PARTIES OVER!” I screamed out at the top of my lungs.

People were looking at me as though I had two heads or something. It was almost like they didn't even care what was going on.

The lights began to flicker.

Did they not see that shit?

“Mr. Bah!”

I turned to see Timmy. He was the hot little valet that I had made my man slave to follow Jakoby the one day. He walked up to me and was actually smiling. Timmy was a handsome guy but seemed kind of young. He had to be maybe 18 or 19 at the oldest.

“Timmy,” I said.

“You know my name,” he said blushing.

I forgot that I had made him tell me his name when he was under my influence and then had made him forget it.

“I know everyone's name,” I stated shaking my head lying.

“Listen I've been seeing you around a lot lately,” Timmy stated smiling, “I know that we don't really know each other like that but for some reason I can't get you out of my head. It's almost like...like you put a spell on me or something.”
Was he serious right now?
“Timmy now's not a good time. I'm looking for someone.”

Was Timmy a little drunk? He had gotten dressed up for the party actually and I had to admit he cleaned up well. I remembered a time when I would have jumped at a chance of taking advantage of a young, idiot sexy boy that had a crush on me. Now wasn't the time though.

“Listen,” Timmy stated, “I just want a shot. I just want to get to know you. Maybe take you on a date.”
“You've got to be kidding me.”

“I know I'm just the valet,” Timmy said, “I know I can't do much for you but I'm a good guy.”

“You're way too young Timmy and this isn't the time to talk about this,” I said shaking my head, “Have you seen Jakoby?”

“That's the one you like huh?” Timmy asked.

I rolled my eyes.

Was I so transparent to everyone?
“That's none of your business Timmy. Have you seen Jakoby or not?” I asked.

“He's in the chapel. He's talking to some guy...a guest.”

“Where's the chapel?”

“Go out that way and make a right,” Timmy said pointing.

“Thanks Timmy.”

“Listen...”

“Not now Timmy,” I said shaking my head, “But do me a favor, get everyone out of this party. Tell them party is over. Ok? Got me?”

He looked confused, “Oh...ok...”

I found myself walking to the chapel. I guess the local resorts all had a chapel. I hadn't really known much about it. It was a small version of a church that people usually went to pray. It had little pews in it and a huge cross in the front.

When I walked in the chapel I realized the horned god outside. No matter how much the five families tried to hide it there were the pagan symobolism everywhere. It was almost like they built this whole resort around it. Even in a Christian chapel there was was a Wiccan god. I wondered what the humans would do if they knew that. That is what made people like Bobby so dangerous.

Between the isles I saw Jakoby and Orion sitting there. Orion had no idea what was coming for him. He had no fucking idea.

It was just as I feared too. Jakoby was with Orion...

This was NOT the place for him to be.

“Gene,” Jakoby stated, “I didn't see you walk in.”

He had this look in his eyes that made him look like he was Bambi caught in headlights. I sighed a little with jealousy as I had realized Jakoby had his arm over Orion but had jerked it away as soon as I had walked in. Jakoby had even stood up at that point.

“I was looking for you,” I told Jakoby.

“I'm sorry, I was just catching up with Orion,” Jakoby stated shaking his head, “We hadn't seen each other in such a long time.”
“You looked hella comfortable,” I stated shaking my head, “Thought he was dangeorus?”

Orion laughed, “You told him I was dangerous?”

Jakoby looked like he was caught in a web or something at the time. He was looking back and forth between Orion and I. He looked so uncomfortable.

“Listen...I can explain,” Jakoby stated.

“Now's not the time,” I said cutting him off, “Jakoby it's storming outside. I think it's best you head up to your room. You want to be comfortable in case we lose power.”

“Storming?” Jakoby asked looking confused, “The weatherman said it was all clear skies today.”
“Crazy tropical storms,” I said, “You know how it is.”

“I'm sure Jakoby will be safe here with me,” Orion stated, “Regardless of how dangerous he told you I was. It never is to Jakoby.”

This fucking asshole. I just couldn't wait to see his face when the three Graces were done with his ass. The only thing is I didn't want Jakoby anywhere near him when it happened. I wanted him far away.

Jakoby looked nervous as hell, “Listen, Gene I wanted to tell you something.”

“Can we talk about this another time? Jakoby can you come with me, I have something I want to show you...”

God knows how I would get him away. I didn't know how much time I had left. I had to get him to safety! I HAD to get Jakoby away from Orion.

“No...now,” Jakoby stated, “Look Gene, me and Orion...we weren't old friends. When I told you he was dangerous I was just using that as a front so that I could hide my secret. See Gene, I'm...damn...I'm...”

“He's gay and he's in love with me,” Orion stated.

Jakoby lowered his head.

Love.

“Is it true?” I asked.

Jakoby raised his head, “Yes I'm gay. I've been gay my whole life. I just never acted on it. I wasn't sure how... I was lost...”

“No. Is it true that you love him?” I asked.

My heart got so heavy. For a second I had to admit I fucking forgot what I was here for. I was fucking sick to my stomach. All I could think about was the L word had been dropped. Jakoby was here now looking at him. What about the chemistry and that him and I had? Was that nothing? Did that not mean anything at all.

Orion crossed his arms, “Jakoby, he asked you a question. Are you in love with me or not?”

Jakoby still wasn't answering. He was just looking down.

“You can tell me,” I stated, “I won't be mad.”

“Why would you be mad?” Orion asked, “Jakoby we were just talking about this. We were just talking about how we were going to start over. Why all of a sudden this guy walks into the room and cat got your tongue?”
“Orion calm down,” Jakoby said, “I just...I don't know how I feel right now.”
“Why? You just said that you were thinking about getting back with me.”

“Things are different now,” Jakoby stated.

“A few minutes ago they were the SAME!” Orion said clearly getting a little bit of an attitude, “What the fuck does Gene walking in change your mind about what we JUST talked about? Is there something I should know about?”

“No...of course not,” Jakoby stated.

The lights were flickering in the chapel. As they argued back and forth I could feel something coming. I looked back at the entrance of the chapel.

I didn't see anything but there was this presence.

I didn't know how to describe it. It was dark and it was horrifying. It was coming closer and closer. My heart was beating faster and faster. It was hard to describe the feeling. It was like watching a horror movie when all of a sudden the person is just walking down a dark hallway. All of a sudden the music in the scene just seems to change. All of a sudden you know something horrible is about to happen.

That was what I was feeling right now.

“Jakoby, get the fuck out of here please,” I said.

“What...” Jakoby said.

Jakoby and Orion were completely enthralled in their argument right now. Didn't they notice the cold chilling gust of wind flow through the chapel. The wind made the candles that were lined up against the walls of the chapel go completely out.

Orion was being pushy as hell, “Jakoby you chose now...are you going to be with me or not? Do you love me...or not.”
Jakoby was standing there and he looked like hew as really going through it. I didn't know what it was that he was thinking about so strongly but hell I couldn't do this anymore. I couldn't sit around and have this melodramatic conversation while he was in danger.

I had to do what I had to do.

I had do what I said I would never do.

I ran up to Jakoby and looked him in the eyes, “Do as I say. Get the hell out of this room and start running...don't stop running until you are in your room and underneath your comforters. Do you hear me?”

Orion grabbed me and pulled me away from Jakoby hard.

Orion threw me on the ground.

“I know you just didn't do what I think you just did,” Orion told me.

It was too late though. Jakoby was already under my spell. Jakoby started to run down the hall like I told him and just when he was about to get to the exit the doors just closed.

They had closed all of a sudden.

A strong gust had flown into the room sending Jakoby flying across the room.

“JAKOBY!”

It was useless though to call out for him. It wasn't me who had done it though. It was actually Orion that had called out for Jakoby. Jakoby's body was tossed across the room by the wind like a rag doll and he slammed hard onto the wall. I could see him laying there lifeless.

I started to panic as I saw him laying there.

That was when I saw her.

The little black girl.

“Shit I was too late,” I said.

“You idiots!” Orion said.

He could see the little black girl too. I ran over to Jakoby. He was bleeding from his head. It looked kind of serious. Fuck.

“He's breathing but it's light...” I said shaking my head, “I was trying to get him out. I was trying to get him out before she came.”

“You idiots don't know what the fuck you just did,” Orion said, “That is little black girl!”

He was right about one thing. I had no idea what we did. The little black girl was standing in front of us. She look exactly how you would have imagined. A little black girl that just appeared out of no where. She was holding a doll. It wasn't an american doll but some sort of voodoo doll. The little girl was drenched in water...or at least I thought it was water. Her body however was transparent. It was almost like you could see right through her!

Was I seeing things?
I was breathing heavy but by the way Orion was breathing I knew that I wans't seeing thigns.

The little black girl thing was not something that I knew about. My family kept me away from magic.

I was completely lost at what she was or how dangerous she was. I had an idea that I was about to find out.
