When Earth Has No Women: Chapter 2
At the northernmost corner of the Ladville forest, an entrance to a cavern is located. It stood to at least 25 feet with a width stretching to 15 feet. But the cave narrows a great deal if you go further inside. At the end of the cavern, where the stalactites and stalagmites almost met, a triangular hole connects the cave to a wide open area surrounded by a circular wall of rocks and tall trees. There, the people built their huts. They used the natural fortress as a replacement for the wrecked villages. They refer to the place as The Huts. The Huts probably spans up to 250 meters in diameter. There stood a total of 45 huts. The five youngsters of the group sleep in the same hut with their family member while the rest have their own huts. The space is plenty enough to serve as home for the fifty men of the Ladville forest.
Every night, a big bonfire is lit in the middle of the huts. The people gathers around and eat, just like in a normal camping. They eat on leaves as they lacked utensils. Their clothes are ragged and tattered. Sometimes, they wear it for days or weeks.
All the mechanical inventions of men are erased. It is unbelievable and gruesome for the extraterrestrials to clear any trace of advanced civilization on Earth. They left everything to crumbles, so that even how hard the remaining mankind try to build it again, their efforts would be futile.
But the bonfire is lit every night to symbolize that men had not lost everything at all. Their ability to build does not falter. Rumors have it that in a forest at the same continent, men are starting to build big structures. It's in the blood of men to build, invent, and discover. The bonfire highlights their discovery of fire and how it changed the lives of their ancestors. Fire will enlighten them whatever the situation is.
The illuminated faces of men sat facing each other inside the protection of the fortress. The men of Ladville have hearts that wish for no more. They have adjusted to their own situations. They knew that wishing would just bring earned disappointment, except for one them -- Tyron.
Tyron wishes and desires for more. He wishes and desires for Wilhelm.
After the incident at the falls, Wilhelm kept avoiding him. It had been three days, and Tyron feels hopeless and devastated. He glooms as he sat on one of the logs, occasionally glancing at Wilhelm who wouldn't even look at him.
Tyron never felt this way before. He was famous with the girls, and it had never been hard for him to get anyone he wanted. Wilhelm is very different from them. But he doesn't blame him. He utterly understands why Wilhelm reacted that way. He is probably thinking that Tyron could not contain his lust anymore and is willing to pounce at anyone he sees. Tyron sighed.
"How can I show him that what I felt is genuine?" he thought silently. "Why do I realize this feeling so late? Now, Wilhelm sees me as nothing but a horny man who lost his girlfriend."
"Damn!" he unintentionally said out loud.
"What's the matter with you?" his dad, who was sitting beside him, said.
"Nothing," he said weakly.
He looked at Wilhelm's direction. Wilhelm caught him looking, and their gaze met. But Wilhelm was quick to turn away. Tyron hit the log he was sitting with his fist.
"For goodness's sake, what's wrong with you?" his dad said, curiously.
Tyron felt the sting in his fist. The uneven texture of the log abraded the skin of his fingers. His knuckles were bruised. He wiped the few drops of blood on his dilapidated pants. He sulked the rest of the evening.
The moon shone directly above the fortress. It was a brimming moon. Moonlight and silence reigned over the forest. The familiar twittering of nocturnal insects is the only sound that could be heard.
Tyron lays sleeplessly in his own hut. The mound of straws he was laying felt ten times uncomfortable. He tossed and turned, but sleep wouldn't come to him. His mind wanders to the next hut beside him where Wilhelm is probably sleeping peacefully.
A few moments deeper into the night, the still awake Tyron heard a movement on the next hut. He knew for sure that it was Wilhelm. He immediately went out of his hut and followed the shadow.
Wilhelm stopped in front of one of the humongous trees and unzipped his pants. He let his piss flow toward the bottom of the tree.
"Will," Tyron called from behind him.
The frightened Wilhelm turned around and spewed the rest of his piss onto Tyron's dilapidated pants.
"Goodness, Ty! You scared me! Why do you keep coming from behind?" Wilhelm blushed. His hands fingering his organ back to his pants.
"Can we talk?" Tyron asked, ignoring the warmth of his soaked pants.
Wilhelm stared at him and saw his sleep-deprived eyes.
"Okay," he said.
They walked, at least a meter apart from each other, silently towards Wilhelm's hut. They sat at the door and stared at the darkness. No one spoke for a while. Tyron was the first one to break the silence.
"Will. About the other day, I... "
"It's okay if you would tell me now that was just a prank," Wilhelm said.
"Do you still think it was just a prank?" Tyron said, quite hurt. "Don't you trust me? Is that what you really think of me?"
"It's not that I don't trust you. It's just... an extreme impossibility for you to like me." Wilhelm sighed.
"But it's true, Will! It really happened. And I didn't start to love you just recently. I have loved you ever since. I just realized it too late."
"Well, if it is true that you..." Wilhelm was reluctant to say the word. "That you liiike me. Then--"
"I don't like you, Will," Tyron said interrupting him. "I love you."
Wilhelm rolled his eyes. "Ok. If that's true then, did you even think how I feel for you? You keep telling me you lik--, love me. What if I don't feel the same way as you? Didn't you think you're forcing yourself to me?"
"Then what do you feel about me, Will? Do you only see me as a friend?" Tyron said in a brittle voice. Wilhelm was surprised and softened at seeing this side of his beloved friend.
"Ty, I..." Wilhelm stopped. "I have never planned for you to know, but I have to admit. I-I liked you too ever since. I didn't tell you because I know it would be useless. And I'm afraid you would stop being my friend if you knew that I am like this."
Wilhelm bowed his head in embarrassment. He never really thought of confessing to Tyron. He knew Tyron wouldn't like him back. That's why he got angry thinking Tyron was fooling him.
Tyron grabbed the chance. He raised Wilhelm's head and brought their lips together for a second time. Tyron felt the feeling so right. He had never felt like this before when kissing girls. When it's with Wilhelm, he felt his whole body tingles. Sparks became visible everywhere. What else could it be other than love?
Wilhelm too felt so right. How many times did he fantasized about Tyron and him kissing? Now, it's happening for real. But disbelief still clouded his heart. A drop of tear fell from the corner of his left eye. He pushed him away.
"Stop it. You only see me as a substitute. Yes, a substitute! Because Sarah is not here anymore." More drops of tears fell on Wilhelm's cheeks.
"I didn't love Sarah the way I love you! Please Will, believe me. Let me prove it to you, " Tyron's eyes began to water too. He went closer to Wilhelm and hugged him so tight. "I love you, Will. I really, really love you."
Tyron did not let go of Wilhelm. He held him as he cried tears of love. Wilhelm had never seen him cry before. The Tyron he knew would never cry. He didn't cry even when a girl broke up with him. He didn't cry when the unknown beings from space kidnapped the girls he loved, her mom and Sarah. But now, Tyron is crying like a child on Wilhelm's shoulders.
"Hey. Stop crying," Wilhelm said.
"I will if you stop crying too," Tyron answered.
Wilhelm can't help but chuckle. Tyron could be childish sometimes. He raised his head when he heard Wilhelm chuckled. He grabbed Wilhelm's hand and intertwined it with his.
"Will. Please give me a chance. I will prove to you how much I love you," he pleaded.
Wilhelm looked at him, and his heart melted. He has always loved Tyron. From the first time he saw him, he fell for him. Tyron confessing his love for him is a faraway dream for Wilhelm. But it has come true.
"O-Okay," Wilhelm said, with flushed cheeks.
Tyron's face is lit with joy. He squeezed Wilhelm's hand and kissed it. Wilhelm loves how romantic Tyron could be, but he wouldn't say it.
"Don't you want to change your pants? You reek of piss," Wilhelm said.
"I don't want to. It's your piss so it's alright," Tyron said, resting his head on his lover's shoulder.
"Gross!" Wilhelm said, and they both laughed heartily.
The two friends became even more closer to each other than they were before. No secret stood between them, only love and affection.
