Chapter 1 -- "The Beginning"

As I compare who I was a couple years ago and who I am today, I am amazed at how one meeting can change the course of a person's life.

To introduce myself my name's Matt and I'm a college student right now and work part time at a large computer firm. I'm 19, and I wouldn't say that I'm that cute, but I'm decent looking. I'm about 5'9, 150 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. I don't spend too much time in the gym, so muscular definition is minimal, but I'm not pudgy either. I run all the time so that helps keep me in shape.

The meeting that changed my life occurred one fateful afternoon on my friend's college campus. I had just dropped my old high school friend off at her class and I was about to go back to my car to get to work. We were friends, and I was there to fulfill a promise I made to her to visit the campus. As I strolled across the campus, enjoying the nice warm sunny day, I saw a middle-aged fellow looking intently in my direction with his camera phone pointed at me. The man was of medium stature, light brown hair and had a runner's build. He was handsome, but not really my type. Assuming that he was merely playing with his cell phone, I continued walking towards the dorms. As I took my stroll, I enjoyed the many smooth bodies walking in the area, but the distraction provided by the male specimens stopped me from realizing that the earlier man was now following closely behind. All of a sudden I was snapped from my reverie by the feel of a man tapping my shoulder.

"Excuse me. My name's John. Do you know how to get to the dorms? I'm supposed to meet my son at Hendricks, but I seem to have lost my way." As I turn to face the man, I recognize him as the man who had been observing me earlier. At first thought, it was peculiar that he asked me, of all the people walking the campus. But I realized, maybe he thought I was a nice guy, and so I didn't think much of it and decided to lead him to the dorms, as that was the general direction I was going to take anyways. Even though the trek to Hendricks meant an extra mile to walk uphill, I figured I could use the exercise. I reach out to give the man a handshake.

"Sure, I'm actually on my way to the dorms myself, just follow me and I'll take you to Hendricks. Oh yeah, my name is Matt."

The introductions complete, I motion for him to follow as I made my way through the maze of students.

"What year are you? You seem to know your way around the campus pretty well." John asked.

"I'm a second year, but I don't attend this university actually. I go to a school about 40 minutes from here. I've just come here quite a bit to visit my friend, so I've trekked this path a couple times already."

"Oh, my son's a first year, so I've never been on campus before. I was supposed to meet my son at the bookstore, but I was late and by the time I got to the bookstore he had already gone, and so I just called him up and he told me to go to his dorm."

>From there on, our conversation went silent. As we made our way through the crowd, I found myself observing this man. He seemed to walk with grace not apparent in most guys. He was definitely confident in how he pictured himself and his status. I noticed a slight smirk and sparkle in his eye that grew in intensity as we drew closer towards the dorm, but I didn't say anything, as I thought it was something he was thinking of at the time and was not my business. After a couple minutes of silence and as we neared the dorm, John accidentally bumped into me.

"Excuse me. I'm sorry, I just am too excited about seeing my son."

       "That's alright," I replied.

As we continued our walk in silence, John continued to walk at a close distance, almost to a point where he would bump into me after every step. He would apologize, but looking into his eyes made me shiver, as there seemed to be an ulterior motive lurking in his eyes; I just couldn't figure out what the motive was. His walking extremely close to me began to unnerve me. As each step progressed, I grew more uncomfortable leading him to the dorms. Just as Hendricks came into view and I decided that I couldn't stand the closeness and felt it was proper for me to leave him here.

"That's Hendricks right there. I hope you have fun with your son, but I better be going now. It was nice meeting you John."

"Are you sure? I'm sure my son wouldn't mind another person joining us for lunch."

"Yes I'm sure. I have some last minute things to prepare for, so I better go..."

"No Matt. Come on with us. Don't worry about it. Save that for later. You have to eat don't you?"

I felt his hand rest on my back, slightly pushing me forwards, thus ending any argument. When I looked back towards him, John simply gave me a smile which gave me shivers. The smile spoke of sinister thoughts and plans. It was then that I realized that I may have made a huge mistake in leading this man to the dorms, as there was no easy way for me to reach my car from here, without avoiding John. The fact that I was not 100% familiar with the area only further worried me. Not particularly liking his hand resting on my back, I hastened my pace to try at least putting some distance between us. This did not stop him, as he hastened his pace to match mine and grabbed onto my shirt. I stopped and turned to him.

"What're you doing? Can you not put your hand on my back? I don't feel comfortable with you doing that."

John's face contorted into a big grin and his eyes suddenly sparkled of sudden glee and mischief. Right then and there, I was absolutely sure something was deeply wrong, with this guy and the situation. I knew John had some ulterior motive, and I should not have disregarded the connection between him asking for directions and him taking photos of me. Obviously, he was taking pictures of me in the park with his camera phone to mark me as his, and whether or not I escaped now, he would pursue me in the future. I had no escape route; I was stuck and he knew it. He grabbed my shoulders and turned me around, and draped one arm wrapped around my chest. Instead of directing us towards the front entrance, he dragged me towards the side of the building where it was hidden from public sight.

"Just keep walking Matt, you're in for a big surprise. Don't panic, you'll enjoy what's coming."
