Under your Spell

Chapter 6

Damaged

As I rushed out the door I planed to use my magic to start looking for Brody, but unfortunately before I could even think of a way to do so Allen caught my attention. He apparently followed me.

"Hold up I'll help you look for that dude you were with." Allen said.

"His name is Brody, and I really don't want or need your help." I said.

"Listen I know this area really well. If something happened and you got lost I'd feel terrible." Allen said.

"Honestly your feelings are the last thing on my mind right now. Why don't you just leave me alone?" I said and started walking down the street. Unfortunately Allen did not listen to a word I said. He continued to follow me.

"I swear, if you don't go away I'm going to use the stupid phone that Rob insisted that I buy to call the police and file a restraining order on you." I said.

"I think you have to go to the police station for that. I know where it is if you want me to show you?" He asked.

"You are trying to piss me off on purpose aren't you?" I asked him.

"Just a little bit, but hey at least you don't have time to get all sad about your boyfriend leaving you." Allen said.

"Okay, enough I have tried to control my temper, but I can see you aren't going away. What do you want from me? What do you want to fuck me again, and then forget my phone number until another six months or few years go by? Then you'll wake up and realize.oh yeah I love that crazy bastard Anthony, why don't I go ruin his life again?" I vented.

"I didn't know I meant so much to you." Allen said and the bastard actually looked upset. I fought the urge to transfigure him into a roach and crush him.

"You did at one time, but not anymore. I could care less if ever see you again, and in fact I'd prefer I didn't. Fuck off!" I said and got in my car and drove away leaving him standing there.

Things with Allen and I had always been rocky. However, things really took a turn for the worst when he started drinking too heavily and experimenting with more and more drugs. Things got worse and worse. He would lie, cheat, and steal from me. He would string me along with promises of love and anything else that it took to get back into my bed or my house to take something to sell for drugs. Our relationship was far from a healthy one.

I didn't mean to, but I caught a glimpse of him in my rear view mirror. He was crying. Damn him! That was always his dirtiest trick. I have no idea how someone could treat me like pure dirt, and then all the sudden make out like I'm the only thing that matters in the world to him. I'm not buying it anymore.

"Brody, where are you?" I asked to the wind as I pulled into my drive way. It's amazing how fast one can drive if they use magic.

I tried a few times to just make Brody appear, and I tried to will myself to him, but nothing came of either approach. I wasn't sure what else to do. I even remembered the cave dreams, and tried to make myself go there. However, every time I almost transported myself there I felt this sharp pain in my head, and one time I even fell down in the floor in my living room. It felt like I hit a brick wall or something.

"It won't work like that dear. It isn't time to go there yet." Grandmother said as she appeared before me.

"Grandma, how are you here?" I asked as she helped me out of the floor.

"Oh, I'm not really here I guess. I'm sort of like a guardian angel!" Grandmother said.

"You are my guardian angel?" I asked her.

"Well, yes I suppose that is a good way to look at it. However, you have more than one dear. You are a representative of our kind here on Earth. There are only roughly 300 half angels on earth you know? You are one of 3 that happen to live in America. You have powers to do many good things. So we try our best to keep you safe and help you when we can. It's sort of like a training program really, life that is. You and all mortals are just training for the afterlife." Grandmother told me.

"Well, that's all great and wonderful, but if you are here to help me then tell me where Brody is. Right now I'm really only interested in helping him." I told her.

"I know darling, but it's just not going to happen, at least not yet. Not even your magic can penetrate the dark magic that is holding him." Grandmother said.

"So you mean, I'm supposed to just give up on him?" I asked

"Not at all, but you are going to need to find another way than a direct approach. Finding the cave is going to be a bit more difficult this time around. You see the first time you were an invited guest. Invited, doesn't seem quite right, but all the same." She said.

"So, the cave is linked to the shadow creature?" I asked.

"Yes and no. I think your 'shadow creature' as you call him lives in or near that cave. However, it is so filled with dark magic that we really don't know much more than you. I was told to tell you this though. If you want to find Brody, you will have to work with Allen." Grandmother told me. She might as well hit me in the head with a hammer.

"How can I do that? You don't actually expect me to trust him do you?" I said.

"Heavens no! I wouldn't suggest you trust him any further than you can throw him. Of course you probably can chunk him a lot further than you should trust him, now that you have the gift." Grandmother rambles almost as bad as me.

"So, you guys think he knows something, like maybe he's working with whatever took Brody?" I asked.

"Nothing is sure, but the guys up stairs say it is the best place for you to start. Don't worry about telling him about your magic either. He saw your car disappear, so that little cat's already out of the bag." She said and disappeared.

"Great! Now, he's got ammo to use against me!" I could see it already. Sleep with me or I'll tell everyone!

I decided if I was going to have to deal with my ex, I wanted back up. So I called Daniel and he came over. I also used a little bit of trickery and found Allen's phone number and called him to come over as well.

"How did you get my number babe?" Allen asked.

"Never mind that for now. I need to talk to you. Can you come over to my place?" I asked him.

"Sure I'll be over in about 30 minutes. I was coming back to town anyway." Allen said.

I hung up the phone and thought seriously about taking a shower to wash off the nasty feeling I got when he called me babe. I knew if I was going to get any useful information out of Allen, I was going to have to play whatever twisted game he had in store for me.

"What's going on?" Daniel asked walking into my house.

"Brody was abducted or something like that." I told him.

"Are you serious? Oh my god, is there anything I can do?" Daniel asked.

"Not directly, but I do need you to do me a huge favor." I said.

"Anything, just name it." He said.

"You have to stay with me while Allen is here." I told him.

"Wait, your boyfriend is missing and you are going to spend time with that jackass?" Daniel asked confused.

"I know this isn't making much sense, but I talked to Grandmother just a few minutes ago. She said Allen might know something about Brody's disappearance." I explained that part and brushed over quickly about the guardian angel spill.

"You talked to our dead grandmother, and she thinks you should talk to Allen? I'm going to need a drink. Do you want anything?" He asked going to my kitchen.

"I don't think we have booze here, but I know Brody had a few beers in the fridge at his place.so wait. Okay, they are now in my fridge. At least in theory!" I said.

"Good work cuz!" Daniel shouted from the kitchen.

"Remind me to replace those, Brody might miss them when we get him back." I said.

"I don't think he'll miss these, you didn't get them from his fridge." Daniel said.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

"Well, the Beer you were aiming for is bud light, l-i-g-h-t, this my friend is bud l-i-t-e." Daniel told me.

"Ugh, I always thought I was a visual speller, go figure!" I said laughing.

"Don't worry you did get the taste right at least." He complimented me.

"Well, that's just dumb luck then because I don't drink the stuff!" I told him.

"Maybe my guardian angel was watching after me." He joked.

"I have to say you seem pretty calm. Aren't you freaking out about Brody?" He asked a bit later.

"I've changed over the past couple weeks Daniel. I don't know if it's the powers, or if its because of Brody, but I've changed. I know normally I'd be the first to break and cry about this whole mess, but now I know I have to be strong if I want to save him. There will be time to break down after I find him." I said.

"You have changed, and it looks good on you. Now how about we just tell Allen to fuck off, and we go look for Brody on our own? I don't think any good will come from Allen." Daniel said.

"I would do that, but if there's a chance he knows something we need to get it out of him." I said.

"Please tell me you'll let me beat it out of him?" Daniel asked.

"Force has never worked with Allen unfortunately. I think we'll have to play whatever twisted game he comes up with at least for now. Maybe I can use my powers to read his mind?" I said.

"I'm not sure I'd want to see what's on his mind." Daniel said looking a bit sick.

"Good point, but I may have to at least try it." It wasn't long before Allen was knocking on the door.

"Come in, you remember Daniel right?" I asked as Allen walked in.

"Oh, yeah I thought you would be alone." Allen said obviously disappointed.

"Sorry, but this isn't a date." I said and directed him to sit down on the couch.

"What is this then? Did you find Brody yet?" Allen asked.

"No, did you see any signs of him?" I asked.

"Not really, I only met him the once though. I'm not sure I'd know him if I did see him." Allen said.

"So what did you think of my car? Pretty fast huh?" I asked him.

"Yeah, you really seemed to disappear." Allen laughed nervously.

"I did. It was just a little magic you know?" I said.

"Magic, what do you mean. There isn't any such thing as real magic." Allen said, but I saw something in his eyes.

"Ah, you know more about magic than you are letting on. Why don't you tell me what you know about what really happened to Brody?" I asked.

"I don't know anything about Brody! I already told you that. Listen I know you are pissed at me, but seriously I wouldn't lie to you about something this big." Allen said.

"Ugh, I wish I could find that stupid cave I'd chunk your ass right in it." I said starting to get mad all over.

"Wait, I may not know anything about Brody, but I have heard of a cave. You are right, I do know about magic. My mother was a Wiccan priestess. She wasn't all that powerful, but she could pull a few tricks here and there. She used to talk about a cave. Something like it belongs to an old family that used to live here in town. Craven was the name I think. I could find her books if you want? She's not using them anymore, since she died." He said.

His mother had died 4 years ago, in fact at her funeral was the last time I saw Allen till tonight. I had no idea that his mother was into witchcraft, but perhaps this is the way Allen is supposed to help me find Brody. I was suddenly very interested in getting my hands on the books.

"I think the books would be helpful. How soon can you get them to me?" I asked.

"I don't know. It may take a few days to find them, but if you would come and help me it might be sooner." He said.

"Just describe them to me, and I'll find them right now!" I said.

"Where's the fun in that? No, if you want the books you'll have to earn them." Allen said, but before he could hardly get the words out Daniel was holding him by the neck of his shirt.

"Listen here you useless piece of trash. You have hurt my cousin one too many times already. We aren't playing your sick games. Just give him the books, and leave him alone. Do I make myself clear?" Daniel said.

"Fine! You can have the damn books. Just get in my car and we'll go get them." Allen said and Daniel put him down.

"I'm watching you, one wrong move and you are done!" Daniel warned.

"I like a man that's forceful." Allen said and winked at Daniel.

"Please don't make me puke." Daneil said and pushed Allen out the door.

"Fine. Let's go." He said.

The trip over to his house was rather quick and mostly painless. Though I couldn't help that he would stare at me in the rearview mirror every few seconds. I would have just taken us there with magic, but I didn't know where he lived now. So I was stuck with the long boring way.

"Here we are. I think the books are in my room in my chest. I'll be right back, just wait down here guys." Allen said and walked up the stairs at his house.

"I really don't like this. For all we know this could be a trap." Daniel said.

"I know, but if there really are books, it would be really helpful." I countered.

"Ah ha! I found them!" Allen shouted from upstairs. "I'm coming down!" he said.

I was about to say something to Daniel with suddenly I saw all the color go out of him, and he was as still as a statue. "What, Daniel what's wrong?" I screamed.

"He can't hear you right now. He's all stoned and stuff. That's what he gets for being such a prick. These books are really helpful, just like I said. Here let me try this one on you!" Allen started reading from the book.

"No!" I screamed as my clothes suddenly shred to bits as they fell to the floor. "Whatever you are expecting to happen, it's not going to!" I said and I threw him across the room with my own magic.

"Oh, I will be getting what I want from you!" Allen said and he got back up. Allen rushed across the room gliding more than running. He was using his magic in an attempt to over power me. I could feel his arms rap around me and he kissed my neck. I felt shivers go down my spine, and I wanted to scream with rage and fear. I managed to break his control over me, and I tossed him through the door and into what appeared to be his kitchen.

"I guess grandmother was right, I can throw you pretty far. I'll be taking the books, and leaving now." I used my powers to pick up the books and Daniel and we were standing in my living room.

"What happened?" Daniel asked.

The spell on him apparently broke once we were far enough away from Allen.

"It was a trap, but we got the books all the same. Allen might be here soon, he wasn't very happy." I told him.

"Where exactly are your clothes?" Daniel asked me next.

"Allen intended to rape me, but he didn't succeed." I said and then I did break down.

"It's okay man!" Daniel said and hugged me as I cried on his shoulder. I wasn't sure what part of the whole mess I was really crying about, being attacked by Allen, or being worried to death about Brody. I guess it was both.

"Why don't you go get dressed, and we'll start looking through these books. The sooner we find Brody, the sooner we will be able to deal with Allen for good." Daniel said.

"Your right, we are too close for me to break down now. Brody needs me." I said and went to get dressed.
