Three Weeks Sober

Chapter Four

Love and Jealousy

The next day, I'm standing in front of the bathroom mirror putting on black eyeliner, getting ready for school. When I finish with the eyeliner I put it back in the drawer and pull my Nine Inch Nails hoodie on. Suddenly I hear a loud knock on the bathroom door. "Jamie, hurry the fuck up!" Jennay shouts.

I roll my eyes; my sister annoys the hell out of me. I comb my black hair in front of my eyes using my fingers, then open the door and step out. "What?" I say as Jennay looks at me with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Do you have to take so fucking long?" she snaps.

I look down at my watch. "I was in there for ten minutes." I answer raising an eyebrow.

"Whatever." She rolls her eyes and brushes past me.

I roll my eyes in return as I tug on the earring in my right ear. I walk into the front room and see my mom sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. She looks up at me and smiles. "Good morning honey."

"Morning. Where's dad?" I ask walking into the kitchen.

"He got called in early." She answers staring down into her coffee.

"Should have figured." I shake my head in disapproval as I grab a piece of toast off a plate in the center of the table.

"Jamie... I know you're upset about your father always working, but honey, that's his job." She says trying to sound comforting.

"Whatever. I don't care anymore." I answer a little upset. I pick up my messenger bag by the door and storm out of the house, biting into my toast. I walk down to the corner of the block at wait for the bus. Right now I just feel the sudden urge to hit something, hoping it'll get rid of some of my frustration -- but of course, I know better than to go and do something stupid like that.

When the bus arrives, I get on and sit in the back as usual. I lean my head against the back of the seat, closing my eyes briefly trying to calm myself down before I snap. "Hey Jamie." I hear a voice from next to me say.

I open my eyes to find Angie standing by the seat smiling at me. "Oh, hey." I answer moving my bag so she can sit down.

She smiles and takes the seat. "Um... Friday some friends and I are gonna hang out after school... and I was wondering if you wanted to join?" she asks brushing back her blonde hair.

I can tell she's blushing even though she won't make eye contact with me. "That's depends." I answer.

She looks at me curiously. "What do you mean?" she asks tilting her head to the side.

"I mean, I'll go if this isn't considered a date." I answer.

"Oh, of course not." Angie says letting out a soft giggle.

"Alright, because you do know I'm gay. Right?" my second day here in a new town and I'm already coming out to people -- good for me.

"I kinda figured as much." She looks at me and smiles.

"Really?" I ask. Do I make it that fucking obvious?

"Yeah really. You're too cute to be straight." The bus comes to a stop and Angie stands up. "So are you in for Friday?"

I'm not really sure how to react to that, so instead I just nod and tell her that I'm in for Friday. I stand up and get off the bus. I guess my mom would be proud to know that I'm beginning to be a little more social. I go straight to my first period class, even though I still have 10 minutes before the bell rings.

"So... yeah, prom was nothing like I thought it would be like, it was boring as hell and I hated every minute of it." Kevin says as we walk towards the student parking lot, I'm not really listening to him, but I'm pretty damn good at pretending to. "Are you even listening to me?"

"Hmm.... What? Oh yeah, sure." I answer walking through the gate that separates the parking lot from the campus.

"What's up? Is something bothering you?" Kevin asks worriedly.

I look at him and shake my head, letting out a heavy sigh. "No, everything's fine." I say leaning up against the gate and stare up at the sky.

"Does it have anything to do with a certain guy... hmm...let's say... Preiston?" he asks taking a cigarette out of his pocket.

"No, everything's fine with Preiston." I answer. "I don't know, I've just been in a weird mood all day."

"You know I don't like him."

"Who?" I ask looking at Kevin as he lights the cigarette.

He takes a drag off the cigarette. "Preiston, I don't like him." He answers.

"What? Why?" I cross my arms over my chest, getting a bit defensive. What's not to like about Preiston?

"I dunno, I just don't trust him."

I look at him in disbelief. "What do you mean you don't trust him? You were the one who encouraged me to go out with him. Now all of a sudden you don't trust him?" I can hear the anger rising in my voice.

He hesitates for a moment than throws the cigarette on the floor. "We don't hang out as much anymore because you're always with him."

"He's my boyfriend Kevin, what do you want me to do? Ignore him?" I ask angrily.

Kevin tugs at a strand of his hair and looks down at the floor. "Like you're doing to me?" he snaps.

"Oh my god, I do not ignore you." I say rolling my eyes. A moment later a black mustang pulls up next to us and the passenger window rolls down.

"Hey babe." Preiston says with a smile.

I look at Kevin and let out a soft sigh. "I have to go." I say taking a step towards my boyfriend's car.

"Yeah, you always do." He says coldly.

I roll my eyes and keep walking; I'm in no mood to deal with him right now. I open the passenger car door and get in. Preiston looks at me and places his hand gently on my knee. "Are you okay? You seem tense."

"I'm fine." I answer pulling my seat belt on and rolling up the window.

"Okay." He says pulling out of the parking lot. I let out a heavy sigh and lean into the seat then turn to look at Preiston. I don't know what's Kevin's problem, why does he have such a problem with me being with Preiston?

When we get to Preiston's apartment, I sit down on the edge of the bed while he stands in front of his closet trying to find something to change into. I watch him take off his work shirt and pull on a dark blue button down shirt. He looks at me and smiles as he starts walking towards the bed. "What?" he asks as I lean back against the head board.

"Nothing." I answer, which is a lie. I can't help but stare at his abs, which are perfectly toned.

He buttons the middle button of his shirt and places one hand on top of the headboard leaning over me. "Liar." He whispers leaning over and kissing me softly on the lips. I can't help but smile; he just has that affect on me. I wrap my arms around his neck as I kiss him back, pulling him closer to me. My heart pounds hard against my chest as Preiston lays me back on the bed and pins my hands down on the mattress as he bits at my lip ring. He broke the kiss, pulling away and looking deep into my eyes before kissing me again, this time more intensely. My breathing became labored and every so often I had to pull away from him to catch my breath. My hands slowly moved down his back, feeling the soft material of his shirt as I feel his lips on mine. "Jamie..." he whispers softly in my ear as his hands move down to my hips. I moan softly into his mouth as my hands find their way to the front of his shirt and unbutton the one button. He pulls away slightly to remove his shirt, but then he moves his hand to the back of my head and pulls me back towards him.

I sit up slightly, pulling Preiston closer to me as I take my shirt off and toss it aside. He kisses me again, his tongue teasingly tracing my bottom lip as his hands move slowly down my chest. I let out a soft moan as I feel him press hard against me. My head feels cloudy, like I can't think -- the only thing I can't concentrate on is what's happening. He kisses my collar bone and smiles softly as he starts fighting with my belt. I kiss him again, soft and lovingly as I slide my hands down his strong arms. I feel his hand slowly slide down my pants and without thinking I grab his hand to stop him.

Preiston stops and looks down at me. "What's wrong?" he asks breathlessly.

I take a deep breath trying to catch my breath as well as I sit up. "I... not yet... please..." I say leaning my head against his shoulder.

I hear him let out a soft sigh as he wraps his arms around me. "Okay..." he whispers kissing me on the forehead. "I don't want to rush you."

I look up into his blue eyes and kiss him softly. I'm so lucky to have someone who cares so much about me. "I love you." I say in almost a whisper.

" I love you too Jamie."
