Dear Journal,
I met Devin through Paige last year, when he first started attending our high school. Paige instantly fell for him, but she's been waiting for him to ask her out. She is a bit old fashioned. Today, Devin called up for some advice. He wants to ask her out finally, but he's scared that she'll say no. I didn't want to betray the trust that Paige has in me, so I very carefully thought my words through.
"Devin, you've got to trust me, when I say that I don't think she'll turn you down."
"Well, if you think that she'll say yes, then I'll go with that."
"Would you be willing to meet us up at North Side Books? I want to ask her out there."
"Umm... sure, it will give me a chance to buy some books that I've been wanting to get."
"Bye dude!"
I don't get Devin or Paige at all. Why would they hang out with someone all the time and not ask them out? Hmmm... guess I could ask the same thing about Scottie and me. Paige has always trusted me with everything. I hope she doesn't get hurt when she finds out that I've said something to Devin about her liking him. Oh crap, I don't know when to meet them up there. I can call Devin tomorrow. Night all!

Now, I need to get through my homework before heading out to North side. I love finishing up my work early. It leaves me free to enjoy the night. I have to remember to call Devin after this work gets done. Excuse me while I finish my math homework!
Okay, I'm back... time to call Devin:
"Hey what's up?"
"Forgot to ask you when we are meeting up?"
"I told Paige around 11:00 so in about a half hour. Is that okay with you?"
I glanced down at my watch and realized that I needed to head out if I was going to be there on time.
"Devin, I'm going to have to go if I'm going to be there at 11:00."
"K... but if we aren't there at 11:00, do your shopping and then meet us in the café."
"Okay, Devin. I'm gone!"
Well, I need to run catch you later!
Later at the bookstore:
Man, I love coming to Northside Books. I just have to watch how much I spend here. Devin is a true friend. He knows that I couldn't come to a bookstore and not walk away without a few books. Well, I grabbed a few books, mostly books on poetry and one book on how to get published. I also grabbed one book of crossword puzzles. Now, I'm sitting in the café waiting for the lovebirds. Going to stop writing in here and work on some of the crossword puzzles.
I got through half of one of the puzzles when Devin showed up. I stood up and waved at him. I hate the feeling of butterflies in the stomach, and right now he was nervous, I know. I'm guessing Devin has butterflies.
"Nervous dude?"
"I'm extremely nervous. Even though I know it's just Paige."
I know a little bit of what he's saying. There are times when I get nervous around Scottie. I can tell the butterflies are eating at him. His body is constantly moving. If it's not his fingers it's his eyes.
"I'm going to grab some books really quick and I'll be right back. Don't let her leave before I get back."
"Sounds good, man!"
There is another reason, why I love the bookstore. It's full of hot guys.
I hate being around hot guys because I can't flirt with them. I want to! Almost wish that I was free to do more than just look. Is that a bad thought for a guy in my situation? I hope not, but no one can read my thoughts, I'm not going to get too upset about it. Guess I'll get back to my crossword puzzle.
I managed to complete the crossword puzzle in about ten minutes. Pretty good for a jock huh? It wasn't long until I was joined by both Devin and Paige. They came to the table together. When Devin sat down in his chair, he realized his mistake and quickly got up to sit Paige down. I've never seen a guy my age do that for a girl. Wonder if guys do that for other guys? Guess, I'll never know. Then it happens, Devin looks at Paige right in the eyes.
"Paige, will you be my girlfriend?"
I could see the smile start to form in her soul before it emerged on her smile.
"Devin, I've been waiting for you ask me since I met you! Yeah, I'll be your girlfriend."
Out of the corner of my eye, I glimpsed a hot guy walk by.
I saw that hot guy out of the corner of my eye. Didn't want to stop looking at him, but I was afraid of Devin or Paige seeing me. Someday, when I come out to them, it won't matter, but for now it matters. So, bye-bye cute guy, I have to take my eyes off of you at least for now. Wonder if that hottie was gay? More than likely, he's not gay.
"Hey guys, it's late, I need to get home because of church tomorrow. I'll catch you later!"
I got up and walked out to the car.
The whole way home, I kept thinking of that cute guy and how I glanced at him. It was stupid, I know, but I couldn't get my mind off him. Maybe it was stupid of me to have stolen the glance, but isn't that what guys do? If straight guys can check out girls, then I should be able to check out guys. It's only fair, right? Can't help but wonder if Devin and Paige saw me. Paige already thinks that something is going on with me. I don't need her pressing anymore for information.
Night all
