Wolf Guardians: Chapter 4- Everything Is Revealed
The morning light peaked throw the creak between the curtains. The light fell on James' left eye. This irritated his eye and eventually opened them. The bright like welcomed him to another morning as he quickly shut his eyes and moaned. He rolled over and put his arms around a body. He opened his eyes again, and looked "Oh that's right I'm not at my place, silly me how could have I forgotten."
Then it dawned on him, last night he ached all over and had some sharp pain in places. He moved every muscle and bone that he could. He didn't feel any achiness or any pain. James just shrugged if off like it was nothing. James felt movement from beside him as Rance was waking up. James took his arm off of Rance. Rance rolled over to see James was awake and smiled, "Morning."
James smiled back, "Morning."
Rance leaned in to kiss James, but then pulled back. "Sorry, you're not use to being kissed are you?" Rance asked.
"Not really, but hey it's alright." James leaned and kissed Rance on his lips.
This totally took Rance by surprise. James removed the covers off of him and stood up. This took Rance even more by surprise, "Are you sure you should be up and moving around?"
"I feel like nothing happened. It's weird, even I can't explain it, it's like my body healed at a rapid pace." James explained as he turned his back to Rance.
As Rance looked at James a bulge started to raise the sheets. James smirked a little and turned away. This confused Rance and he look towards his lower body. His face turned bright red and put a pillow over his face. "If you can give me directions to the nearest bathroom." James tried not to laugh.
"It's to your left and the sixth door to your right." Rance muffled in the pillow.
The door opened and then closed behind James. James still had a smile on his face. "Good morning Mr. Matthew's." A voice greeted James.
James looked up and saw Vance in a robe. 'Whoa, he's a looker and a half.'
"M..morning. "James stuttered out.
Vance smiled, "I take it you had a nice rest since you're up and moving around?" Vance asked.
"Yes thank you, who are you?" James asked.
"My name is Vance. I'm Rance's cousin." Vance extended his hand to James.
James extended his hand out and shook Vance's hand. "Hate to run off in a hurry, but I really have to go and release some bladder pressure."
Vance smiled, and moved out of James' way. Vance watched James as he walked down the hall. "Now I can see why Rance is in love with him. I can feel his gentleness, his compassion, his warm heart, and not bad on the eyes. It's just to bad that it's Rance is that his soul mate and protector." Vance thought to himself as he saw the door that James opened.
Out stepped Rance, "Good morning Rance, I take it that you slept well." Vance wore a big smile.
"I slept, but nothing happened Vance, so you can get that big grin off your face." Rance chuckled.
Vance chuckled softly, "I can't get anything passed you."
After James released the pressure that was in his bladder, he looked at the glass door that led to the shower. "A shower sounds good." James went over and turned on the water.
He started to take off the clothes that he slept in.
The door to the bathroom opened and Rance looked up and saw James undressing. He made no sound and slowly closed the door, except for a crack. The only item of clothing James had on was his pair of gray ribbed boxer briefs. James pulled them down to his feet and took them completely off and went into the shower stall.
James grabbed the bar of soap and started lathering his legs first. He started to hum to himself as he thought the hot water felt good on him. He then lifted his left arm and got his under arm and pit. He then moved to the other arm and cleaned that. He took the soap bar and started to lather up his chest and torso. He washed his neck front and back letting the water from the shower wash away the suds.
He grabbed the bottle of shampoo and squeezed some in his hand. He then put his head under the pouring water and his hair with the shampoo. He rinsed out the suds in his hair turned off the water. He stepped of the stall and looked for a towel. He couldn't see one around. Then a towel was put in front of him. Rance had his eyes closed and covered with his hand. "Why thank you." James just smiled and blushed.
Rance just nodded. "Where you watching me all the time?" James asked.
Rance's face turned even redder, James tried not to laugh out to loud. "It's alright you can open your eyes now." James said.
Rance opened up his eyes and saw James with the towel wrapped around his waist. Nothing was said between them. "Well, I have the trouble of clothes. All my clothes are at my apartment." James sighed and sat on the toilet.
"Actually, we went and got your stuff. We couldn't take and chances with..anything going wrong." Rance blushed even more.
James just raised his eyebrow at Rance, "But for now until they get here, you'll have to fit in my clothes."
Rance opened up the door from the bathroom. James just followed along and went with Rance to his room. Rance's room was all in burgundy and gold. 'Very classy.' James thought as he looked around.
Rance opened up a large door to his closet. James looked inside the closet and saw many suits, shirts, pants and shoes. "Here try on this." Rance handed him a light blue, long sleeved, button up shirt.
James unbuttoned the shirt and put it on. He smelt a nice fragrance from the shirt. 'So this is the sent of Rance.' James was intoxicated with the smell.
James fixed his collar and finished buttoning the shirt. He then was handed a pair of black pants, black shoes and black socks. "Oh here." Rance went to his dresser and dug through it.
Rance threw a pair of black boxer briefs. "They will do for now until your stuff gets here. I'll be outside the door so you can get dressed the rest of the way." Rance went to the door and shut it.
James finished putting on the pants and everything Rance gave him. James looked in the mirror. James didn't like how the sleeves looked on him so he rolled them up a bit. The door opened and James looked over at Rance. Rance smiled, 'He looks even hotter in my clothes.'
James smiled a bit, "Thanks for the clothes."
Rance walked over to James and looked in his eyes. James looked right back in Rance's eyes. This is the first time James saw something in Rance's eyes. An image came to James' mind as he saw him kissing Rance and being so happy. James then felt a compelling urge to lean in towards Rance. Rance leaned in more and their lips met. Rance put his hands on James' jawline. James put his hands around Rance's waist. They stopped kissing and leaned back. "Why don't you wait outside for me to get dressed, then I'll tell you everything, from start to finish." Rance explained.
James closed the door and leaned against the wall. 'James what just happened with you in there? It's like I can't help it, there's something about him. And I saw that image in his eyes like I was watching a movie. Don't tell me you're falling for a complete stranger? You hardly know him! Where is your head boy!? But he's a good kisser. He did save my life, I owe him that much.' James was thinking in his mind.
The door opened and James stood up from the wall. Rance looked at James and smiled. James was in a trance as he looked at Rance. Rance had a white shirt with black Dockers. He had his hair slicked back. Rance had whiskers on his face. This just made James start to melt. James caught himself and snapped out of it. "You look very...handsome." James spoke.
"Thank you. You don't look half bad either." Rance smiled and started to walk.
James just followed, "Where are we going?"
"To the family study so I can tell you everything." Rance answered.
Rance then turned to his left and opened the door. James entered the room. The study was covered with shelves filled with books. There was four big windows letting the light in. In front of the second and third window there sat a desk. In the middle of the room there where to couches facing each other with round cherry oak stands on each side of the couches. They went to the couch on the right side. "Please have a seat." Rance motioned James to sit down.
"From what I'm told before I was born, back when I lived in old Britain, a great ancestor of yours saved my great grand dad. My grand dad was grateful for what he had done for him. Your ancestor was a mage of great respect. I've never met him cause he died before I was born. Well, my great grandfather promised your ancestor that our family would watch, and protect your family from them." Rance started to explain.
"Them? Them who?" James asked.
Rance took a big breath in, "The Steveson Family. That isn't all that I need to tell you. The Steveson Family and my family have been at war for the longest time. One day a great mage had enough of our feuding. He cast a spell on both of our families. He said if we insist on fighting like animals then animals we shall be. What I'm trying to say my family line can morph into wolves."
"Very funny, you can turn into wolves." James started to chuckle.
Rance sighed and stood up. James looked at Rance and knew Rance wasn't joking. "No way you can do that, it's like impossible." James added.
"Is it impossible for me to be as old as I am then?" Rance replied.
"Well, you got me there." James felt ashamed that he laughed at Rance.
"Here let me show you." Rance clothes his eyes.
His clothes and skin started to meld together causing fur to grow. Rance then went down on all four. His nose grew longer and fangs showed a little out of his mouth. Rance's ear grew pointed and moved up his head. His tailbone then grew longer forming the tail. His hands clinched together formed the paw. The metamorphosis was complete. James was in total awe of what he just witnessed. He slid off the couch and was kneeling in front of Rance. "I'm sorry I doubted you." James moved his hand towards Rance's wolf form.
Rance's fur was a cream color with the tips of his ear that had gray. To James' touch his fur was soft and smooth. Rance took a few steps back and returned to his human form. "There is more yet to be told. Before your ancestor died, he did a spell on a mirror. What he did was he could look into the past, present and the future. I discovered them mirror when I was sixteen. My great grandfather told me everything about your ancestor, about our family, and about you." Rance turned and looked at James.
"Me? But I wasn't even thought of then." James was shocked.
"Both your ancestor and my grand father looked into their future of their family. Before your ancestor died he cast a spell to seal his powers, and a book inside his bloodline, until your 24th birthday. For what he was thinking of at the moment I couldn't even tell. That's all my grand father told me. But that night I turned 16 and looked in the mirror, I knew I fell in love with you and knew I must meet you and protect you at all costs." Rance finished.
"Well...wow...I mean was this fate or what?" James couldn't think of anymore to say.
Rance chuckled a little. He grabbed James' hands a led him to a wall that had a drape over it. Rance pulled the drape aside and revealed the mirror. "Is this the mirror you where talking about?" James asked.
"Yes it is. The mirror that I first saw you. Do you remember a while back, when in the middle of the night you thought someone was in your room?" Rance asked.
"Yeah, I thought I was going crazy and seeing..." James cut himself short, and remembered what he saw in the mirror.
"Then I thought I saw someone behind me when I was looking in my mirror, and it was you wasn't it?" James asked.
Rance shook his head yes. "But how?" James asked again.
"That night I looked in the mirror and heard a voice, saying it is time to meet you in person. It was you ancestor. He had put a spell on the mirror. He knew it was going to happen." Rance answered back.
"I also remembered it felt like I was kissed to sleep. I felt this warmth that just spread through out my body." James remembered.
"That was also me." Rance admitted.
James turned around and headed back to the couch, "This is all like too much. All this on me, I need time to take it all in."
James sat down putting his left arm on the armrest and held his head up with his hand. Rance followed him and knelt in front of James. "I know this is all shocking news, as it was when I discovered the truth, but it must be more shocking to you, not even having a clue. When your ancestor died my family kept the bond of the promise to guard and watch your family. The Steveson's want that book for some reason, and they found out that it's in you. But what they don't know is that you have powers in you as well, and very powerful I must add." Rance took James' right hand and held it.
"So I'm basically stuck here until my birthday when this book appears and these powers awaken in me?" James asked.
"Yes, but it's only for security reasons." Rance said.
"But what about my family, my friends, my job? I am I allowed freedom and privacy?" James asked.
"Now calm down, it's a situation I knew you where not going to like, but we need to protect you until that time comes." Rance tried to reassure James it was for the best.
James thought for awhile and remembered what happened yesterday. "Okay, I'll stay, if it means being alive and well." James sighed.
Rance looked up and smiled, "Now I want you to meet my great grandfather."
"Your what? He's still alive?" James was now totally shocked.
"Yes he is still very much alive, but very old. He's been waiting along time to meet you Mr. Matthews." Rance escorted him out of the room.
James followed Rance down the hall more until they stopped. James and Rance stood in front of the doors that lead into his great grandfather's room. "Before we go in I'm letting you know that he is blind. So if you think he is looking at you blankly that's why." Rance informed him.
Daren heard a knock on the door. "Enter." He said as loud as his voice could get.
The door opened and Rance walked in, "It's just me, Rance, great grand dad."
A smile came upon Daren's face, "Rance my boy."
A look of wonder came over his face as soon as James walked in. It was as if his sight had returned to his eyes. From what Daren was seeing was from all around James was a heavenly glow being emitted. Then from behind James stepped Ardaous' spirit smiling and bowing his head. Tears started to fill his eyes. Rance looked at James then back at his grand dad and saw his eyes well up with tears." Grand dad is something the matter?" Rance ran to Daren's bedside.
"I'm alright, it's just that I thought I saw a dear old friend." Daren tried not to choke and kept looking at James.
"Grand dad and want to you meet--" Rance was stopped short by Daren.
"Ardaous' descendant, the one from the mirror." Daren finished.
James was caught a little off guard when Daren knew who he was. It provoked a question in his mind, "I thought Rance said he was blind."
"Rance my boy, would you mind waiting outside, while me and your friend can talk?" Daren asked.
"Sure thing." Rance stood up and turned to James, "I'll be waiting outside the doors. He wants to talk with you."
Rance patted James on the shoulder and left the room. After the door was shut James heard Daren call to him, "Come here."
Daren was motioning James to his bedside. James walked over and crouched down to be a t Daren's level. "You're probably aware that this old man is blind, right?" Daren asked.
"Yes sir, I did." James answered back.
"And you're probably wondering how I knew it was you." Daren continued his questions.
James smiled and blushed. "Actually yes I was curious to know." James chuckled as he spoke.
"Well when you walked in the room I thought the angel of death had come to take me at last. But then I saw your ancestor standing right behind you smiling at me. It was like I could see again. You probably think I'm talking nonsense, because I'm and old fool." Daren explained.
James could help but laugh a little, "I'm sorry, but I actually believe you're telling the truth sir."
"Call me Daren. 'Sir' is just to formal." Daren disliked being called sir.
They continued to talk and laugh. "So how old are you?" Daren asked.
"I'm twenty-three, but in about five months I'll be turning twenty-four." James replied.
"Ahh, I see. Well, then did Rance tell you what is going to happen when your birthday nears?" Daren continued asking.
"All he told me is that a power within me that is sealed will awaken as well as a book." James told Daren.
"He didn't leave anything out. I suspect he told you about the mirror and why we protected your family?" Daren asked.
"He did." James replied back.
"Now boy on to a personal and serious question I must ask you." Daren began to speak and started to cough.
James kinda tightened up and knew what was coming. "What are your feelings towards Rance?" Daren asked
James looked down at the floor and bit his bottom lip, "Honestly, so far I like him. I mean I'm attracted to him. He's seems to be nice and gentle. I've never felt like this towards someone before. I have this urge to be at his side, it's unexplainable to me. I've only known him for a short time." James answered.
"Then you know how he feels about you then?" Daren asked another question.
"I know that he loves me." James felt a little uncomfortable saying.
"Yes, and more then you know. He's thrown away his chances to be with others just to be with you." Daren added.
James was taken back a little. 'How sweet, just to do that, he really must love me.'
"I understand your feelings that you have right now. You really don't know him and you really haven't been here that long, but I can sense that you will eventually grow feeling to him. Now what do you plan to do when the book appears and these power resurface?" Daren asked.
Outside the door Rance was pacing back and forth. He put his ear to the door, 'They've been talking for some time now. What could they be talking about?'
Rance then saw the doorknob move and he backed away from the door and went back to his pacing. James poked his head out the door, "You can come back in."
Rance reentered the room, "Rance my grandson, you have a fine man here."
'Tell me something that I don't know.' Rance thought to himself as he smiled.
"He has agreed to stay here until his birthday grand dad." Rance announced.
"Well then. We are glad to have you in our house Mr. Matthew's." Daren welcomed him to the house.
"Please call me James, Mr. Matthew's is so formal." James giggled.
Daren joined James and laughed. Rance was a little lost that he missed something. "Well then James, you have a lot of work ahead of you. After all if they come here and come after you, you need to learn to defend yourself, since the powers are still sealed with in. Speaking of which, how far off is your birthday from now?" Daren asked James.
"About four and a half months." James replied to the question.
"Hopefully you can do all of that training in time. Master Lan Zang is known for being the best in the art of combat." Daren added.
"He arrives here later on today grandfather. I should go and meet him at the airport." Rance said.
"Then you must go." Daren said right back, "It's finally nice to meet you James after all this time."
"It was a pleasure Daren, and thank you for your hospitality." James smiled.
Rance and James left the room. Outside the room Rance looked at James, "I must go like I said, so I'm going to leave you with Vance. He'll take care of you if anything is to happen while I'm gone. You can take a walk around if you would like so you can get familiar with what room is what."
"I might do that, thank you." James saw Vance walking towards them.
"The plane is almost here Rance you should go." Vance announced.
"I was just on my way. James wants to look around a bit, if you want to show him around." Rance turned around and walked the other way.
"Well, where would you like to start?" Vance asked.
