I may not be able to publish next week as I may be out of town in the country but do keep tuned as there is a Chapter 12.

Previously

I turned. "Jeremy, the police are here and your father cannot hurt you. He opened the door. My heart almost burst and I willed the tears away. Jeremy had the beginning of a black eye. His cheeks were swollen and bloody and his nose looked as if it had been hit, possibly broken. There was blood all over his shirt and pants. His mother approached. She too had a black eye beginning and just small lacerations and puffiness on her face. Jeremy took one look at his mother, started crying and collapsed into my arms. For the first time in my life, I knew how a parent felt when they wanted to protect and comfort their child. I hugged him and said soothing words telling him what a great job he had done protecting his mother. Something changed in me that night. Philip came in looked at the situation and gathered Jeremy's mother in his arms and pulled us all together, one big Italian hug. He told me later that he too had felt something change in him.

The police took a quick statement from both son and mother We waited for the ambulance. The officers were waiting for the ambulance and then they would take the father off to sleep off his drunken stupor. We had quickly talked. "Officer, neither the mother or the son want to press charges but you could charge him with attacking a police officer. Could you manage that?" She replied that she understood and said with pleasure. I was a witness to the attack and I signed a statement.

Before the ambulance pulled away, I gave both mother and son my name and Philip's and our address and asked them to put us on the family list so that we could come in a be with them in the ER. It was going to be a long night but I wanted to sort things out before it was over. A plan was forming in my head and I would discuss it with Philip as we drove. Then the inevitable wait for examinations and x rays.

My plan was simple. Mother and son would stay at our place until tomorrow. One of us would take his mother home if she wanted to go there. Jeremy would stay with us until things settled down, if they ever did. I had to be ready for the last possibility. Another topic to discuss with Philip. Simple plans sometimes become complex, often more than we imagine.

Present

I hate being right sometimes. It did take hours but we finally left the ER at 3:30 am. Luckily, Jeremy and his mother had quickly packed toiletries and clothes for the next couple of days so we could go straight to our home. The good news was that only Jeremy's nose was broken and it had been fixed up. Neither had any other breaks. They were cleaned up and when we left, they didn't look quite as bad. Luckily they had been given some pain killers and we had ibuprofen and some acetaminophen at the house. We had agreed on a basic plan and I knew that there would be more discussions after a little sleep and food at breakfast.

Jeremy managed to tell us the story with his mother listening. His father had heard a rumour, probably true as it turned out, that someone had seen Jeremy give a quick kiss to his buddy on the soccer team as they said goodbye one afternoon in a shopping centre. He confronted Jeremy and Jeremy had been paralyzed as to what to say and how to react. The father assumed that he was correct and Jeremy didn't say differently. The demands started to stop acting like 'a fucking faggot' and the father tried to back up his authority with his fists. His mother realized now that she had a gay son and it obviously didn't matter to her. Good. We all knew what we had to deal with.

I was surprised that I woke up at 8 just feeling a bit groggy but not too bad. Philip stumbled into the kitchen at 8:45. His first comment, "You were amazing last night and I like your plan. Jeremy has stolen my heart." He looked at me with his mischievous look. "We have set a record." I looked at him. "No sex last night and none this morning, a record."

"You are a horny bastard." I shook my head laughing and gave him a pretty impressive kiss. "Until tonight?" His return kiss told me that all was OK.

Continuing, "By the way, thank for what you said. He has my heart as well. I hope that he can get through this."

"I think that he is a tough kid and with some help, he will flourish out of the house with that bastard.

"Amen to that."

I heard a noise behind me. Jeremy was there in boxer shorts and a t shirt looking like hell but so young and fresh. It made my heart ache to realize what he had to deal with. I promised myself that I would go the distance with him. He looked so cute. His light brown hair was all tousled and sleep arranged. His t shirt showed off his well developed chest which narrowed to his hips. The boxers showed off his soccer legs with just a dusting of sandy hair on them. He was probably going to break some hearts along with his own in the next couple of years.

"Hey sport, you look like hell. I hope that other guy looks worse." He had a fearful look on his face. "You did really well. Few people could have handled that situation as you did. You are here and you are staying here as long as you have to. No question about it." There I had made a commitment and both Philip and I knew that we always kept our commitments. I gave him the breakfast choices.

"Guys, I want to go to school today. I have some important classes this afternoon and a practice after school. I asked the doctor and he said that I could go."

"We'll phone the school and take you over with your mom to settle some things When do you need to be there?"

"I'd like to be there just before lunch if possible. I promised a friend some help with his math. He has a test this afternoon."

My estimation of him just kept going up. In hospital all night, looks like hell, wants to help his friend, attend important classes and go to a practice. How could his father miss this?

I heard a noise down the hall. Jennifer appeared in the doorway.

"Jeremy, you are a guest, get some clothes on."

I looked at him, gave him a small smile and signalled with my eyes and head to do what his mother wanted. With a smile and an exaggerated sigh. "OK, Mom. Sorry. I was hungry and forgot." He gave her a quick morning hug. Nice. Put that on the list, dress code and privacy rules.

I phoned work and gave my secretary a brief run down figuring that I would be in by 11:30 or 12 noon. Emergency calls only. Philip did the same. We readied ourselves for the day and left at about 10 to take Jeremy to school. Jennifer had phoned the school and we had an appointment with the Principal at 10:30.

We, more specifically Jeremy, had a lot of astonished looks. We were used to him by now but he did look quite beaten up. Duh, he had been. The brain was working slowly today.

The Principal's eyes opened wide as we were ushered into his office. We had decided that I would start it off. I introduced Philip and myself. He had met Jennifer.

"Mr. Beeman, I am a friend of the family. Jeremy phoned me last night asking for assistance with a case of domestic violence and a drunk and disorderly assault. Unfortunately, his father was taken by the police to sober up and we spent the evening and early morning in the ER and then at our home. Jeremy will be staying at our home, indicating Philip, until the situation is resolved. Under no circumstances is Jeremy's father to be allowed to contact or deal with his son.

I looked at Jennifer and Jeremy.

Jeremy spoke up. "Sir, I would like you to contact only James and Philip or my mother's work number. I shall be living at their home for as long as it takes to sort this out.

Me, "I am contacting my lawyer today to formalize our position and will be asking for a restraining order for Jeremy's father. In the absence of Jeremy's mother, we are to be 'in loco parentis' (in place of the parents)."

The Principal looked at mother and son. Jennifer spoke up. "Sir, it hurts me a lot to have to go through this but it is for Jeremy's sake and for his school year." Jeremy was looking a little worried. His friend would be expecting him.

"Jeremy is looking upset because he promised a friend some help with a test this afternoon. Would it be OK if he left and we can finish up without him?

"Jeremy, you appear to be the worst for wear but I assume that you are OK physically. Do you need any counselling?"

I spoke up. "That bothers me too. Could we leave that for his mother, us and Jeremy to sort out? Thank you so much for the offer." His mother gave him a hug as he left.

He came up to me. "Good luck son. Why don't you let me pick you up after school, just this once." We agreed on a time after soccer practice. He gave me a quick hug and quiet thank you.

"You seem to get on very well."

"Yes I met him through Father Gregory and I have been tutoring him in math at the church these last weeks."

Jennifer, "His marks have soared since the tutoring started."

"I have been hearing very good things about him. A very good turn around for the lad. Yes I was aware of his behaviour change. He has become one of our promising students again. It is a pleasure meeting his two, in loco parentis. Probably bad grammar but you understand. We smiled and said our goodbyes.

By the time I picked up Jeremy, I had a statement that he wanted us and his mother only to contact him. In addition, I had a new Attorney for Personal Care drawn up specifying any of the three of us to act for him; it only needed his signature. My lawyer had applied for a restraining order; I gave him a copy of the application. His father was specifically denied access and was not to approach his son. I gave a copy to Jeremy to carry in case his father was not served the next day. He put it in his backpack, always with him. I or Philip would now to be able to deal with doctors and hospitals. I would get everything signed and into my lawyer first thing in the morning.

His practice had gone well, as well as had his friend's test. He was in great spirits by the time we reached home. We had stopped for some pizza. Jennifer was waiting for us looking very strained. Her husband had come home after getting out of jail and then work and was waiting for his son. He was furious that his faggot son was with a couple of homos. Not promising. Luckily he did not know our names or our address.

While Jeremy was off setting up his room. I asked Jennifer a lot of question about her financial situation. She was in fairly good shape with her job. Her take home pay was quite good and she had extra medical coverage and other benefits for the family. Something struck me.

"Jennifer, did you ever start a university fund for Jeremy." She proudly told me that they had and a lot of his years were covered but not all of it. Because of her job, the money had been taken out of her account so she was named in the policy. I asked her to contact them tomorrow and gave her some things that I wanted her to know. I wanted to make sure that there was no way to close the account down and cash it out. As it turned out there was not. I also wanted it on record that he was planning to attend university the coming fall and only she or Jeremy could change that.

She had decided to go home that night and promised me that if there any problems that she would catch a cab or phone me to get her. When she left, I went to Jeremy's room and asked him to come and talk to us when he had finished his work.

He came into the living room. We had a long talk about house rules, washing, cleaning up, neatness and expectations in his leisure time. He was the one who mentioned most of what we had planned to talk about. The one thing we stressed was that we wanted to know where he was and if there were problems, we had to know. We expected calls if he was going to be late. Finally, no drugs or alcohol in the house or outside it until he was legal and only then when he was not driving our cars. That had his eyes opening. "I can use your cars."

Smiling, "Sometimes ... maybe ... if you really deserve it."

We all laughed when he told us that should be easy.

I was busy catching up the next day and finally in mid afternoon, I shut off my phone and told my secretary not to disturb me. I had a very important meeting with one of our best clients. In retrospect, I convinced myself that it was probably a lucky decision. Philip handled this one better than I would have.

Philip got a panic phone call from Jeremy from his job at the Metro at 4:30; thank god for cell phones and speed dial memory. Jeremy's father was in the store demanding to see his son. He had probably been drinking. As Philip told me later, it was a no brainer. He left the office within minutes of the call having assured Jeremy that he was on his way. I got the full details later that night.

He could hear the ruckus as he walked into the store.

"I demand to see my ... fucking ... son."

The manager of the store, "He says that he will not see you and he wants you to leave the store. I have seen the restraining order application. You cannot see him by law."

"A restraining order against his own father!!! I'll teach the little bastard some manners and respect."

"Sir, another step and I call the police."

That was when Philip arrived. As he said later, at least he became the focal point and took the pressure off Jeremy.

"You fucking queer bastard. You are the cause of this. I should kill you."

"Mr. Jackowski, I have a restraining order here saying that you are not to approach or communicate with your son without his approval and that Mr. Milner and I and his mother are the only ones to deal with him. He doesn't want to see you. You physically attacked him and broke his nose two nights ago. Leave now. I have already called the police." He had made a quick 911 call when he had entered the store. It turned out that the assistant manager had done the same thing.

Hearing Philip's voice, Jeremy had come out of the doors leading from the store to the back area. In a calm, clear voice. "Father, we have nothing to say. I am not going to go home with you and if we ever talk, it will be somewhere safe for me. Please don't make this worse for yourself. Please leave and don't bad mouth Mr. Marchese. It is not his fault." Philips heart went out to this young man. He realized that he felt exactly as Jamie had felt that evening two nights ago when he had faced the father. He would do anything for this young man.

It was both the wrong thing and the right thing to have done. The father was enraged that his son would talk to him like that in public or at least that is what he screamed out. Threats of punishment like the old days. He would stop this nonsense. He then started to advance on his son. Philip stepped directly in front of the father.

"Get out of my way or you will be sorry you goddamn fairy."

Philip smartly did not reply. He simply stood there but had taken a defensive posture. The father was close enough that Philip could smell the beer. The father telegraphed what he was going to do. As he had been trained, he saw the hand start to close up into a fist and then start to swing towards him. He caught the arm and wrist and using the man's momentum, pulled him forward off balance, turning him around and twisting the arm behind him and up. He slammed his knees into the back of the knees of the father and had him face down on the ground in seconds. The father was screaming invectives the whole time. There was a gasp and smattering of claps from the crowd. As Philip said later, he had provided the afternoon entertainment and dinner conversation for a large number of families that night.

There was a trace of a smile on the female officer's face as she crouched down. "Sir, I couldn't have done a better job. Here let me put the handcuffs on this man. I saw enough to know who is to blame."

For Philip, the most wonderful time was when Jeremy came up and hugged him saying thanks Dad, again.

"Son, I would do it for you anytime, any place."

The police officer looked at Philip later. "Dad, I thought he was his father."

"In loco parentis, is what our lawyer calls it. He explained the events and showed her the restraining order."

"I'd say a very lucky boy, Mr. Marchese. His father did that to his nose? No wonder the son wants nothing to do with him."

They were at home when I arrived. Philip had left a short phone message at work. I would have loved a picture. They were sitting on the couch talking with Philip's arm draped comfortingly on Jeremy's shoulder. I heard him tell him yet again that this was not his fault and he handled himself really well.

"Jeez, I leave you guys alone for one day and you get yourselves into trouble again. What do I have to do?"

Jeremy jumped up giving me a big, Jeremy hug. "You should have seen Philip. He was incredible. Even the officer complimented him."

"I know, I know. He is my hero too." I said it in mocking voice and gave Philip a soppy look and kiss that had us all laughing. "That is why I want you to start self defence training this week if we can arrange it. Every guy should know the techniques. Philip and I have both had training. It goes with the territory as you saw today."

Still laughing, Jeremy, "You guys are too much. Let's look at my schedule and see where I can fit what in."

I had started leaving the slow cooker going in the morning and we had a really nice pork meal that Jeremy devoured. I enjoyed watching him eat. He was hungry and appreciative. We would have to work on the table manners but that was for another time. Jennifer had phoned to tell us and Jeremy that after the very unpleasant time at home the previous night, she had packed most of her stuff up and moved to her sister's in the suburbs.

During supper I broached plans for the weekend, especially Sunday. Jeremy said that he would be proud to go to church and meet Philip's family. The little bugger added that he would love a properly prepared home cooked meal. I gave him a cuff on the side of the head. We were fitting in well. But he just didn't have time to go to our soccer match on Saturday. He had a paper due late the next week and some studying and finally, he wanted to meet up with his buddy Kent for a hamburger and some time together. I added that we would love to meet him. Why not for supper?

"Can he study with me in the afternoon on Saturday?" I decided not to make any comments and just said sure. He was going to have to make his own decisions and he did need some time with his buddy. I let him know exactly what time our practice and game was and told him when we would be home probably bringing some guys with us.

Later when we went to bed I realized that I really liked the fact that our bathroom and the one attached to Jeremy's room separated the two rooms. It left us free to express ourselves pretty freely. There were a lot of walls between the rooms. It turned out that we needed a lot of that freedom that night.

"Was it really as crazy as the Metro or were you exaggerating for Jeremy's sake?"

"I can only be thankful for the training and the little brush up on it last year. My heart was pounding but it felt as if all my senses were doubled. It was weird. Everything seemed concentrated and in the back of mind was Jeremy's trust in us and the need to protect him. I knew that I would do almost anything for him.

We made good use of the walls that separated us from Jeremy. This was going to change our life especially our freedom around the house but both of us thought that it was not a terrible imposition. "Philip, I am so sorry that I shut myself off from the world this afternoon but you handled it exactly right. We feel the same about this young man, don't we?" He nodded his head in a definite yes.

I grabbed him to me. I held him as close as I could. We had both decided that we would not stop sleeping naked. I loved the feel of his body against mine. I ran my hands up and down his broad back and finally stopping at his ass. I messaged his ass cheeks with the odd little venture between them. In no time I had him very hard. He started to move his cock against me in a very insistent way. We kissed and were both rubbing against the other. I asked him what he wanted tonight. His answer was to pull away and lie on his back with his legs spread and his knees bent. I could see his cock sticking up and his balls moving slowly as he moved. Then there was the hair.

"Do you know how that turns me on?" His big smile answered my question. "Then I assume you will like this."

I knelt between his legs and took him in my mouth. His eyes were closed and he had a wonderful fully engaged look. He was enjoying my mouth as I licked and sucked him. I could begin to taste his precum. The whole thing had made me hard and feeling incredible erotic and tuned on. He could stand up to a drunk and surrender himself to me. What a wonderful feeling! We ended with me slowly going all the way in and out with just the head in. It was slow and delicious for both of us. When I was very close, I manoeuvred myself into a position where I was still in him but I was able to bend over and lick and bite his nipples. I sucked and bit them hard and that sent him over. I could see his first two blasts and leaned over and pummelled him licking up his shots with my tongue and mouth as I did. My orgasm was almost painful but oh, so good. We kissed for minutes sharing.

I wanted to get us into a routine that was normal and acceptable to all. It was Friday and we were going to the Club and Jeremy was going from a practice then out with the guys for a burger and some computer games at a friends. I told him take my car. He looked shocked. Philip would drive me to work and pick me up. We agreed that he would be home by 11.

We had a great time at the Club and arrived home at 10:45 with all the lights blazing in the house. Our young man was lounging in the den watching Netflix. We talked for a few minutes and then we gave him a hug and went off to bed, not to sleep as it turned out. My guy was a little worked up from a night dancing and flirting with me. We were quieter than the night before and finally fell asleep satisfied.

Something woke me in the middle of night. It was muffled noises. I crawled out of bed and opened our door. There were cries coming from Jeremy's bedroom. Philip was up in a flash. We slipped on boxers and we went down the hall. Jeremy was asleep and he was tossing and turning, crying out "Don't hit me father. I'm a good guy; I'm just different. No don't break my nose."

The two of us climbed on the bed one on each side. "Sh, sh, Jeremy, it's OK. You are with us. You are safe." His eyes opened, saw us and started to cry. We both held him and rocked him telling him what a bright, brave young man he was. I repeated over and over that he was safe and that we cared from him more than he could know. We must have stayed for 30 minutes and the crying turned to sobs which slowly changed to shallow and then deeper breathing. We both had tears in our eyes as we slowly got off the bed and left the room. We left his door and ours open just in case. I gave my guy a kiss and hug of thanks. The principal was correct; he might need some help. My last conscious thought was a thank you to Father Gregory, saying to myself and to the Father Gregory that we shall take good care of Jeremy. Well, you have to keep your promise to a priest.
