"Mmm, MMMM....mmmmm, your lips taste yummy," I said as I went back over & over for Travis' lips.
"I had...bacon...for breakfast..." he replied in between kisses.
"Breakfast? What, did you have breakfast right before you knocked on the door?" I chuckled.
"I can go freshen up," he offered.
"No, I like it. How often to I get to taste bacon during sex?" I smiled.
"SEX? Who said anythin' about sex?"
I pulled my head back.
"I beg your fucking pardon?" I laughed.
Travis & I were laying with each other on my bed. The weekend had been a pretty lazy one, full of nothing but watching Chris walk out the door to hang out with girls from school. I had to admit, with his hair now shoulder length thanks to his remission, he had become quite the looker. It must have been nice to be popular at his age. He was four years younger than me, but already had probably made more friends in the last year than I had in the past five.
Oh, so anyway, Travis & I had been going pretty well. To be totally honest, there's really not much to catch you up on. You know what they say; no news is good news. That is...until he said no sex.
"Connor, I TOLD you, I have a job interview today. At Grand Central, I applied to work the information booth, remember?" he said, playing with my fingers.
I groaned as I rolled onto my belly & audibly displayed my disappointment into my pillow.
"Oh c'mon love, now that I might get a job, I can start taking us out to them fancy places. But I need to go to this darn interview first."
"So stupid that you need an interview..." I said into the pillow. "All you pretty much do is tell people where the toilets are."
"It's a little more than that hahaha."
I rolled onto my back, causing the bottom of my t-shirt to roll up a bit, which Travis took as a signal to rub my belly. I closed my eyes as I enjoyed his touch.
"Jobs are dumb. We're kids, we don't need jobs yet," I complained.
"It looks good, & I make money. What's so bad about that?"
"Well what if I never get to see you!" I exclaimed.
"What are you talking about? We'll still see each other. Don't be turnin' all girly on me now."
"When do you have to be there?" I asked.
"It's in an hour."
"An hour?! We could easily be done by then!"
"Hon, I gotta head back home, get in the shower, wash up, shave, iron my clothes, dress up, brush my teeth...by the time I'm done I'll have to be gone."
"GAAHHHH!"
"Your hands are working. Find something online," he said as he stood up & fixed his hair.
"It's not the same," I said, halfheartedly hoping the compliment would change his mind.
"Aww, you're adorable," he smiled.
He leaned down & gave me a long, hand-to-cheek kiss on the lips. I tried to hold onto him as long as possible as he pulled away.
"But it's not gonna work," he laughed as he walked out of my room.
"GAH!"
A week had gone by since Travis had been given the job. And tonight, to celebrate the one week anniversary of it, we had decided to go out & celebrate.
I grinned as I saw Travis from across the room, sitting in his little booth, watching everybody walk by, wearing his blue button-down shirt. I crossed the ocean of people scurrying across the illustrious station to make their trains & buses on time. I finally made to the booth just as Travis had lowered his head to look at something on his desk. He had a desk.
"Excuse me," I said, "where's the bathroom?"
"If you walk toward-" he said, looking up. When he saw it was me, he rolled his eyes & scoffed.
"I thought you would've known my voice by now," I laughed.
"I DO, but I'm busy babe. What are you doing here?"
"Sayin' hi. Weird seeing you, this ol' country boppin' boy from out yonder working here at the heart of major metropolitan transportation in New York City," I said, dropping my voice to a deep tone after having started off mocking Travis' country accent.
"Yeah well out yonder, you can't do as much as you can do in them cities," he shot back. "I can't have you standing in front of the booth."
"Why not?" I said, feeling like he suddenly didn't want me there.
"Because if somebody needs help, I need to help them! Duh!"
"It's Grand Central Station, not a bomb that needs to be defused," I chuckled.
"Grand Central TERMINAL, actually. And some people get confused by it. I know I did for like the first year I lived here. We don't have none of these giant places where I'm from. I mean, it's huge."
"That's what she said," I muttered under my breath.
I walked around to the back of the booth & knocked on the small door. Travis opened up with a displeased grunt.
"Can I stand here?" I said with a cheeky grin.
"Connor...you're starting to become a distraction," he warned.
"Do blowies under your desk count as a distraction?" I whispered.
Travis' face suddenly turned pale white as his eyes shifted to something behind me. The color in his face had drained completely, so I turned around to see what he was looking at.
Standing there was a man, perhaps in his late 30s with salt and pepper hair down to the top of his ears. He had his hands on his hips & was looking at Travis.
"Travis? What's up?" he said casually, but clearly meaning 'who the hell is this?'
"Oh, sorry Mr. Davidson. This is my boyfriend Connor. He just wanted to check up on me for my first week of work," Travis said nervously. I blushed from the unexpected outing. I whipped my head toward Travis, giving him a filthy look.
"All right. Just make sure you stay on task. Do NOT make me regret hiring you," he said, turning to leave.
"And yes," he added, "they DO count as a distraction." He walked away.
I shot daggers at Travis.
"Hey, YOU'RE the one who came here. This is my first week on the job Connor, I can't have you distracting me."
"SORRY if saying hi & seeing how you're doing is DISTRACTING. Let me leave so you can back to your long line of customers," I said sarcastically, waving at the wide open space around the booth.
"Connor," he said firmly, "you just talked about blow jobs in front of my boss. I love you but you embarrassed me! I mean how do you think this looks now? First week on the job, the new kid's gay & his boyfriend dropped by to talk about giving head under the desk. Real appropriate."
"Yeah, thanks for outing me to somebody I don't even know by the way," I hissed at him. "You KNOW I'm still not ready to be totally out yet. I can't believe you just did that..."
"What?! Connor, he's from southern California, he's not gonna care if we're gay..."
"I don't care Travis, you don't do that to someone who isn't ready yet!"
"And you don't talk about BLOWING ME at work in front of my boss!"
I stood there, my throat closing up & feeling my face turn hot. Travis looked down at his work binder as we stayed in silence for a moment. Just then, a woman walked up to the booth asking for the schedule for something going somewhere. As Travis helped her, I turned my head & sniffed.
The woman walked away, leaving Travis & me.
"Look...let's talk about this at dinner tonight, all right? I can't do this right now..." Travis said, still looking down at his binder.
"Fine," I said, walking away.
The car ride on the way to the restaurant was fairly quiet. We had the radio on low, but it might as well have not been on at all, my thoughts were loud. When we finally got to the restaurant, we found a window table & sat down. We waited for our drinks & food to come before we started talking. We were both somewhat dressed up, seeing as this place was formal-casual. I had on a dark green button down shirt with a blazer over it & jeans. Travis had on a black button down shirt with a white tie with his sleeves rolled up. I had to say, regardless of the fact that I was mad at him, he was still stunning. As he always was.
"I'm sorry I distracted you at work. I really am," I started, "but I wish you hadn't just outed me like that to somebody who I don't know."
"Babe," he said, rubbing my foot under the table, "do you wanna know what I honestly think?"
My eyes narrowed at him. I didn't like the sound of that. "Ok..."
"I think it's time you came out, like to everybody. The sooner you do it the less-"
"Oh c'mon Travis," I shook my head, looking out the window. "You know it's just not that easy for me."
"We're seniors in high school Connor. You're out to your mom & dad, Chris, your close friends, your grandpa, you having an amazing boyfriend who you KNOW will be right there with you...it's time you stop being scared & learn to be COMFORTABLE telling people what you are; a gay teenager."
"Oh, please," I mocked. "I'm not exactly going around telling people I'm straight Travis. But telling people I'm gay is something that I should be doing, not anybody else. You had it easy. You were out & about early on, ok? I didn't have that. I need to do this on my own time, at my own pace."
"Everybody who knows you're gay has accepted you Connor, they still love you. And strangers? Who the FUCK cares what they think?"
"No, NOT everybody accepted me. My brother nearly got expelled because of it, I got my legs busted up because of it & my parents didn't know what to say to me at dinner for the next three weeks because of it."
"Those are things you overcame. And yeah, there's gonna be more challenges in the future."
"Which is WHY I need to do it at my own pace & not have you blurting out to people who I don't know, who I don't know if I can trust, that I'm gay."
"You need to come out. To everybody. That's all I'm saying. You are literally worryin' over nothin'. Years from now, when you're in college, or married or old or whatever, you're gonna be lookin' back & thinkin' 'huh, I really wish I had been more open about it sooner'."
"Bottom line Travis," I said firmly, holding up a hand, "coming out is something that you leave up to me. I'm beyond happy that you're there for me, but it's not your place to tell people that about me."
"It's also not YOUR place," he said with a smirk, "to be offering me oral sex under the desk while I'm at work, ESPECIALLY when my new boss shows up to see why there's someone talking to the new kid through the open door."
"I didn't know he'd be right there. And for that, I apologize."
"You're sorry for HIM being there? Connor, you should be sorry for YOU being there."
I was instantly hurt by his words. I stared at him, feeling a brick slam into me. My lips parted slightly, my mouth trying to find something to say, but I couldn't. Not when he had taken the breath right out of me. I pulled my foot away from him & sat back into my seat.
"Look, I didn't mean it that way..." he started.
I got up for the table & stormed off.
I walked into the restroom & went over to the sink where I turned the faucet on, running my hands under the warm flow & splashing my face. I stared into the mirror, fighting to hold back some tears that threatened to run. Travis had never said anything like that to me before. I understood that maybe I shouldn't distract him at work, but for him to blatantly say that...it hurt. And nobody was around when I was there! It wasn't like he was swamped with people...
I started breathing heavy through my nose.
Just then, I noticed there was a man in the mirror looking over at me.
"Are you all right?" he asked me.
"Yup," I said, giving him a smug look.
I left the bathroom & walked back to the table. The food had arrived & it looked like Travis was playing with his fork, not eating until I got back.
"I'm sorry it sounded that way..." Travis said, looking down at his food.
"But not sorry you feel that way," I said flatly.
"Are you sorry for saying that while I was at work?"
I crossed my arms.
"Connor."
"Fine! I'm sorry, ok?" I threw up my arms. "I shouldn't have talked about sucking your dick in front of your boss at work."
"Thank you."
"And YOU?" I said.
"I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't mean for that."
"And?" I added.
"And for outing you. I should be supporting you coming out the way you want, not doing it for you."
"Thank you," I said, rubbing his foot under the table.
"So unfair," he shook his head.
"What?" I said, puzzled.
He gave me a crooked grin. "The fact that I'm sorry for two things & you're only sorry for one."
I cracked a grin & laughed.
