When You Least Expect By Josh Blake
Chapter 30
We started packing and preparing to move almost immediately. Our realtor had a `For Sale' sign in the yard the following Monday, and by the end of the week, we had multiple offers on the house. We ended up accepting an offer for $20,000 over the asking price! That was definitely going to be a great start for Jackson's college fund!
"Babe, where are you?" I called for Braden as I walked through the house. Movers where everywhere carrying boxes and pieces of furniture to the truck.
"I'm in here," Braden called from Jackson's room. "I'm trying to find his hat. It's so cold outside today and I don't want him to get sick.
"I don't know where anything is," I said. "Just bundle him up good, and it'll be okay. I kissed him on the lips just as one of the movers walked into the room. He was an attractive, younger guy. His hair was brown but buzzed off close to his scalp. He definitely saw us kiss.
"We're about to start packing up this room, boss," the young man said to me. "Need anything out of here before we start?" He grinned at me and gave me a wink.
"I think we're good," Braden said. "We'll get out of your way in a moment."
I stepped out of the room with Jackson in my arms. Braden was still in the room packing a couple things into Jackson's bag.
"You're a lucky boy," I heard the young man say. "Nice husband, nice kid. Wish I could get a break like that."
"Thanks," I heard Braden say as he walked out of the room. He gave me a `what the hell' look as he joined me in the hallway. Once outside, Braden said "Well, that was weird."
"Yeah, he definitely has the hots for you," I said. "You want to take him in the bedroom and see what he's packing?" I laughed.
"No, you idiot," Braden laughed. "Besides, why would I want to see what he's packing when I have you. I know what you're packing."
"Good answer," I said, then leaned in to kiss him again.
"Well, I'll be damned." I looked up to see our neighbor from across the street, Tammy, walking up the driveway. "I never thought you two would actually move. I should kick your ass for leaving me here with old Marge, otherwise known as Mrs. Kravitz," Tammy said.
We all looked over toward Margie's house to see her standing in the window watching us. When she saw us look her way, she quickly dropped the curtain and moved away.
"I truly hate it for you," I said.
"Well, I can't kick your ass when you're holding such a beautiful bundle of joy!" Tammy exclaimed. "Can I hold him one last time?"
"Sure, but why is it the last time? You're coming to visit, right?" I asked.
"Yeah, I will, but it won't be like just walking across the street! You better come see me, too!"
"You know we will," Braden said.
"Hopefully someone decent will move in here and keep the neighborhood up," Tammy said.
"I think it's an older, single man," Braden said. "He's really handsome, too."
"Oh, really now?" Tammy said, perking up. "Is he...ummm..."
"If you're trying to ask if he's gay or straight, I have no idea," Braden said. "You'll just have to wait until he moves in and see what happens!"
Tammy was obviously excited about the idea of having some companionship and possibly a new friend on the street. As Braden and I put Jackson in the car seat and buckled him in the back of Braden's brand-new Toyota Camry, I felt a sense of homesickness already. I stared longingly at the house that had been my first home of my own.
"I know you're going to miss it here," Braden said. "It was your home long before it was my home."
"It's just a house," I said. "A home is where family is. As long as I'm with you and Jackson, and Lucas, I'll be home."
"I love when you say such profound things," Braden said, then kissed me on the lips. When I opened my eyes again, the attractive, young moving man was carrying a box toward the truck. He smiled at us again. He sat the box on the lift of the moving truck with some other boxes, then turned to walk back toward the house.
"I don't think we've officially been introduced," I said, stopping him and offering my hand. "I'm Josh, and this is my husband, Braden."
"I'm Brodie," the young man said, offering his hand to first me and then Braden.
"It's nice to meet you, Brodie," I said.
"You don't remember me, do you?" Brodie asked. Braden tensed up a little then gave me a look.
"I have to say I don't," I said. I was really hoping this wasn't some guy I hooked up with in the past.
"Senior English class, 2013," Brodie said. "I sat in the back of the room sleeping, most of the time, so I'm not surprised you don't remember me."
Now it made sense! Brodie was one of my students. I ran back through all of my kids over the years, searching my memory bank for a Brodie and trying to match his face to some of my students. Suddenly, I had it.
"Brodie Baker!" I said. "I do remember you! It has been a few years, though."
"Yeah, it has. I was kind of shocked to see that this was your house, and that you were married with a kid," he said.
"Well, all of this happened very suddenly. 2020 was a busy year."
"It was for all of us," he said. "I heard about you getting shot and then taking in that kid. I always knew you were a good guy. You always treated me fairly, even when you didn't have to."
"That's what teachers do," I said. "So other than working here, what are you doing with your life?"
"Just working. That's it for now. I've wanted to go back to school, but I haven't had the opportunity." Brodie said.
"Are you married? Any kids?"
Brodie laughed. "I guess you never caught me staring at you in class either. I'm gay like you guys, so no kids and definitely no wife."
"You don't have to have a wife to be married," I said. "Look at us."
"Yeah, that's just still so new, I always just think about being married to women when people ask that question," he said.
"I get that," I said. "So, no boyfriend, either?"
"No, not at the moment, but I'm always looking if you know of anyone," Brodie laughed.
"I'll keep that in mind," I said. "I think we are going to walk through the house one more time before we head over to the new place."
"Yeah, we are almost finished. There's just a few more boxes left to load up and then we'll be out of here, too," he said.
Braden and I walked back through the house one more time. There were so many memories in that house, but I realized that most of the memories I had were of me alone. I didn't realize how lonely I was before Braden came into my life. I enjoyed my single life, but I enjoyed life as a husband and a father so much more.
We drove over to Mark and Bonnie's house to let them know that we were on our way to our new home. Their house was in a similar state of disarray, as they were in the process of packing things that they were going to move over to their new house. Since Austin wanted to finish the school year at his current school, Mark and Bonnie had decided to alternate who would stay home with him. Once he finished the school year, their house would go on the market as well.
"Lucas, come on, it's time to go!" I yelled up the stairs.
"They are probably saying their goodbyes," Bonnie said. "They've been up there for a while."
"I don't know why they are acting like they'll never see each other again. They're going to be living so close that I'm sure one of them will be at the other's house all the time," I said. "I'll go up and see what's taking so long."
I approached Austin's closed bedroom door and was just about to knock when I heard one of the boys moan. I rolled my eyes and mumbled "You have to be kidding me" under my breath.
"Yeah man, suck my dick. That's so good." It was Lucas's voice I was hearing. I debated just giving them time to finish, then I looked at my watch and realized we needed to get going. I knocked on the door.
"Sorry to interrupt, guys, but we need to get going. I need you downstairs in 5 minutes, Lucas."
I didn't wait for a response. They listened, however, as about five minutes later the two flushed boys came walking down the stairs.
"I don't know why I have to come now," Lucas said. "I have my car. Can't I just come later?"
"Absolutely not," Braden said before I had the chance to speak up. "You are too new of a driver to be on the freeway by yourself. I want you trailing us, so we are at least all together. And I don't want you driving after dark. If we don't leave now, it's going to get dark on us."
"Fine, Dad." Lucas groaned. It was the first time he had called Braden Dad." Although Lucas was not happy at the moment, I could see Braden was happy with Lucas calling him Dad.' I have to admit, Braden's assertiveness turned me on. He had been assertive with me early in our relationship, but he had mellowed out as time passed. I was going to have to use that to my advantage later.
"Alright, let's roll," I said. We all hugged Mark and Bonnie and said our goodbyes with Austin before making a convey toward the new house. We took the road past the old house one last time. The movers were gone, but the realtor's car was in the driveway. She was adding a Sold' sign to the For Sale' sign in the yard. We would officially hand over the keys in a couple days when we all met for the closing process, but we had no intentions of going back in. We had given the new owner the go ahead to start moving some things in. He was coming from out of state, so he welcomed the opportunity to start the process early.
A couple hours later, we arrived at David's house, which was now our house! David was still there packing some of his belongings. We had agreed that he could stay whenever he didn't want to drive all the way to the lake house that he now shared with his boyfriend, Robert.
The price that David accepted from us for the house was so low that we told him he could stay in any room he wanted to. We even told him he could keep the master suite, but he refused. He elected to take a bedroom in the basement. It had its own bathroom, and it was possible to come and go from the house through the downstairs without interrupting anyone upstairs.
The movers quickly got everything out of the truck and into the house. Braden took charge of telling them where to take furniture, while Lucas and I handled the boxes. We also realized that we did not have nearly enough furniture to fill up this house! Thankfully, David didn't have use for a lot of his furniture, and he allowed us to buy what we wanted from him. He refused any additional money, but he finally relented when we told him to put it in a fund for Ryan.
Mom arrived with Jackson in time for most everything to be moved into the house.
"Mercy me," Mom said as she walked into the master suite where Braden and I were. "I do love this house, but cleaning it is going to be the death of me."
"I already told you, Mom, we don't expect you to clean this whole house. We are going to hire someone."
"I hate for you to have to pay for that," she said. "I'll figure something out."
"Right now, you can figure out which bedroom you want," I said. "Do you want upstairs or downstairs?"
"Well, the stairs are rough on my knees," she said, "but if I'm down there and I need to tend to the baby at night, I'd have to come upstairs anyway."
"Why don't you take the downstairs bedroom. It has its own bathroom and its really nice," Braden said. "We don't want you to have to tend to Jackson at night. We can handle that."
"Well, I won't argue with that," Mom said. "If you ever do go away for the night, I can sleep upstairs or bring him downstairs with me."
"Did I hear you guys say you're looking to hire a housekeeper?"
We all turned around to see Brodie standing in the doorway. He was bringing a couple boxes into the master bedroom.
"We do need to find someone," I said. "Do you have any recommendations?"
"Yeah, me!" Brodie said.
I looked at Braden. He shrugged his shoulders.
"I know what you're thinking. You don't think a guy can be a housekeeper. I swear I'll do a good job. I clean up after my little brother all the time. I know how to do laundry, and I can cook."
"We don't need anyone to cook," I said. "Mom will handle that. We just need someone maybe three days a week to handle laundry and keep the house clean. Things that Mom just can't do as well anymore."
"Hey, I'm not that old, you know," Mom said.
"I can do it," Brodie said. "And I can use the extra money to start saving for college. Give me a chance, and if I don't do what you want, you can fire me. I'll walk away with no hard feelings."
"What about your job with the moving company?" I asked.
"I can still do that, too. I work mostly Saturdays and a couple days during the week. If I work here on Mondays and Wednesdays, and maybe Tuesday or Thursday, I can still work for them on the other days.
I looked at Braden again for confirmation. He just nodded. I looked to Mom. She just shrugged her shoulders.
"I'll tell you what," I told Brodie. "Give us this week to get settled in. Then, you be here next Monday at 8:00 in the morning. Mom will get you started and show you around. We'll call next week a trial week. You can work until about 1:00 each day. That's fifteen hours a week. I'll pay you $200 a week. How does that sound?"
"That sounds awesome, Mr. Patterson. You won't regret it, I promise!"
"I hope I won't," I laughed.
We spent the rest of the evening getting stuff put away the best we could. Mom was downstairs, and we put Jackson in one of the bedrooms down the hall from us. Lucas's bedroom was also on this floor. He chose the one at the far end of the hall that had a Jack and Jill bathroom that attached to another bedroom next to it. We decided to put Jackson in the room attached to the other side of the bathroom.
Exhausted, Braden and I finally collapsed into our bed in our new master suite after getting the sheets on it. We still needed to unpack most of our clothes, but that could wait. We were both happy that we each had our own walk-in closet!
"I have an idea," Braden said. "Let's go play in the huge tub in our bathroom."
"That sounds fun. Come on," I said.
We got out of bed and stripped off our clothes. We were both naked in just a few seconds. We went into the bathroom and turned on the water as hot as we could stand it. I lit a candle, then turned off the lights. The tub was easily large enough for both of us to fit inside it. Once the tub was full, we turned on the jets.
"Oh my God! This is heaven!" Braden moaned.
"Move over to this side and sit between my legs," I said. Braden moved over and leaned his body back into mine. We stayed in that position for quite a while. I had by arms around Braden, tweaking his nipples and stroking his growing cock. My cock was hard as well.
"It feels like someone is enjoying himself," Braden said seductively.
"Mmmmm. How would you know?" I asked.
"Because I can feel it poking into my back," he laughed, reaching behind himself to grab my cock, giving it a couple strokes.
"Keep that up and you're going to have cum in the water," I said.
"I have a better idea for where you cum can go," Braden said. He raised up just enough to line my cock up with his hole. He sat back down, impaling himself on my cock. We had fucked so much that my cock just fit inside his hole with little resistance. Don't get me wrong. He was still tight, but he fit me like a glove.
"Fuck that feels good," Braden said as he fucked himself with my cock.
"Damn babe. That feels amazing," I said. "Doing it in the water just adds to the pleasure."
I reached around and grabbed Braden's engorged cock, pumping it in rhythm with his up and down motions. Pretty soon, I felt his cock start to throb. I had done this enough that I knew his orgasm was coming quickly.
"I'm about to bust," Braden announced.
"Go for it babe. Shoot that load!" I said. Before I finished my sentence, Braden was gushing a huge amount of cum into the water. Of course, that caused his ass to clamp down on my cock, causing me to start pumping my cum into his ass.
By the time we finished and came down from our orgasms, the water was turning cold. We got out of the tub and dried each other off.
"I better go check on the baby," I said.
"Yeah, I'll come with you," Braden said, pulling up his underwear. We headed down the hall toward Jackson's room in just our underwear to check on him. We walked in his room to find the crib empty.
"Where is he?" I said. "I guess Mom came up and got him."
"He's over here, guys," Lucas said from his room. We went through the bathroom and into Lucas's room to find him sitting on his bed holding Jackson.
"Poor little guy was crying his eyes out," Lucas said. "I guess you guys were too busy." He put emphasis on `busy' and grinned.
"I'm sorry, Lucas," I said. "You're not here to be a babysitter. Here, I'll take him."
"No, it's fine, actually," he said. "After all you guys have done for me, the least I can do is take care of the little guy sometimes. It's kind of nice, actually. I always wanted a little brother. Now I have one."
I have to admit, tears welled up in my eyes when he said that. What teenage boy is just willing to take care of a baby?
"We appreciate it," Braden said, "But if he gets to be too much, you come knock on our door. Once we unpack the baby monitor, we'll come when we hear him. You don't have to be responsible for him all the time."
"No," I added. "But we do appreciate you being willing to help us out with him. Especially since it's hard for Mom to get up and down the stairs.
"It's fine," he said again. "Besides, it sounded like you guys were having a lot of fun." He laughed again.
I looked at Braden, and I'm pretty sure I turned red.
"Could you really hear us?" Braden said
"Well, I couldn't hear everything, but I heard enough to know what was going on. But it's okay. As long as you don't say anything if you ever hear Austin and me when he stays over."
I rolled my eyes and looked at Braden. "I guess I'd rather you do it here than out somewhere," I said. "Here, let me have the baby. I'll put him back to bed, and you get some sleep."
"He's quiet now, so he should sleep," Lucas said. Before he handed Jackson back to me, he kissed him softly on the forehead. Jackson just cooed.
"You're a great big brother," I said to Lucas. "And a great son."
"You're a pretty good dad," he said back to me. "And so are you," he said to Braden. "Even though you really could be my older brother."
We all laughed at the remark. We said goodnight to Lucas, then put Jackson back to bed. We walked back to our bedroom, said goodnight to each other, and then we were asleep. I don't think either of us realized how exhausted we were.
