Chapter One: The White Wolf
Way back in the days of mid-evil times when kings ruled and wizards and everything was taken place change happened so rapidly. In the Old World of Britian, there was a well-known mage by the name of Ardaous. He was inside his house trying to sleep, when he heard a commotion going outside. The commotion sounded like wild beasts fighting. His only concern was to protect his wife and his son from any harm from whatever was making the commotion. So he slipped out of his bed and grabbed a torch and went to the front door.
When he reached the door he opened it carefully, so as if not to make a single sound. He only opened the door to an inch crack just to see what was going on. To his astonishment he saw a clan of black wolves, about seven to eight, gang up on a white but larger wolf.
He watched as the black wolves made wounds in the white wolf. Deep inside Ardaous' heart he felt sorry for the white wolf. He remembered a legend saying that if a human ever saved a white wolf, that the wolf would bring that family luck and protection. With this thinking and knowledge, Ardaous found enough courage to open the door and proceed outside to say the wolf from certain death.
Ardaous quietly walked towards the pack of wolves without being heard. When he was about six feet from them he closed his eyes and started chanting silently. One of the black wolfs heard his silent chant and leapt at Ardaous. Ardaous had his index and middle fingers from both hands touching with his eyes closed, "I call upon the might powers of the element of fire, burn brightly this night and burn with all your might!"
Ardaous opened his eyes just in time to see one of the black wolves jump towards him. Within mere seconds flames erupted around the pack of wolves. They all yelped in fear of being burned to death. They all jumped on the opposite end through the fire to make their escape.
The white wolf lay motionless on the ground. Ardaous was careful as he approached it. He could see that the animal was in great pain from the wounds that it was suffering. Ardaous was to feet away from the beautiful white creature crouched on his knees. He reached out his hands to touch the wounded animal. Not an inch from touching the wolf, it started to change form. Scared of what might happen, Ardaous stood up and backed away.
For what happened next took Ardaous by total surprise. The wolf took a form of a man naked. He quickly ran to the man's side and checked to see if the man was breathing. Ardaous laid the man on his backside. 'What in the bloody world just happened? What did I just witness? Should I have witnessed such a thing?' Ardaous had many questions flying through his mind.
Ardaous heard a faint breathing pattern from the man. "I pray to the gods with all my strength, give me your power to save this man tonight." Ardaous held his hands over the man's chest.
There was a warm soft glow between the man's body and Ardaous hands. With it came a sweet high-pitched humming noise that was pleasant to any hearing. Glittering sparks fell from Ardaous hands into the man's body. Ardaous concentrated with all the strength he had. The man's body soon began to glow with gold light. The wounds once were displayed on his skin soon shut at a rapid pace. The man opened his eyes and gasped for air. With this Ardaous stopped the spell and stood up.
The man was breathing hard and darting his eyes of his surroundings. The man's eyes then were fixed on a man in white under garments, standing about five foot seven with dark black hair. "Take it easy there, you just been through a lot this night." Ardaous told the man.
"Who are you? And what did you do to me?" The man questioned.
"I just saved your life sir, from those black wolves, and healed your wounds." Ardaous answered the man's question.
The man sat up and looked at his body for any signs of gashes, bruises and scratches. There was none to be found in sight. "I really appreciate your kindness..sorry, but what is your name sir?" The man asked.
"My name is Ardaous." He replied.
"Not thee mage Ardaous?" The man asked in awe.
"The same." Ardaous laughed.
"It is such an honor to meet you mage, a real treat. I am glad that you were in these surroundings this night." The man thanked Ardaous.
"Well it's a good thing that these surroundings has my house near by." Ardaous pointed towards his house.
"Then I am a very fortunate man to stumble on your estate fine mage." The man spoke again.
"I'm sorry but not to be rude, but not a few moments a go you were a white wolf, what kind a magic is that?" Ardaous grew with curiosity.
"Oh, then you must have seen 'them' trying to kill me then. Alright, I might as well explain." The man sighed, "This is no ordinary magic that you know of mage. This magic is of old, no knowledge exists to you mages."
Ardaous' face became more fascinated and curious. "The magic is--" The man cut himself off and looked around, "I can not speak of it here where there might be ears among us."
Ardaous looked around as well and agreed. "Would you like to stay in my house for the night. We have an extra place for you to sleep if that's alright." Ardaous extended his hospitality.
The man smile, "It's would be an honor. Oh excuse me, my manners have escaped me, you don't even know my name. My name is Daren. I will tell you more in the morn."
Both men went inside. Ardaous gave Daren a spare under garment and showed him the extra bed.
The dawning sun broke through the windows. Ardaous was already awake and busy with some chore that he had to do before his wife and son woke up. He went outside to get cut logs for a morning fire that were outside on the side of his house. He was caught of guard to see a pack of white wolves laying in the dewy grass. He was careful not to wake any of them up. He went back in to wake Daren to tell him about the pack of wolves.
When Daren woke up a little groggy he understood every word Ardaous was softly speaking. They both quickly went to the front door. As the door opened it creaked and the wolves woke up and stood up. "My family, I'm sorry to make you all worry with my not returning to the mansion." Daren apologized.
With the word 'mansion', Ardaous was starting to wonder who Daren really was. Ardaous then again witness the transformation of the wolves turning back to their human form. They all ran to Daren and hugged him. "We where so worried that 'they' might of killed you father." A young woman that didn't look more then 25 embraced her father with worry and relief.
"Well my dear daughter I was almost close to death, until the kindly mage Ardaous here drove 'them' away and then healed my wounds they put on me." Daren turned and all of their eyes where on Ardaous.
"The Ardaous mage?" One dark haired male said.
Ardaous nodded in reply. Daren's daughter walked up to Ardaous and suddenly hugged him. "We are thankful for the kindness, and thoughtfulness that you did for father, we are in your debt great mage." She let him go of her embrace and then knelt down on the ground.
All of the other family members followed in kneeling, including Daren for the thoughtless act that he performed the previous night. They all stood back up again, and Daren went over to Ardaous and put his hands on Ardaous' shoulders, for that as my daughter said we are in your debt. I hear by offer my clans protection of your family line for as long as we live and exist." Daren smiled.
Ardaous didn't know what to say or do. Finally after a moment, "I'm blessed with your offering and I accept. With that I shall to bestow an offering to you family, from my family. I will preform the spell of longevity on you families aging process, so you may protect my family and your family in any ways."
Ardaous was in a praying stance and mouthing words silently. His clasped hands started to glow. When he opened his eyes he opened his hands and Daren's family members had a distinctive glow around their outer bodyline. "Well then, I feel that we will have a strong bond between our families. I must return to my house this morn, but I will call for you to tell you all that I know." Daren smiled to Ardaous.
He walked backwards a few paces and spoke to his family, "We return to the mansion."
With that they all started to morph back into their wolf forms once more and ran towards their house. Ardaous stood where he was and waved them farewell.
Daren and the rest of his family members reached their house Daren told his daughter about the nights events. "Father, you should of took someone with you. It was very fortunate that you stumbled on the mage's estate and I'm grateful for him for saving you, but are you sure you want to tell him about the ancient spells, and magic? Is it wise?" His daughter asked him.
"I feel it in my being that Ardaous will not betray us or bring us any harm. After all he bestowed a gift unto us my darling Alisa. Now gather the family members and we will all discuss this matter amongst other matters. For the Steveson clan will be dealt with in one way or another. I also feel that our new mage friend will protect us as well, he will be a great allie." He smiled at Alisa.
"Yes father I'll convene all the members as you wish." Alisa rushed into the house to do what she was told.
At the gather there was much tenseness and hostileness. There were oppositions being shouted in the room. "How can we trust this mage? Can he keep our secret a secret?" A middle aged man stood up and shared his view.
"Arus, I think that we can put all our trust in the mage, for he has saved me and blessed our family with a gift." Daren brought another point up.
"That means nothing, what if he is working for 'them' and he's just tricking us to tell him the ancient spells?" Arus continued to agrue.
The other family members started to talk amongst their selves after Arus brought up his point. "I can see your point Arus, but can we all put all accusation on everyone that comes across our paths?" Daren raised another point.
Arus just stayed silent. "I feel that he will not only protect us, but will be a very resource mage against the Steveson clan." Daren paused for a moment, "So we must come to a decision. Do we tell the kindly mage our secret or not?"
"All of those who are against speak up now." Alisa asked.
There was no response. "All those in favor?" Alisa asked again.
They all raised their hands in approval. "Well then, we must welcome the mage into our house." Daren got up and left the room.
Hey everyone! Hope I didn't get anyone confused with this so far. The first couple of chapters will be likes this, cause I haven't gotten to what the main theme is yet. So, who is the Steveson Clan, and why did they attack Daren? What does all of this have to do with anything? All things will be revealed in good time. I hope I didn't leave anyone in suspense. If you liked this story so far and want to read more, please give me your remarks and input, and I'll get started on the next chapter. ~~~bluwolfboi
