What Happened in Highschool Chapter 17

It was after 2am when we all finally decided to call it a night. Kurt had swapped numbers with the hunk he had been dancing with, and who happened to be a uni student. Hot. And played guitar. Hotter.

Aaron had his arm tightly around me as we headed off, stumbling only slightly, to find a taxi. The driver was an Indian guy who seemed to love Rhianna or whoever it was who sings that awful Umbrella song.

"You like?" He asked Kurt who was sitting in the front seat. Kurt smiled politely. So he turned it up a bit. Jesus.

Then he started telling us about how he grew up in the Punjab and how there were little opportunities there so he came to Australia.

"I have a doctorate in Medicine. I moved here so I could work as a doctor and all I can do is drive taxi's and send money back home." He shook his head sadly.

I sympathized. That was really shit. "That's awful. Can you join some kind of job agency?"

He shrugged. "Does not help me. Australians do not want any more foreign doctors."

That got me started and for the next twenty minutes we had a massive discussion about social justice and how racist Australia actually is. Kurt added the occasional comment and Aaron watched with an amused look on his face.

The guy was really smart and had some very interesting ideas that made me think. Despite my slightly inebriated state of mind we had a really good discussion. When he dropped us off I added in a large tip and shook his hand.

"Good luck with everything. You deserve to succeed." I told him and he smiled at me.

"I'm glad to know some people think so."

After the taxi drove off Aaron turned to me with a grin. "You're such a socialist!"

Kurt groaned as I got ready with another tirade. "I'm not a socialist, I just believe in some socialist principals. Namely those who treat human beings as human beings and not as part of a whole superstructure and-"

Kurt interrupted. "Aaron don't get him started. Especially when he's pissed."

Aaron just smiled and wrapped his arms around me. "I'm glad you're so passionate."

I narrowed my eyes at him. Was he being patronizing? Aaron just smiled and kissed my forehead. Definantly patronizing.

We made our way as quietly as drunk teenagers can, into my room. Kurt was sleeping on a mattress on the floor and Aaron was sleeping in my bed. Wait. Aaron was sleeping in my bed. This would be the first time we slept together. Pity Kurt was in the room.

As we got ready for bed Kurt turned and gave me and Aaron very stern looks. "I don't want to hear any grunting, sucking, panting or moaning from either of you understood?"

Aaron went bright red but I grinned. "And I don't want to hear any rustling sheets or grunting from you!"

Kurt rolled his eyes. "You're so immature Matt. If I wanted to wank I'll just go to the bathroom!" He winked at me and then snuggled down on the mattress.

Me and Aaron climbed into bed. We all lay there for a moment in silence. Shit. The light was still on.

"Shotgun not turning out the lights!" I called out suddenly, very pleased with my preemptive ability. Yep I know, real mature.

"Shotgun second!" Kurt called out a second later. I could see him grinning at Aaron who looked perturbed.

"You're closest!" He fired back at Kurt.

"So? It still means I have to get out of this comfortable warm environment and what, take three less steps than you?" Kurt answered. "Besides the power of shotgun votes you, man!"

Aaron groaned. He clambered out of bed and made his way to the door. The light off, we listened to him as he stumbled back to bed letting out the occasional swear word.

Aaron and I snuggled in together and got comfortable. "Love you Matt."

One minute we were awake and the next I was woken by the dreaded sounds of the vacuum cleaner right outside the door. It banged against the door a suspicious amount of times before moving on. I opened one eye and glanced at the bedside clock. Nine o'clock on a Saturday!

I groaned when the vacuum turned off and Janis Ian's voice floated through the house. Are mum's naturally evil or do they thrive in seeing their children tortured?

"Your mum's trying to annoy us." Kurt stated from the mattress.

"No shit. Muuum!" I yelled out.

The door opened and her smiling cheery face looked in. "Yes dear?"

"Don't dear me. Why you gotta be mean?" I whined at her.

"Why Mattias, I am simple housewife enjoying the simple pleasures of cleaning a house. Good morning Kurt, how are you feeling today?" She smiled sweetly at him.

Kurt smiled back. I knew he loved the motherly attention. "I'm ok Anna. Thanks for asking."

"That's good dear. Now because I was in a very motherly mood this morning I made you all crêpes. So if you don't get up in the next fifteen mintues you wont get them." She was back out the door as fast as she appeared. Janis Ian's voice became even louder.

"Awwww." I whined then turned to see why Aaron was so quiet. He was still asleep. Jesus. The boy could sleep through anything.

I nudged him. I blew on his face. Dead to the world. Kurt had got up and was headed, boxer clad with crazy bed hair, towards the bathroom.

"I call first shower!"

I didn't even bother to argue as he hurried out as if I was chasing him. No, my concentration was now on interesting ways to wake Aaron up.

With a grin I reached down and cupped his balls through his boxers. No response. I squeezed them gently. Nope. I moved forward and kissed his neck when suddenly Aaron was on top of me. He grinned down at me.

"Morning sunshine!"

I stared at him in shock. The little shit. He leant down and kissed me softly.

I gave him a disgruntled look. "Do you deserve a kiss?"

He laughed. "I always do." He started kissing me and frankly I couldn't think of a reason why he didn't.

We all hung out over the weekend. Kurt and Aaron seemed to have put aside their differences and got on remarkably well. It seemed like one big happy family.

That's why when my father called on Sunday we were all a bit shocked. Mum came back into the living room looking disturbed.

"Mum! What's wrong?" I demanded.

"That was Richard. Your brothers run away. Richard seems to think that he'll come here. Oh please god let him come here." Mum looked distressed so I sat her down in the kitchen with a cup of tea and Kurt murmuring comfort and snuck out with my phone to try and call Liam.

He picked up after a few rings. I could tell he was freaking out.

"Liam! Are you ok? Where are you?" I said quickly.

"Matt, I don't know. Dad wouldn't let me come down here that much and I can't remember how to get to your house. I've been catching trains around all day hoping something looked familiar!"

God, there was something very innocent and a little sad about that. I calmed down. "Its ok Liam. Do you know where you are now?"

"Richmond maybe. I think. It says South Richmond at the train station." His voice was calming down too.

"That's ok. I'm going to come and get you ok? Just stay there. And don't talk to anyone."

"Dad keeps calling my mobile but I don't want to talk to him ok? Can you wait before you tell him?" Liam asked softly and almost childlike.

"Yeah. Don't worry about that ok. I'll see you soon."

I went back inside to find everyone in the kitchen. "I just talked to him, he's fine. Aaron could you do me a huge favour and drive me to where he is? I'll give you petrol money."

Aaron nodded quickly. I insisted that mum wait with Kurt. On the drive to Richmond me and Aaron hardly spoke but it was oddly comfortable and comforting.

Arriving at the station I raced out and looked around for Liam. I found him huddled on a seat looking lost and forlorn. The first thing he said when I reached him was. "My ipod batteries ran out."

Ah! I grabbed him. "Why didn't you call me you silly bugger?"

Liam hugged me and suddenly I felt moisture seep through my top. I sighed and hugged him back hard.
