Part Eight
Zeke got up and poked his head out the window. The inhabitants of Heaven were all walking towards the huge thatched roof of the dining hall, talking excitedly to each other.
"What's going on?" He called out. A boy of no more than nineteen turned and called back.
"Gabriel's going to make an announcement. I think we're going after Conner." He shouted. "Someone said Enoch the new guy, has a plan to take the President out."
"I hope I do." I shrugged.
Zeke looked over his shoulder at me. "You do, and that's what's got them excited."
I knew we couldn't tell everyone in camp about the Razorfish or that we were going to be using DatManDead as the decoy. I realized the importance of keeping the true nature of the plan secret. My Grandfather had told me how the nations motto during World War Two had been 'Loose lips sink ships' and we couldn't chance someone sinking our 'ship'. We only had the one shot at this. And Conner was already moving quickly.
Thinking of Zekes family, I asked about his Father.
"Is your Father a Mormon, too?" I asked.
As Ezekiel flopped his naked body down next to mine, he spoke up.
"No, my Father's British and in His Majesty's Royal Air Force. He's here in Belize with the elite paratrooper forces. He's the base commander of their Jungle Training Camp. My brother's there too."
"How old's your brother?" I asked.
"Same age." Zeke replied, then turned to face me. "Twins." He stated.
"You have a twin brother?" I quizzed, feeling somewhat surprised.
"Yep, Identical Twin." He sighed. "Almost. Danny's not gay."
"You got any other family?" I asked.
"Nope." He sighed. "What about you, Andy? Where's your family?"
I sighed deeply before I began.
"They've all died." I explained. "My Dad was 50 when I was born. He died from a heart attack when I was ten. Mom wasn't that old, but she got cancer and died the year after Dad. I went to live with my Grandfather, but he died when I was sixteen. I applied for adult status and the courts granted it. I met Terry when I was seventeen and he's been my family ever since. Until Conner killed him. Now, I'm an orphan again."
As I finished, my shoulders began to jerk in rhythm and I hung my head. As tears began tracking down my face, Ezekiel put his arm around me.
"You're not an orphan." He said softly. "I love you."
I looked up through tears and asked "Really? Do you really love me?"
He nodded his head and smiled. Zeke leaned over and kissed my forehead.
"Really." He said and hugged me tighter.
Zeke heard footsteps coming up to the doorway and quickly threw a blanket over us. As he did so, a knock resounded on the door.
"Yeah, who is it?" He called.
"It's Brian." The voice answered.
"OK, Brian. Come on in." Zeke said.
Brian opened the door saying "Gabriel sent me to....."
He stopped mid-sentence as his eyes fell upon the two of us, huddled together and obviously naked lying beneath the blanket.
"Oh, I......Well, excuse me. I thought you said come in." He stuttered and began to back out the door.
"Come in, Brian." I said. "We haven't got time to be shy."
"Oh, dear...." He sighed. "I guess you're right."
Averting his eyes from us, the embarrassed boy began.
"Gabriel is going to make an announcement and he wants the two you there. It's urgent business, he says."
"OK." I said and got up. Brian glanced at my naked body and muttered. "Oh, my god...".
He turned around to gaze out the window while I began putting my clothes on. Looking at Zeke I asked If he was going to get ready.
"You coming?" I asked. "He said he wanted the two of us there."
"Oh......OK." He sighed and stood. Zekes rigid member stood straight out in front of him. Brian glanced over his shoulder
"Ahhhhh!..." He uttered sounding distressed.
"What's wrong, Brian?" I teased. "Never seen an eight incher before?" Zeke turned bright red and began to quickly dress.
"Yes, but not HIS eight incher!" The embarrassed Brian replied. "Mercy!"
I quickly finished and told Zeke I'd meet him outside. I exited and descended to the bottom of the stairs where I waited.
Zeke finished getting dressed and said "OK, let's go."
"Lucky bastard!" Brian remarked as Zeke stepped past him. "He's REALLY cute naked!"
"Bite me." Zeke retorted.
"I wish!" Brian replied as they exited into the sunlight.
They joined me at the bottom of the stairs and we walked swiftly to the Dining Hall. I heard Gabriels voice announce as we entered.
"OK, I see Enoch and Ezekiel have arrived. Let's begin."
He stood at the far side on a small platform and stared out at the group. "We've all heard the news today. Conner is moving faster than expected. Something you haven't heard yet has just come to us via our hack into British Military Communications. It appears that EU satellites have detected earth movers digging long open trenches near the former Nevada Research and Development Center, also know as Area 51. I don't think anyone needs me to tell them what those will be used for. Undoubtedly, Conner has begun exterminating his victims and the Europeans will react. As is policy, they will announce an end to economic trade with the US and perhaps even begin a blockade of other countries shipping in and out of the US. Conner will give them an ultimatum with a deadline. Once the deadline passes, he'll declare that a state of war exists between the US and the EU."
Gazing out at the silent group, Gabriel paused.
"He won't make the first move, however. He'll wait until the European Leaders make their own formal declaration of war and have delivered it to the US Ambassador. Then, before they can even start to carry out their plans, he'll stage an incident giving the appearance of an assault on a US ship, allowing him the 'right' to launch an all out attack. We know his plans from the messages we've intercepted and deciphered, thanks to the three VooDoo specialists here in camp."
Then Gabriel stopped and stared for a long moment. Putting his hands on his hips he looked at the silent crowd before him.
"That is, unless we stop him first." He said with an icy tone. "You've all read DatManDead and we've discussed the plot outlined in it before. I feel and the others who I've spoken with agree, we have to act now if we're going to act at all. So, I want to know right now who's willing to make this attempt. Let me also remind you, the chance of losing your life is nearly 100%. So, don't vote yes if you're not willing to make that sacrifice."
He gazed slowly around at the faces riveted on him.
"All in favor of making the attempt say 'aye'" Gabriel shouted.
A loud, resounding "AYE!" echoed throughout the Dining Hall.
"Those opposed, say 'Nay'". He shouted.
Silence. Not a single voice called out. Gabriel looked at the crowd.
"Those opposed?" He repeated.
Nothing, not a sound.
"Then we're unanimous." He said and added with a shout. "We're going to Washington!"
The entire group began cheering. My head spun around to look at them all. I couldn't believe it! Not a single one of them had wanted to shy away from the danger. Yet they were fully aware of the inevitably outcome. All knew the chance they'd be taking. All knew they would most likely die.
"OK, Now listen." Gabriel shouted. "You all know which group you belong to, so I want you to gather up at your groups hut and wait for the instructions. You're dismissed from this meeting."
As the crowd began to disperse into small groups heading here and there through the camp, I noticed Gabriel waving in our direction. He motioned for Zeke and I to join him and a group of perhaps ten others. We made our way over to the group and Gabriel introduced us.
"This is Enoch, however, I'm sure the members of our group know him as Andy van Ryan. But for the others in camp who don't know, always refer to him as Enoch, OK?"
The assembly muttered their agreement, so Gabriel continued.
"OK, Noah has a problem. Perhaps some of you have some ideas. Remember, we have to move quickly people. I give it two weeks at the most. Noah?" He said and all eyes turned towards Number One.
"We need to procure a signal beacon transmitter. The item we want is an SB-12R or SB-12S. There's only one source for these in Belize. The Jungle Training Camp run by Englands Royal Air Force. We're going to have to sneak in a steal at least one of these devices."
"Wait a minute!" I shouted. Turning to Zeke I asked quietly "Isn't that where your Father is?"
"Yeah..." He replied cautiously.
"Can you get me in to see him?" I questioned.
"Well, maybe.......I." Zeke paused, then answered. "Yes. I can."
"I don't think we'll need to sneak in there for anything." I called out, turning to face Noah. "Let me ask them for it."
"Ask Them?" He cried. "Andy, this isn't a cup of sugar you're asking for!"
"Yes, but I could be offering them a chance to avoid World War Three. Any soldier worth a shit knows avoiding losses of your own is the highest priority. Just let me try, OK?" I said to him.
Noah looked at Gabriel, who shrugged his shoulders. Turning to see the reactions of the others in the group, Noah received a silent vote from their eyes. Turning back to face me, he spoke up.
"OK, you have three days MAX!" He said. "And if you talk them into the transmitter, see if you can get us some night vision as well, OK Andy?"
'OK." I grinned.
