Chapter 4

I woke up the next morning feeling content, "Rise and shine sleeping beauty," Callum said from across

the room. "It's too early for me to respond with a witticism." "Not a morning person, I see."

"I detest mornings," I said. "Shower. Get dressed. We're going out for breakfast."

"I don't think so, it's too early and besides in the holidays my first meal of the day is lunch." As I said

before, I don't do mornings.

"Well I just wanted us to get to know each other better," he said. "Can't we get to know each other at

three in the afternoon?!" "No" he said flatly, "Go and shower."

"I haven't even said yes yet," I protested. "I knew you were going to, you're too nice." "You don't even

know me," I said. "No, but you're easy to figure out."

"Whatever," I said while rummaging through my closet for an outfit to wear. I eventually picked a simple

white V-neck T-shirt; short black denim shorts and I chose to wear my grey Chucks with my outfit. I took

my outfit to the bathroom, where I took a quick shower, changed into my clothes and finally exited the

bathroom. I quickly grabbed my Ray-Ban sunglasses and my bands. "Let's go," I said. "Finally!" he groaned. "Shut up, I didn't even take that long," I grumbled. I noticed Callum looked ridiculously hot in a grey T-shirt that didn't leave much to the imagination, and skinny teal chinos; something is seriously wrong with this guy, I thought, maybe he was kidnapped and experimented by mad Guatemalan scientists who altered his DNA to make him like one of the most perfect male specimens in the world.

We walked through the house and I remarked on the elegant mahogany panelling and finishes, the tapestries along the long hallway and the pictures of my soon-to-be dorm mates' at all sorts of events. I was looking at these pictures when I saw a picture of the school rugby team; I noticed Callum was in it and the caption of all the players' names listed him as captain. I kept this little nugget of information for future reference, knowledge was power after all. I wasn't going to use the information for nefarious means; I just had an insatiable curiosity. We finally arrived outside and I saw a car in the parking Iot I hadn't noticed before. It was a Mercedes-Benz G500. "OMG!!" I shrieked and I ran towards it like the car groupie I am. "Are you taking me to breakfast in this?" I asked in wonder. I looked at Callum, and saw he was laughing at me. I waited for his laughter to subside, which took quite a while might I add, and he told me we were indeed going to breakfast in his Merc. "Do you even know what car you're driving?" I asked.

"Ummm..." he moved to check the model at the back of the car. "No peeking." I said sternly. "It's a Mercedes-Benz G-something," he said confidently. I chuckled, "Just drive."

"Aye-aye captain," he said while saluting.

"It's too early for you to patronise me," I grumbled, he smirked at this.

We got into his car, and I proceeded to tell him how cool his car really was. "I didn't understand a single thing you just said," he said while grinning, "you look so cute while you talk about cars." he said with a lopsided grin. I blushed furiously, "you're hopeless, Callum," I said.

We arrived in town in a record thirteen minutes, it took twenty minutes to get to town if you were driving like a sane person, I learned that Callum drove like a psychopath. "Do you have to drive like a maniac?! I'd rather walk than have to fear for my life every time we turn a corner!"

"I don't drive that fast," he cried "Besides stopping at traffic lights you haven't gone lower than 90!" "Don't get your Calvin Klein's in a twist, I'll drive slower, okay?" he said with a smirk. "Thank you, how do you know I'm wearing Calvin Klein's anyways?" "I noticed you taking them to the bathroom, before you went to shower." "You perv," I said, "Not a pervert Alistair, just observant." "Whatever pervert," I said with a small grin. He said nothing, but I noticed that he had a faint smile on his face.

I didn't really get to see the town the time Russell drove through to drop me off at the Academy, so I took time to appreciate it this time around. Callum parked the car on the side of Main Street. Main Street was the street in the middle of town, it had all the stores the residents of the town needed to survive and some they didn't. Callum led me to a café around the corner from where we parked the car. We walked into the café, "Cal!" a beautiful middle aged woman called. "Hey Maggie," he replied. She gave him what seemed to be a bone-crushing hug and examined him thoroughly, "You're so skinny! Have they been feeding you properly at that school of yours? How are you going to be ready for the rugby season when you're this skinny?"

"Maggie!" he groaned. "Yes I have been eating properly, if I ate the way you wanted me to, I'd be 200 kilograms." He said wryly. "Oh shut it, you kids are so cheeky these days. Oh, where are my manners, I'm Margaret but everyone calls me Maggie, I own the café." She said referring to me. "Hi Maggie, I'm Alistair, Callum's roommate." I introduced myself while extending my hand; she ignored it and gave me a hug as well. "You haven't brought anyone here since Emma." At the mention of Emma's name, a sad look flashed across Callum's face, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared and left me wondering who she was, to have such an effect on him. "Emma left," he said harshly. "Oh dear, I'm so sorry," "Yeah well can we have a table for two please Mags."

"Sure, you two can sit over there," she gestured towards a booth situated by the window overlooking the street. We got seated and proceeded to order our breakfast, I ordered the house special, which was the blueberry pancakes, with a mocha freezocino. As we were waiting for waiting for our breakfast, "So captain of the rugby team huh?" I inquired. "How'd you know I was the captain, I don't remember mentioning it to you?" he asked with a quizzical look on his face. "Saw the picture while we were walking through the house," I explained. "So how do feel now that you know you're rooming with the captain of the rugby team?" he asked with a cocky look on his face. "So..." he said, letting the o trail off, "how did you come out the closet?"

His question threw me off guard; I was silent for a few seconds, "It was kind of a difficult time for me, I was 15 or so, and I was confused for a long time, but I realised that if I didn't come out I wouldn't be really, truly happy. So I told my mom first, she said she was looking forward to being mean to my future wife but she was totally fine with as long as I adopt lots of kids when I'm older. I then told my little sister," Callum smirked at this. It seemed to be his default facial expression, I thought wryly. "who said she knew all along and was surprised it took me that long to come out. After I told my family, I came out to my friends, now pretty much everyone knows."

"So a guy like you must have a girlfriend," I said.

"A guy like me?" he asked.

"Do you really need me to spell it out for you?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," he said, feigning innocence.

"You're really attractive; I'm surprised you don't have girls chasing after you, wanting to have your babies."

He raised his eyebrows at this; I blushed at what I had just said. "I don't do girlfriends nor do I do relationships," he replied casually. "Why?" I asked. "Are you interested, Alistair?" "No, no, I'm just getting to know you." "Relationships are messy," he stated mysteriously. "A little birdy told me you're quite the player," I said with a little smirk of my own this time. "I've had my fair share of girls in the past," he said with a sly smile. Our breakfast arrived and we ate with relish, appreciating our food and each other's company. "The waitress was eye-raping you." I stated. "That's Cathy, I've slept with her a couple times," he said nonchalantly, while looking at me, it's like he's trying to gauge my expression, I wonder why, I thought. "Hmmm, she is quite beautiful."

I finished my delicious breakfast, I must come here again, these pancakes just gave me a foodgasm, I thought to myself, and sat sipping on my now defrosted freezocino. Callum was currently in the bathroom. I sat lost in thought, when I felt the table vibrating. It was Callum's phone vibrating, it was his father calling. It might be important, I thought to myself. I answered the phone, "Hello, Callum's phone," I said politely. I was met with the sound of man shouting at me in rapid French, when I realised he was shouting at a woman named Lola. I reverted to my native language and said, "Pardonnez-moi monsieur, c'est Alistair, l'ami de Callum." I informed him that Callum was in the bathroom. "Sorry for the shouting earlier, my new secretary is an idiot."

"Ha, none of Callum's friends speak such good French." "Thank you very much sir, I'm actually his new roommate."

"Sorry for the shouting earlier, my new secretary is an idiot," he said, he had a stern kind of voice, as if he was used to giving orders. "Shall I tell him to call you back or can I give him a message?" I asked politely. "No, I just wanted to tell him that Maurice, the housekeeper of our chateau in France has had a mild stroke and will be in hospital for a few days, so I wanted to tell Callum that he needs to go to France for a few days to take care of the house, you boys are still on holiday so it shouldn't be that big a deal," he said. "How would you like to go with him?" his father asked. "Ummm sir I'm not sure Callum would approve, seeing as I just recently met him and all," I said hesitantly. "Nonsense, you seem like a decent boy with a good head on his shoulders, and you and Callum can get to know each other better. I forgot to mention that Maurice will be in hospital for about five days for rehabilitation, as the stroke wasn't too serious. Au revoir Alistair, I hope you enjoy the trip."

He hung up the phone, I reflected back on the conversation and realised that I hadn't actually said yes to his little proposal. I shook my head a little at this, at least you're going to live for a few days in a chateau in some exotic part of France, I thought to myself happily. I spotted Callum coming back from the bathroom, "Sorry I took so long, did you miss me?" he asked while waggling his eyebrows. "You're ridiculous; anyways I have some good news and bad news to tell you."

"What's wrong?" he asked, sobering up a little. "So here goes, your father phoned earlier to tell you that, Maurice, the housekeeper of your family's chateau in France has had a mild stroke and is going to be in hospital for a few days; so we'll need to go and take care of the house for a few days while he recovers." "Will he be alright?" Callum asked, looking quite panicked. "Your father said it was mild and that he will be in rehab for about five days."

He was silent for almost a minute. "Were you two close?" I asked tentatively. "I've spent almost every summer of my life there, Maurice was like an uncle to me, he practically raised me when my dad had to go to meetings and my mom was on the set of some new film." I put my hand on top of his, he looked up at me in surprise.

"I don't think it's as bad as it seems, your dad did mention that it was only a mild stroke, I think he just needs a bit of rehabilitation then I'm sure he'll be back on his feet in no time," I said softly. "Do you really think so?" "I'm not a doctor, but my mom is, I can call her and ask if you'd like," I said.

"It's okay mate, we don't need to bother your mom, besides we can be in France by tomorrow."

I asked for the bill, a different waiter gave it to us. Hmmm, the bimbo must've been peeved that Callum wasn't paying any attention to her, I thought. Callum quickly grabbed the bill, took out his wallet and paid the waiter, "Don't go anywhere," I sternly instructed the waiter, "Did you consider that maybe I wanted to pay the bill?" "No, not really since I was the one who proposed we go out for breakfast and you paid for the pizza last time," he said with a smug smile. "Okay," I said reluctantly. The waiter came back a few minutes later, "Here's your receipt then," he said, while making eye-contact with me the entire time. "Thanks, and sorry about that little spat I had with my friend earlier," I said, with a smile, quite a flirtatious one, might I add, said my subconscious. Either way, the attention is nice, I thought. "Alistair, can we leave now," Callum said impatiently, putting his arm around my waist, while tugging persistently. "Yeah, let's go," I said, "See you around... Ben," I said looking at his name tag. "Bye cutie," he said with a wink.

So that was part 1 of Chapter 4... I hope you enjoyed it, I actually never thought I would do this but Chapter 4 was going to be like 10 pages long if I didn't split the chapters, thus the split. Hope you enjoyed it :D! I'd really appreciate it if you guys emailed me of your opinions of the story so far, I'd really like feedback and/or criticism.
