The wind blew through the trees and picked up an 18 year old's hair and let if fall gently as he started trekking up to my new college dorm. SPLAT! A snowball had just come and smacked his duffle bag.
"Oops, I'm sorry. I didn't see you there. Are you ok?"
"Oh, I'm fine. Nothing major." He looked up to see who had asked and looked into startling pure white eyes. He let out a small gasp and was answered with slight chuckles. Looking around, he noticed they weren't alone, in fact, there were about five others there.
"You must be the new kid on the block. Well, welcome to our humble home, Wykester University. Name's Charla. Yours?"
"Uh..Kiersten. Nice to meet ya." He replied dazedly. How they knew that he was coming up here, he wondered.
"You know, sometimes I wonder if you actually do scare away the new ones. I should learn to keep my mouth shut sometimes. Welcome Kiersten, I hope you had a safe journey?" A balding man with pleasant black eyes and a small grin came up behind me taking my bags.
"Umm...the weather was fine until we got close to the area and then it started getting rather bad. The pilot was rather hesitant at landing first but after a little persuasion about running out of gas, he decided it was best to land."
"Oh you must excuse Charla, she's rather fond of snow. But by the way, do you remember who I am?"
"Er..." Kiersten looked hopelessly around the ground, hoping that the answer might just appear but to no avail. After racking his brains for a couple of seconds, he looked sheepishly back at him and said, "Mr. Davidson?"
"Well, his memory's not all that bad is it. I'm impressed. Well come on up and I'll show you around. Afterwards, I can introduce you to everyone. Deal?"
"Ya." He didn't know what else to say. To say that he was slightly panicking would be a major understatement.
"Who's the stud?" came a cheerful, seductive voice floating around the trees.
Kiersten looked to his right and noticed two more had decided to join them, one with sparkling red eyes, the other, deep, light blue eyes. It seemed that almost everyone here had a very different eye color, each breathtaking in its own right.
"His name is Kiersten, Diana. Please control yourself. We don't need another one of our students running away claiming that they are being stalked. Now, if all of you would be so kind as to introduce yourselves, we can lead Kiersten to his room." And with that, one by one, they started coming up to me and shaking my hand.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Charles," said a dark brown-eyed man who looked to be around his early 20s.
"Welcome, and if you have any problems just holler for me, Dave." Another good looking man said, who appeared to be barely 18 with stunning yellow eyes that would have seemed to be spewing excitement had it not been for the contented, boyish grin that adorned his face.
Introductions continued and soon only the person who had called me a stud, and supposedly, the stalker, was left. She grasped my hand tightly but something strange happened. For some extremely odd reason, my hand started heating up, almost to the point where it was getting too hot to touch. Luckily for me, Mr. Davidson gave a small cough and cleared his throat and suddenly, Diana released her grip on me and smiled sheepishly and whispered something that resembled sorry.
"Well then, you all continue being mindless zombies and play snowball fights or whatever you call them these days while I take Kiersten to his room and introduce him to everyone."
Mr. Davidson and Kiersten set off on a trail that slowly wound itself around and past the trees in a northwest direction and they caught our first glimpse of the actual university. Kiersten let out a deep gasp because the view stole his breath away. Wykester University was sheltered in all directions by some defense of nature. To the south was the forest through which they had just arrived. To the east was a dazzling lake that seemed to stretch on forever, to the west were mountains covered with snow and small glaciers at the summit. There were no signs of man made objects except for the university and the roads and gates that were to north most part of the area surrounding Wykester U.
"Come along now, there will be more time for sight-seeing later on. But be warned, no cars are allowed in this area. You will only find trails through the land, the only roads and paved streets you will find are to the north of the university. What do you think about it so far?"
"It's absolutely beautiful, when you called me, I had no idea this is what I was getting into." It was true, he had no idea what to expect about Wykester U. One day about 2 months ago, he had received a phone call from this university telling him that they had a full scholarship waiting for him if he decided to pursue and go on to Wykester U. The only reason Kiersten had finally decided to go was because his family was quite poor at the moment and they couldn't afford the tuition, boarding, and other financial costs. But now, he didn't regret coming here at all. Actually, he was more than curious ever to find out why they were offering him a full scholarship that covered everything. It's not like he was a genius or some star athlete. Sure Kiersten worked out and got decent grades, but nothing that should be worthy of a scholarship to a university quite like this.
"If you follow me, we can go ahead and drop your stuff off in your room and I can give you a tour of the place. You will be on the second floor in the first building. Charla and Dave are also located in the first building so if you need anything, just go and find them. You'll find a map depicting every possible thing in the Wykester Area and who resides in it on a desk in your room. I'll be waiting outside and once your done settling in, just come on out," he finished as he gave Kiersten the keys and moved out of the way of a door labeled Kiersten Trevors. 'Hmm, my own personal room, how wonderful, he thought.'
Kiersten's room was very big, one of those luxury suites with everything a young adult could imagine (Plasma TV, every imaginable game and console, CDs, DVDs, VHSs, you imagine it, its there) including a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, study, and living room. And sure enough, on the desk was all the information on the Wykester Area. There was a balcony that had a view of the lake and forest area where a nice breeze came in so Kiersten decided to just stare out and noticed people all over the area. The weirdest thing that he noticed from up there was that everyone seemed to be friends. You could look everywhere but you wouldn't find anything that shouted "Clique." Everyone seemed to mingle with everyone else. Most of the people seemed to be between 18 and 25 but here and there, you could find some older people who Kiersten assumed to be the teachers and professors. He settled in which only took about 30 minutes assuming that he didn't have much since his family couldn't afford much. As Kiersten stepped out and locked the door, Mr. Davidson asked what he thought about the room and Kiersten told him it was cloud nine and that received a friendly chuckle. With that done, Mr. Davidson took him over to the courtyard where there were about 20 people mostly in pairs and threesomes just chatting and laughing. Mr. Davidson cleared his throat and all eyes turned toward him, smiled, and then settled on Kiersten. Now that was very unsettling. All those eyes with distinct colors, some that couldn't even exist, some looking like the absolutely extreme contacts, and some regular colors here and there.
"Everyone, this is Kiersten. He's joined us just today so let him settle in before you decide to molest him." He finished with a wink that told Kiersten tha he was just joking. What a relief that was.
Kiersten looked at everyone and was met with warm glances and friendly smiles. There was definitely some eye candy here. Just what he needed. But a particular boy, well man, caught Kiersten's eye. He had shimmering silver eyes, a wicked smile, and a body to die for. Since Kiersten was 13, he had always known that he was gay and had accepted it without hesitation. Lucky for him, so had his parents. In fact, they are one the only reason that he was still alive. They were the ones that mended his heart when it was broken many times by heartless bastards who only lusted after his looks. Kiersten wished they could all be damned to Hell. In the same light, this hunk could be a cold-hearted, blood-thirsty, power-seeking moron that everyone else seemed to be in the world. As they say, appearances can be deceiving. Through his life, Kiersten's heart was broken multiple times, and after a while, he just go used to it. Guess you could say he stopped believing in love, he was hurt so often by it, almost despising it. Kiersten learned to keep people at arm's length and not let anyone in, at least for personal issues. Professionally, people knew him quiet well as an intelligent, charming young man. Little did they know what a bitter and hollow inside he had. Yet Kiersten still hoped that someone would be able to fill in that emptiness and turn his bitterness and into ecstasy. But some things are not meant to be. Mr. Davidson and Kiersten continued touring the place and in about an hour, Kiersten had a very brief overview of the whole university. And yet, no one had really talked to him. Mr. Davidson seemed to sense his frustration and agitation and he whispered that Kiersten should just have a little more patience and wait until dinner which would be in about 2 hours. He told Kiersten that he could just wander around or return back to his room to get some shuteye. Kiersten decided to take the latter choice and headed back to his room. He just thought a short nap might refresh him but that short nap turned into a deep slumber.
Someone knocked at his door and Kiersten groggily got up wiping the sleep out of his eyes and opened it and was greeted with shining silver eyes.
"Mr. Davidson asked me to come get you. Dinner's about to start and we didn't want to starve you just yet."
"Oh, sorry I overslept. I'll be right out."
"And by the way, I love your outfit, but the girls might be a little too over-joyed with it. And drool is very sticky and hard to get off. You might want to change."
And that's when Kiersten noticed that he was wearing only boxers. He blushed a shade of red deeper than blood. Kiersten quickly ran in and got some clothes on and hurried out. He muttered sorry but the boy with silver eyes probably didn't comprehend it because it was a little too soft but oh well. Kiersten turned around to find the boy staring at him with a cute grin and the boy asked if Kiersten was ready to go.
"Hayden, are you giving the poor boy a hard time?" An elderly lady made her way towards us with surprising speed, elegantly dressed with a certain grace that spelled beauty.
"No mam, I was just escorting him out to dinner."
"That better be all. Kiersten, dear, if this delinquent gives you any trouble, just tickle him if possible. Or scream my name as loud as possible, Mrs. Srybe.
"Thanks but he wasn't doing anything wrong Mrs."
"Of course not yet, but I would keep a careful eye on him, he has been known to be one of the biggest pranksters we house. But don't worry, he has a good heart. Now get along, we don't want out star late now do we?" she said as she winked at Hayden. 'Star? Who? Better not be me...or there'll be Hell to pay, thought Kiersten.' As we walked toward the main building of the university, a strange sensation occurred. Almost as if someone was stalking them. Kiersten just kept walking along listening to the music that Hayden was playing. As time progressed the sensation became too powerful and Kiersten turned around abruptly. But he could see nothing, yet he knew there was something there. Call it sixth sense or whatever, but it wasn't a good feeling.
"Anything wrong?" Hayden asked with a hint of concern as he took of his earphones.
A sudden moment came to the right of us, and Kiersten let out a yelp. Something grabbed him from behind and took of with him. Kiersten tried to yell but that something was grabbing his neck making it hard to breathe, let alone yell.
The 'something' and Kiersten were running through the forest when it was knocked flat over and his grasp on Kiersten was loosened. That's all the break Kiersten needed and he jumped and ran as fast as he could only to be caught in the arms of Hayden. He whispered it was going to be okay and Kiersetn realized his eyes were glowing silver. 'What the Hell I thought?' He set me down and with one motion he was standing next to the shadowed figure that had kidnapped Kiersten and pounded him with one upper-cut that knocked that creature against a tree. Kiersten let out another blood-curling scream realizing that was no ordinary strength Hayden had because no human can just punch something and send it flying unconsciously and land 50 feet away knocking over the tree it landed on. Mr. Davidson, Mrs. Srybe, and some other people, both teachers and students, came. Mrs. Srybe gave out a gasp and rushed toward Kiersten and took him in a hug. He melted into her hands and felt safe once more. She soothed out his hair and spoke consoling words to him.
"This isn't good. This isn't the way I intended him to find out. And what's worse, these morons are chasing him already. All the more to believe that our fears might be right. Forgive me Kiersten, but you need to take a break." And with that, his black eyes glowed and Kiersten fell unconscious, sagging onto Mrs. Srybe who was still holding him. The last thing he remember was thinking 'God help me.'
