Westlife Romance - Part 16
It was after a split second of shock that Kian began to chase after Nicky. But his attempt was scuttled when he was grabbed by Bryan.
"Don't you fucking dare to go near him, Egan. Haven't you done enough damage??" Bryan warned threateningly. If looks could kill, Kian would have died on the spot. After the blunt warning, Bryan went after Nicky, leaving Kian in the hands of Mark and Shane.
"I can't believe you, Kian...I can't fucking believe you," yelled Shane angrily. He threw a fist at Kian, sending the younger boy sprawling to the floor. The assault would have continued if Mark hadn't stopped Shane.
"Stop it, Shane," Mark commanded as he tried to restore some sense of order to the situation. "Killing Kian isn't going to help any." With some difficulty, Mark managed to drag Shane into his room so that he could calm himself down. After getting Shane settled down somewhat, Mark reemerged from the room to find Kian still on the floor of the hallway, a stunned look on his face. Mark sighed and knelt down to help Kian up off the floor. It was another few minute before Mark finally helped Kian into the room that the blond singer shared with Nicky.
"I...I'm sorry," Kian finally managed to whisper. Mark sat down beside his band mate, not really knowing what to say. But the silence was killing Kian; he just couldn't stand it. "Mark, why aren't you yelling at me?" he questioned.
Mark sighed. "Look Kian, I'm certainly not going to say that what you did to Nicky was right. But I don't think it'll help the situation much if everyone started finger-pointing and casting blame," Mark reasoned. "What I do think we need to do is first calm down, and then work this out in a civilized manner. I mean, after all, we still have to work with each other in the coming days."
"I...I don't know if I could face him again..."
"Kian, you really don't have a choice in this matter. I know that deep down, you knew this day was going to come eventually. It was only a matter of time."
"I swore that I wouldn't hurt him again, Mark," Kian continued. "I mean, Derek was supposed to leave for Dublin tomorrow and then things were going to be back to normal. This was the last time we were supposed to meet..."
"If you really love Nicky, you have to find some way to get him to forgive you and to trust you again...unless you're ready to give up..."
"No!!" Kian exclaimed amidst his tears. "I don't want to lose him. I really don't!!"
Bryan walked all over the hotel, trying to locate Nicky. His mind was awash in emotions. He was furious that Kian could hurt Nicky this way yet at the same time, his heart ached for what Nicky must be feeling. He looked so hurt when he was in the hallway. Bryan wanted so much to take that hurt away, but he knew that it was impossible; the best he could do was to help make it less painful.
It was when Bryan passed by the stairway that he caught a glimpse of his friend. Even though Nicky's back was facing him, Bryan could tell that he was crying. He quietly opened the door to the stairway and sat down beside Nicky. Instinctively, he wrapped his arms around his friend's shoulders, trying his best to shelter him and to comfort him. But it was at the same time very awkward for Bryan. After all, what was he supposed to say? That everything would be okay? That would be a total lie. Or that things might not be as bad as they seemed? That would be even worse. In the end, Bryan didn't say anything, and opted to just be there for Nicky.
It was a few minutes before Nicky finally acknowledged Bryan's presence. When Nicky finally met Bryan's gaze, the younger boy was met with a face stained by tears.
"Nix...I'm so sorry..." was all Bryan could manage to say.
"He...he was everything to me...and now I've lost him..." Nicky buried his face in his hands and sobbed.
The more Nicky cried, the angrier Bryan got with Kian. "This is all Kian's fault," Bryan thought to himself. "He is the cause of Nicky's pain."
It was another few minutes before Bryan managed to convince Nicky to go back to his room. After all, the stairway wasn't the most private place. Once they were back in the security of Bryan's room, Nicky began to regain his composure somewhat. It was at this time that Nicky began to contemplate life without Kian and how he would cope with this void in his life. He was so deep in thought that he didn't notice Bryan coming back into the room with a hot cup of tea.
"Nix...have some tea...you'll feel better..." Bryan offered.
Nicky looked up at his younger band mate and managed a weak smile. "Thanks, Bry..." As he drank the tea, Nicky glanced at the clock and noticed that it was well after midnight.
"Where are you going, Nix?" Bryan asked as the older boy stood up.
"It's late, Bryan..." Nicky answered. "You should get some sleep."
"And what about you?"
"I'll be fine...don't worry about me..."
"Nix, why don't you stay here tonight?"
"Thanks Bryan. I'll be okay. I really don't want to intrude."
"Don't be silly, Nicky. You're not intruding at all."
"You sure you're okay with this?" Nicky asked with an uncertain tone of voice.
"100% sure," Bryan answered with a smile. "I'll go over and bring your stuff over." With that, Bryan left the room and headed over to the room that Nicky shared with Kian.
After Bryan left, Nicky sat on the bed, thinking about the events that have transpired. "Why didn't Kian want me?" he asked himself. "What did I do wrong?..." Then another thought occurred to him. "I wore out my welcome with Kian...and now I'll throwing all my problems at Bryan...eventually I'll probably wear out my welcome with Bry too...I'm not going to let that happen again..." With that thought still fresh in his mind, Nicky grabbed his jacket and walked out of Bryan's room.
