Chapter 54. THE WEDDING
When they get to the house, much to their surprise, there's a beautiful white limo waiting in front of the house. "Oh wow," says dylan when he sees it. They get into the house, hugs all around, and they go upstairs to change into their suits.
As soon as dylan takes off his t-shirt, Tommy grabs hold of him and begins to chow down on his nipples. Dylan giggles and then moans and keeps switching between the two until Tommy is really getting him "that point" where there's nothing but pain. Tommy always knows when it's time to stop. "Did you think I had forgotten, my little boy? Forgotten that I promised you sore nipples for the wedding?"
"Sir, I was hoping you'd remember!" and Tommy quickly rubs his hands over each nipple and dylan has to fight to get away from him.
"Okay, boy. Let's get you dressed." As usual, Tommy dressed his fiancé first, just like he'd take care of a little boy. Dylan slips into the proper space and loves all the sweet attention he gets from his hero. At tlmes like this, dylan is transfixed and feels genuine awe for this man who takes such good care of him.
From that moment on, everything just seems like a wonderful pink blur to him. The joy of riding to the club in the limo with their parents sharing their love and excitement. When they got to the club they were quickly ushered into a side room where they were happy to see Doug and Phil waiting for them, looking so sharp, their faithful straight best friends.
"Dylan, did you know that one of the guys in your music group actually sings opera?" asks Phil. "He sang something and he blew us away. Kind of funny, thinking he sometimes has to perform as a wedding singer."
"You don't say?" says dylan, winking at Tommy. Soon they'll understand what he tried to create.
Thomas stops in to spend a moment with each of his "sons," and, as always, he something wonderful to say to them. "Your souls were woven together when you were but little boys. Now even the government will know that you were, are, and always will be, one. I am honored being your father."
Uh-oh, the waterworks get started. Doug is concerned, trying to get dylan to stop. "Leave him be," says Tommy. "If he ends up crying while he's walking in, that's fine. Actually, it would be realistic," he says, almost forgetting himself and messing up dylan's hair as he's done 10,000 times just in the last year alone.
The "chapel" was set up brilliantly. Not one, but two aisles converging at the place where their minister was standing in a golden robe and her smile seemed to be the smile of the Great Mother. And then it's time for the surprise. The orchestra started to play and everyone automatically stood up, but they weren't hearing any typical wedding music. A gorgeous tenor voice rang out singing, of all things, love songs from operas. Special arias about love. Some, not all, of their guests would recognize the honey-colored voice of the soloist, but all would be affected by it, understanding that the love represented here between their two friends was something that had its origins deep within the creative soul of the universe, no matter what their religious notions might be. It was, indeed, a truly sacred moment, and the tears falling down dylan's face were simply a part of the beauty. When at last, the two lovers met at the joining of the aisles, Tommy took his own handkerchief and, reaching up, dried the tears from his lover's face and then giving him a peck on the noise. Many of the people gathered there were weeping, either from the music or from the sight of Tommy wiping dylan's tears with the handkerchief his best man handed him. They knew this would happen.
The music came to an end and the ceremony began.
With an enchanting voice the sweet reverend, a personal friend of their mother, spreads her arms and speaks words of welcome to all those who have come to witness and event which could not have taken place only fifteen years ago, and yet at the same time all are hear to witness the legal marriage of these two wonderful young men whose love began a dozen years ago. We must all remember that God is love and God's love is healing, and so we celebrate the commitment legally that was born in the heart of God. Be touched by their love. Find hope in their love. Find you best self as you smile upon these brave and blessed men who I am sure will do so much to spread love among those who have not yet had any opportunity to taste its fruit. Through them they will."
Another aria, the most moving of them all is sung. As this happens let's check in on our four couples who have been brought together over the pages of this tale.
Tony puts his hand on the back of Markus' head and Marks lets the warmth of his touch fill all the broken places in his spirit and he promises to himself that he will spend the rest of his life making his young Master proud of him.
Peter presses the button on the controller he has what will send tremors through tyler's body, a constant reminder that apart from Peter, tyler no longer has any meaningful existence. He exists as slave, continually seeking a lower place in the hierarchy, wishing he could spend his entire life under Peter's boot.
Michael looks at aspin, who is transfixed by what the reverend had to say, and who grows sad when thinking about what he lost when his former Master had died, and who offers up a quick prayer that perhaps he will once again be able to give his obedience service to this man who may very well help him return to what he was meant to be.
Calvin tries to touch his fingers to his step-brother Dom Gus' leg. Gus covers his hand and leans over to whisper to him, "Mine." Calvin looks hopeful.
The ceremony is very simple. After the musical interlude, it's time for the exchange of vows.
It was decided that dylan would go first. Phil handed him the card for him to read, and so he did:
dylan's vows: "In the beginning, there was nothing. no love, no holding, no kisses. Only pain. Then suddenly there was glimpse of light and I heard you voice and saw your beautiful face and you asked me if you could be my friend. I wasn't sure what the word meant because I'd never had a friend before, but a voice inside whispered to me, "trust him," and so I did. And I have never regretted it. And I loved you and feared you would find out, but you loved me too. And now my life is filled with your light. And so I just want to give my life to you and the light would never leave me. And so I am yours, my Tommy, my love, my Master, my friend. Until at last we rest in peace in the life to come.
Then it was Tommy's turn. "Dylan, when I first lay eyes on you I knew you would have my life forever. I vowed that the day will come when I will set you free from all the darkness. I vowed that I would always make sure you feel safe. As the poet Hafez said: "I can lean the flame in my heart into your life and turn all the frightens you into holy incense and ash.' I promise to devote the rest of my life to making that come true for you. You have made me so happy, my love, that I pledge that I will spend the rest of my life caring for you and loving your tender heart for all days."
Nonetheless, there wasn't a dry eye in the building.
This ceremony was so beautiful and inspiring that it injected some new insight into the relationships of our four couples.
TONY held Markus in his arms and spoke gently to him: "I promise you, my boy, that I will always keep you safe and that you will always know how much I love you.
PETER disconnects the device he was using to torture tyler. Tyler looks surprised. Peter says to him, "I only have been harsh with you because I thought that was what you needed. But I learned something today: you are valuable to me, tyler. I want love to motivate you to be the best slave you can possibly be for me because that is what will make you happiest. Love, not fear, is what I want to see in your eyes. If this is too disappointing for you, I will give you your freedom." tyler answers him: I am your slave, Master. You rule my life. If the nature of your rule over me changes, then as your slave, I will surrender to your rule, as always." And with that, tyler falls into his Master's arms, unafraid that he will be punished for soaking up some affection.
GUS turns to Calvin and whispers, "did you learn something from Tommy and dylan, brother?" Calvin raises Gus' hand to his mouth and kisses it. Gus takes his other hand and caresses Calvin's cheek, showing his affection.
MICHAEL isn't surprised by what he just witnessed, but he's really not sure how it will affect his budding relationship with aspin. Aspin sit there with tears flowing down his face, remembering what he once had, and strongly suspecting it is not something Michael will be able to provide for him. He confesses to Michael that he will need to go away for some time to think things over. Michael isn't surprised and promises to drive aspin to his own home once they leave the reception. He, too, needs some time to think.
Then came the exchange of rings, one more wonderful song, and then they were officially pronounced "husband and husband" and the record is registered with both town and state.
The couple receives an overwhelming standing ovation. Phil, Tommy's "best man," passes him a sign with a rope for hanging. Tommy takes the sign and puts it over dylan's neck. The sign, in nice block lettering, says "Tommy's." Laughter ensues.
"baby, I've gotta pee," dylan says to his husband. He tells Phil, then he and Doug escort them out of the room into a private chamber where there is a private bathroom. They stand guard at the door.
"I . . . I . . . I don't really have to pee. I just needed to be alone with you and catch my breath," dylan tells Tommy, who smiles at him and caresses his cheek. "But it probably wouldn't hurt. Let's do it together, the way we used to do when we were little kids," he suggests. "Tommy," drones dylan, "you've got me caged, remember?"
"Oh shit!" Tommy laughs. "I forgot. . . . So go sit down and see what you can do. I'll pee between your legs. Don't worry, I won't get any on you this time," he promises.
And so that's what they do. And while Tommy is peeing, dylan presses his head into Tommy's stomach and breathes him in. "My husband, my husband," he keeps saying. "You own me, sweetheart, you know that."
"do me a favor, husband? Clean off the end of my dick?" Tommy retorts.
dylan does what Tommy asks but then says, "Please never ever tell anyone that I do this for you, please?"
"Well if you are known as a urinal, it would simply go without saying . . ."
"And we're not going there yet. Maybe never," retorts dylan.
They get each other put themselves back to normal. Just as they're about to leave the room the door opens and their parents come in.
"I knew it!" their mother says. "Thomas, I was right. I knew they'd need some time alone," she says with a living smile on her face. Their father follows with a chuckle.
"So, men, are you ready to face your public?" asks Thomas.
"Here we go, dylan. Hold on tight!" Tommy says to dylan as they make their way through the door. The music is wonderful and a lot of people are already dancing, having been told that the usual protocols were not going to be followed. Tommy just takes dylan by the hand and they head to the center of the dance floor, and as others see them there, they slowly back off the floor until at last only Tommy and dylan are there dancing while the musicians play "As sure as I'm Standing Here," and as they're dancing, Tommy keeps singing the words into dylan's ear, "you'll never have to be afraid," and dylan understands how true they are, now in a new wonderful way.
The musicians move to another song they'd chosen, "Somewhere," from West Side Story. Mom and Dad cut in. Mom dances with Tommy while Thomas dances with dylan and whispers to him, "you can hang on tight, son, it's fine," and so dylan squeezes this wonderful man to his hearts' content.
[author's note: If you haven't been following this story from the beginning, please understand that Tommy's Mom and Dad had practically adopted dylan a long time ago to get him away from his abusive family. And so here we have an interesting situation: these are their parents---parents to both of them, now by marriage, but also by the goodness of their hearts over the past dozen years.]
